Second Direction
Four Corners & Steps Ahead

Great archival pressing from German jazz label Sonorama (Helmut Brandt Orchestra, Inge Brandenburg) here. Despite only releasing one record until now, Second Direction are considered by tastemakers to be one of the premier German jazz fusion acts of the 1970s. 1976’s Four Corners is an LP of extremely well-healed soul-jazz helmed by group leader/arranger/sax and flute player Fritz Münzer. Here that album comes backed with six hitherto-unreleased takes that were destined to turn up on a second LP (Steps Ahead) that never materialised.

Mombasa
African Rhythms & Blues

Pulsating afro funk on this much sought after album from American trombonist Lou Blackburn. Fuelled by an extended stay in Africa, Blackburn compiled a band to propel forward his fusion of West Coast and ethno jazz. Grooves like a minimalist Fela. African Rhythms & Blues by Mombasa is out on vinyl LP from Sonorama.
