Magazine Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Cologne Tape is a collective centred around the awesome rhythm-talents of John Stanier (Battles), Alex Willner (The Field), Mario Katz and numerous others. Welt was recorded, naturally enough, in Cologne, with synths and drums and piano and vibraphone and much more. Deep studio explorations from a remarkable ensemble. Released by Magazine.

ZON is an outfit made up of Phillip Tielsch and Mario Katz (of von Spar and Cologne Tape respectively), plus the mighty power of Battles’ drummer John Stanier. Together they get into some pretty heavy instrumental metal areas: properly tough stuff. And on the B-side lies a drone ambient remix by Crato. 180g LP on the Magazine label.
Fresh new EP follow up to Jens-Uwe Beyer’s very recent full-length The Emissary. On Amor Dark Pink Tencel Satin Suit (each track is named after some excellently tailored clothing) he collaborates with Barnt and John Stanier of Battles(!) for some smooth-production atmospheric techno. 12” on Magazine.
It’s Barnt. That’s what my redneck uncle said, after his chicken coop burnt down. And, in a magical sense, Tale of Us & Recondite’s remix of Cherry Red has a scorched sense to it. The track is rough and dark, yet emanates fertility. And on the B-side is Jens-Uwe Beyer’s effort, which distills the thriving build-up to brew a tense piece of swell techno.
What’s a guy from the 70s doing in Cologne? Reinventing himself, always against the grains of his time. On his newest release, Barnt does not stray from this tried and tested path, and in spite of the nonsensical (or maybe I "just don’t get it") track titles delivers a coherent and refreshing album.
