MSTRKRFT return after five years away. Made up of Jesse F. Keeler from Death from Above 1979 and producer Al-P (who produced You're a Woman, I'm a Machine). Together the two make anolog synth based electronic dance music with a punk tinge. Groovey and closer to the MGMT end of the spectrum, imagine DFA but taken from the opposite angle.
Lindi Ortega is a Canadian singer who has migrated to Nashville, where the soul is. The location has done wonders for her, and Faded Gloryville shows the success of melding her country styles with soul and americana. Recorded by a series of pros in various Nashville studios, released by the Last Gang label.
Moon King are boy/girl duo from Toronto. Songwriter Daniel Benjamin and singer/guitarist Maddy Wilde’s new album, Secret Life charts their progression from being an insular and intimate project to a cracking live band. Secret Life takes it’s musical cues from '80s pop-rock to create something fresh for 2015. The album was recorded at a cottage in Northern Ontario with a cast of Toronto’s music scenesters.
Brighton-based, uber-cool 5 piece Dark Horses return with their follow-up to the critically creamed-over 'Black Music'. After a whirlwind 18 months, seeing them catapulted firmly into the stratosphere with handpicked top-notch support slots (Beck, Kasabian, Sigur Ross) and performances at the Olympic Park and the Royal Albert Hall, their second album is described as 'Siouxie and the Banshees meets T-Rex'. But much more hipster, of course, with synths. Out on vinyl LP on Last Gang records.
