Erg Herbe

NYC school minimalism meets New Age ambient on the latest Shelter Press offering from Brooklyn artist JAB aka John Also Bennett. The name JAB may well be familiar from the CV & JAB ‘Thoughts Of A Dot As It Travels A Surface’ record, also released by this fine label. Bennett employs various types of flutes and synthesis techniques as well as just intonation to create a blissful work or tranquil and often delightful avant-ambient.

Eli Keszler

We’ve been fans of Eli Keszler’s output since he started sending us his self-released albums on his own R.E.L Records imprint well over a decade ago. He’s since released some mighty fine albums for PAN, ESP-Disk, NNA Tapes and now lands on Shelter Press with a real peach of an album in ‘Stadium’. The restless pulse and chaos of his home city New York runs through the rhizome like rhythms of this album and there’s a wonderful timeless blue jazz quality that at times could almost be a lost film noir soundtrack, and at others seems to exist in a time and space all its own. A real cracker that constantly rewards over repeated late night listens.

Félicia Atkinson
The Flower And The Vessel

Félicia Atkinson returns to Shelter Press (Black Zone Magick Chant, Eli Keszler) with another set of fourth-world electronics and nocturnal musique concrete. Some of the tracks on The Flower And The Vessel are sweet hazes of keys, whispered vocals and music-box twinkles; others, like ‘You Have To Have Eyes’, are unsettling layered drones that bring to mind Jenny Hval or The Bad Seeds at their most abstract. Stephen O’Malley contributes to The Flower And The Vessel’s 19-minute-long closer ‘Des Pierres’

Struggle Artist

Justin C. Meyers, or just Meyers, here documents his lived experience of late capitalism through the medium of electronic sound, combining beautiful textures with an air of melancholy and tricksy sequencing moves. Struggle Artist is an intriguing listen, always walking the knife edge of pleasure and darkness. LP release on Shelter Press.

Black Zone Magick Chant
Voyage Sacrifice

Black Zone Magick Chant perhaps predictably, are interested in the psychedelic. On Voyage Sacrifice, they let their frenetic drones seep into every nook and cranny of your consciousness. Always moving, always changing, this is music one can very easily disappear into without being heard from again. On Shelter Press.
