Nikki Sudden
The Bible Belt

'The Bible Belt' was the second solo album by Swell Maps co-founder Nikki Sudden. It was originally released in 1983 and features Mike Scott and Anthony Thistlethwaite, artists who went on to form The Waterboys later the same year. The standout track here is arguably 'Chelsea Embankment' which features vocals by Max Edie, who also went on to sing with The Waterboys. One for fans of - yep - The Waterboys.

Epic Soundtracks
Film Soundtracks

Epic Soundtracks is Kevin Godfrey, who in turn was one of two brothers at the core of post-punkers Swell Maps. Film Soundtracks is some of his solo material, which tends to be more intimate than his punky drumming work. Spend some time with it thanks to Troubadour, who are releasing Film Soundtracks in CD and LP editions.

Nikki Sudden
Fred Beethoven

Swell Maps' Nikki Sudden began releasing solo output after his band broke up in the 1980s, and 'Fred Beethoven' is a newly unearthed record of material through his career. It contains two covers of Chuck Berry's rockabilly standard, "Johnny B. Goode", as well as new versions of song from Sudden's debut solo record, 'Forest Fire'. 'Fred Beethoven' shows off Sudden's affection for the traditions of rock music and early punk, from T. Rex to the New York Dolls.  Tracks: CD: Johnny B.
