The Lovely Eggs
Big Sea

The press release might be over egging the pudding to suggest that the country is in the grip of Egg Mania but it has to be said that the Lovely Eggs are rather popular at the moment. Much of this has to do with their recent 'This Is Eggland' album from which the main track here is taken. But Britain's most indie-pop parents also give you two unreleased tracks for your hard earned cash.

The Lovely Eggs
Wiggy Giggy

Wiggy Giggy is the first single to be taken from This Is Eggland, the forthcoming album by Lancaster’s very own DIY psych-punk duo The Lovely Eggs. Wiggy Giggy was inspired by a children’s book the married couple read to their son that philosophised on the idea that no matter where you go, your home is the best place for you. This time The Lovely Eggs turned to super-producer Dave Fridmann (y’know, the Flaming Lips guy) to shape their sound.

The Lovely Eggs
This Is Eggland

This Is Eggland, the new album from The Lovely Eggs sees the psych-punks working with a producer for the very first time, somewhat eschewing their DIY ethos. They haven’t chosen just any old producer either, they’ve gone for the man who remodeled the sound of The Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, Dave Fridmann. The title is a pun on This Is England, the Shane Meadows film, and a comment on the current state of Britain. Thematically, the duo preach how living a non-conventional, non-conformist lifestyle is the best way to be.

The Lovely Eggs
This Is Our Nowhere

The Lovely Eggs have perfected the DIY punk aesthetic over the course of a clutch of singles, two EPs and three albums. Their new album, This is Our Nowhere, consolidates their position of not-giving-a-shit punk attitude whilst adding a touch of psychedelic nonsense. There will be a special limited edition black and white vinyl version released for Record Store Day 2015, which precedes the official release of the album.

The Lovely Eggs
I Shouldn’t Have Said That

I Shouldn’t Have Said That is the new single from Lancaster’s The Lovely Eggs. This time, their usual DIY aesthetic has made way for a more controlled approach, helmed by superstar producer Dave Fridmann of Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips production fame. The result is heavier than previous work, with a nod to the motorik magnificence of krautrock heroes Neu! However, loyal fans needn’t worry too much, there’s still the lyrics, filled with repentant anger and spat out with Holly’s usual punk rock perspective. 7" pressed on black and white vinyl.

The Lovely Eggs
Drug Braggin

Won't anyone think of the children? The Lovely Eggs are Lancaster's most psych rock married couple. Former Angelica front lady Holly Ross sings whilst hubby David Blackwell plays drums and creosotes the fence. They play simple catchy Marc Riley-friendly punk pop that's hard to get out of your head once it's in and this 7" is no different. A fine blast of gritty pop aiming a swipe at annoying drug people.

The Lovely Eggs
Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)

The Lovely Eggs are happily expressing their homeland of Lancashire through the medium of messy punk rock blare. Goofin’ Around (In Lancashire) is another pair of pub-surrealist party numbers. And get this: in keeping with a deep love of eggs, the band have pressed the single to fried-egg imitating 7” vinyl! Beautiful. Out on their own Egg Records.
