Alexandra Streliski’s album Pianoscope was initially released in 2010, so many neoclassical albums ago, and it is quite right and deserving that it should be introduced to the record buying public again now. Luscious arpeggios and melancholy melodies abound on this set, which is sure to accompany your next session of staring moodily out of a window perfectly. Reissued by Secret City.
This is a re-issue of the debut breakthrough album from the Canadian singer songwriter who has hit pay dirt in recent years with his songs placed all over the telly on such shows as Orange is the New Black, The Blacklist and the IKEA advert. His brand of simple, evocative confessionals are utterly perfect for such ventures.

Good Advice is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer/songwriter Basia Bulat. She recorded the album with the production and instrumental assistance of Jim James from My Morning Jacket. His influence is clear to see. Bulat is usually known for playing an autoharp, but here a more traditional guitar, bass, drums and keyboard set up is used. Jim James says that she is a unique talent.
Basia Bulat is currently readying her 2016 lbum full-length album Good Advice, and here is a sneak preview of what we can expect. Infamous is a powerful number, Bulat’s strong voice supported by rock instrumentation. Co-produced with Jim James of My Morning Jacket, this single is pressed to white 7” vinyl and released on Secret City.
Half Swedish, half Canadian husband and wife duo Thus Owls tested themselves by recording their new mini-album Black Matter in various places including at home and in spaces owned by friends. This enabled them to change their approach and experience new creative collaborations. Liam O’Neill from Suuns and Stefan Schneider from Bell Orchestre and Luyas added their drumming chops whilst Daniel Bjarnason’s confident string arrangements bring a new dimension. The sounds within are also mirrored in the cover art by Karl Lemieux who has also done the same for Godspeed! You Black Emperor in tha past.
The Barr Brothers make fluid folk music with intricate layers of guitar, piano and harp that crease into each-other with a total understanding for the genre's hallmarks, both technically and emotively. 'Sleeping Operator' is rooted in Western folk traditions, but also shows an interest in the West of Africa, with mesmerising rhythms that stay and saunter among songs that are otherwise soft and comforting. Don't worry: there's some twang, too.
