Hugo Massein
Remnants / London Underground 2014 - 16

Six tracks Hugo Massein produced back in 2014-2016, during the peak years of the deep tech scene in London. Massein has been a key player in the scene and Remnants / London Underground now offers us the opportunity to hear some of his most creative and varied work in the genre. Released on Keysound Recordings.

Otik
Top Ten EP

After a run of releases on labels including Dext Recordings and Brotherhood Sound System, young talent Otik moves to the next level and drops via Keysound (Wen, Okzharp & Samrai). The tunes that make up Top Ten are a fresh mix of sounds. While grounded in the soundsystem techno style of labels like Timedance and 3024, Otik isn’t afraid to incorporate elements of UK Funky and dub-techno into his work. It makes for a pleasing mix.

Blackdown
Those Moments

Longtime champion of London-centric soundsystem music from dubstep to garage and grime, Blackdown makes a break from previous album bouts with regular cohort Dusk to present a more personal statement that deals in what the artist describes as a “weightless” LP. Trim, Dusk and Farrah Jarral all feature.

Kellen 303
WHB EP

EP on Keysound Recordings from Brooklyn-based newcomer Kellen 303. Five tracks who draw from the frenetic dance traditions of footwork and vogue music, set against the dark aesthetic of goth and industrial. Any producer who can successfully work in the same space as Venus X is worth a spin or two.

Lamont (featuring Grim Sickers & Nico Lindsay)
Missed Calls EP

Influential dubstep/bass music/whatever-you-call-it label, Keysound Recordings release the debut EP from Lamont. On the Missed Calls EP the producer collaborates with hotly tipped MCs Nico Lindsay and Grim Sickers for a surreal slice of grime and house influenced electronica. The eerie and angry productions on this vinyl 12” pay homage, but still manage to not sound much like either genre.

Blackdown
Rollage vol.3: C-troit EP

Martin Clark AKA Blackdown (of Dusk + Blackdown) has focusing on his keysound label, leaving his solo productions relatively quiet. Resurfacing with this mini series called Rollage he sticks strickly to 130bpm and delves into his bass heavy box of sounds that float between dubstep roots and deep techno.

Lyeform
Things Betwixt EP

Lyeform rolls out from the middle of the UK continuum with a fresh and adventurous style that combines sweet segments of sound design from influences as broad as jungle, Vangelis-esque soundtrack work, and modern grime. Consequently, the Things Betwixt EP bumps and fizzes with real creative power. Tasty 12” on Keysound Recordings.

Blackdown
Rollage Vol.2: Keysound Sessions Anthem

This new Blackdown material is the result of a tightly constrained process: all four tracks have been built up around a piece of audio grabbed by a phone in the middle of a Keysound club night. From that inauspicious sound grain, a bunch of strong bangers has sprung, all rolling forth at 130bpm. Rollage Vol. 2: Keysound Sessions Anthem is a 12” out on Keysound.

Atlas
Solitude EP

Brighton resident Atlas presents his debut EP to the world! This may be the first actual release for the young producer, but title track Solitude may well sound familiar, having been a cornerstone of Keysound label runners Dusk and Blackdown for the last year and a half. Serious sprightly dub-weighted dancefloor killers right here.

OKZharp and Samrai
Gated EP

Dusk and Blackdown’s always reliable Keysound Recordings imprint release a genre-switching slice of afrobeats and bass experimentalism. The Gated EP from OKZharp and Samrai on vinyl 12” moves between garage rhythms, glorious synths and dense melodies. It doesn’t sound like the final product should be so effective on the dancefloor, but somehow it is.

Truce
Be There / Uhh

Dusk and Blackdown’s Keysound Recordings continue their incredible run with this vinyl 12” from Truce. The hotly-tipped East London producer makes a sharp, minimal and of-the-moment tech house where sultry vocals are cut with garage basslines and precise drum programming. You’ll be hearing Be There/Uhh everywhere soon enough.

LV & Josh Idehen
Islands

Production trio and lovers of electronic LV have once more teamed up with singer Joshua Idehen for their new record, 'Islands', after successfully using his voice as a fractured imprint on their highly conceptual debut record, 'Routes'. This time, though, there's a sense that the vocals are at the forefront, rather than used in microscopic bursts -- it's a lyrical work in a different way, with a narrative that holds together more fluidly.

Logos
Cold Mission

Available on CD and clear vinyl LP, the debut album from UK grime up-and-comer Logos is already being spoken of as a modern electronic classic. Spacious and atmospheric, its tracks evoke images of vast spaceship chambers rather than desolate inner cityscapes, yet its roots are demonstrated via the cunning reconfiguration and deconstruction of familiar grime elements -- jabbing beats, sweeping synths and videogame melodies. "Cold Mission" is therefore a striking lamination of grime’s past, present and future.
