Skinshape
Umoja

Will Dorey’s fifth Skinshape album dives completely into the pool of African musical inspiration that he’d been only drawing upon until now. Featuring guest musicians such as Malcolm Catto, Idd Aziz and Modou Touré, Umoja is a joyous and accessible take on the rhythms and musical styles that the continent has produced.

Skinshape
Life & Love

Skinshape is the project of one William Dorey. On Life & Love, his third album, the Brit makes gloriously lo-fi sounding funk and soul. Somehow finds the mid points between the likes of Jungle and Khruangbin, in that Dorey manages to be both silky smooth and somewhat experimental and playful. Good at reverb too.

Skinshape
Oracolo

Psychedelic bedroom pop from Palace’s bassist Skinshape. On Oracolo Will Dorey takes over all the instrumental duties and produces a joyous, dense and groove-heavy vinyl LP and CD. Borrowing influences from hip-hop, soul and funk, but spun through his unique one-man band aesthetic, Dorey is one to watch.

An Explore
1

The functionally titled 1 from duo An Explore brings together two incredibly talented musicians from the British avant-garde scene - Rob Macdonald (founder of the Scratch nightclub, and part of Speeka, Jumbonics and Gum Drop) and Lucy Wilkins (touring and recording violinist). This thoughtful EP is available on both CD and 10” vinyl.

DJ Yoda
Home Cooking

DJ Yoda, an artist much beloved of the summer festival circuit, here develops his craft beyond funky beatmaking, bringing in live instrumental artists to complement his samples and tasty turntablism. Songs are the key here, with musicians like Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia and Eva Lazarus helping Yoda craft a real jazz and soul mood. Home Cooking is released by Lewis Recordings.

Skinshape
Filoxiny

Over the past few years Skinshape mastermind Will Dorey has established himself as a worthy new addition to the lineage of British oddball artists. His Skinshape project sees Dorey fusing influences from trip-hop, reggae, downtempo electronica, psychedelic pop and chamber pop to cerebrally beautiful effect. He keeps up the good work with his fourth Skinshape LP Filoxiny. Mr. Scruff is an obvious comparison.
