Siglo XX
[BOX]

Belgian band Siglo XX took their name from a Bolivian mine which was a site of social disorder. Their home city of Genk in 1978 was rife with unemployment and all the problems that can arise from that, so the band felt the name said something about where they had come from. Their music dances along the punk/goth/coldwave/darkwave fault line and comparisons to Joy Division are often made. Box contains the bands work from 1982-83 with mini LP, Answer and two EPs Art Of War and Dreams OF Pleasure. Box Set on Onderstroom, limited to 200 copies.

Ssleeping Desiress
Ssleeping Desiress

Here’s the self-titled debut LP of Ssleeping Desiress, aka San Francisco coldwave artist and snake Gabriel Ramos. The album follows a 7” released in 2012, so this has been some time coming. Solid pastiche production rounds off the sinister tunes, with rumbling bass, sharp guitars, tinny drum machines and the gaudy, over-pronounced drama of Ramos’ voice.

Dutch Wave: A History Of Minimal Synth & Wave In The Netherlands

With 80s electronic music from the Low Countries all the rage at the moment, it was only a matter of time before someone started putting out some chronicling compilations. Step forward OnderStroom Records, who’ve really done their research for this one. Many of the eight tracks here were recorded in bedrooms and released in cheap cassette runs back in the day. Bringing them all together in one place allows for a celebration of the bygone Dutch DIY scene.

Fra Lippo Lippi
In Silence

Fra Lippo Lippi. Now there’s a name from the past. The gloomy Norwegians were severely in debt to Joy Division and the Cure producing a brand of edgy and atmospheric post punk that probably soundtracked 1981 pretty nicely indeed. Interesting fact: guitarist Rune Kristoffersen went on to run experimental Norwegian label Rune Grammofon.
