Quinarian
Off Land

Some very lush stuff indeed from Tim Dwyer aka Off Land right here. Ambient washes pitched firmly at the night sky in unapologetically decadent style. Like Tangerine Dream on new gear. Brought to you on Compact Disc so you don’t have to even get up to flip the thing over. From Psychonavigation records.

David Harrow
On Forever Gone

I’d never heard of David Harrow before. I don’t know if I should have or not either. The press release says he’s been getting into all the right music scenes at all the right times; he’s been in post-punk, disco, rave, drum’n’bass, he’s got the lot. So what would an album from someone so heavily involved in such punchy, cutting-edge music sound like? Well the album teaser for On Forever Gone seems very sedate. Pulsating, gurgling synths which bubble away threatening to boil over into mayhem but never do, just staying at that right equilibrium of the quiet before the storm.

Mick Chillage
Tales from the Igloo Re-Told

Laid back electronica man Mick Chillage has slowly been gaining respect from the underground/electronic community in recent years. Tales from the Igloo Re-Told features a load of remixes of tracks from his debut which could see him reach an even wider audience. It's full of glacial new agey synths, relaxed vibes and stuttering beats. Scanner, David Morley, Dialog are just some of the names on show. Dream-like electronics which could appeal to fans of Boards of Canada, Plaid and those 70's kosmische twiddlers.

Andrea Carri
Chronos

Melancholic and emotional piano music by Italian Composer Andrea Carri. Strange, haunting, surreal and highly atmospheric, 'Chronos' is his fourth studio album. It features violin, cello and electric guitar as well as synths and soundscapes. The ultimate in highbrow chill-out. Available on cd from Psychonavigation.

Johnny Yesterday
Breathe In, Breathe Out

Johnny Yesterday makes bombastic electronic music that kind of sounds like if you converted IDM into EDM; lush, intricate soundscapes that Boards of Canada would craft are mixed with the loudness and emotive prevalence of true club music. 'Breathe Out, Breathe In' is Yesterday's debut record, following on from an EP earlier this year called 'Allie, Don't Let Me Disappear'. He cites horror movies as his key inspiration, though the record sounds plenty bright thanks to its synthwork.

Oliver Lieb
Inside Voices

Frankfurt-based producer and DJ Oliver Lieb has been active in electronic music since the 1980s, producing music for huge names like Yello, Utah Saints, Faithless and Moby. In the early 90s he released two well-received ambient records ('Constellation' and 'Music To Films w/ Dr. Atmo), and 'Inside Voices' completes his trilogy.

Sense
Still Life

Sense follow up their gruelling record The Dream with more of the same morose ambient. Still Life shimmers with overwhelming ferocity while harbouring chilling, painstakingly brief vocal samples and icy textures that rush over one another like ceaseless waves of the sea. Still Life is one of those records that sounds gentle but feels harsh.

Galati
Mother

Good old uncle Freud would be proud. With an album called Mother that, according to composer Galati, consists of a search for his own self, what would he say? Would he comment on the scary noises that swell and crash like waves, only to slowly recede again? Or would he take his cigar from his mouth, eye it with longing eyes, and say that sometimes, a cigar is only a cigar?

Bruno Bavota
The Secret of the Sea

Italian composer and neo-classical artist Bruno Bavota continues to make gorgeous minimal pieces for piano on The Secret of the Sea, intertwining his instrument of choice with guitars that echo into an expanse. For evocative nights where you want the room to shake and wish you were out in the waves.

Arche
First Cause

Exploring the experience with Arche. First Cause is the debut from this avant-garde project. It's definitely a grower, in terms of ideas, concepts and intensity. Drones up drones, with other noises and weirdness make up the bulk of this release. What is that, is it a voice? Perhaps I imagined it? It's blair-witch in your ear holes. Out on CD from Psychonavigation.

Lorenzo Montana
Leema Hactus

If you’ve always wished Tycho sounded just a little bit more like Autechre, we’ve got one hell of a treat for you. Right in between gentle harmonics and unexpected sonal threats, Lorenzo Montana knows how to please all you fans of blissful IDM. Leema Hactus is his second full length and it displays both ambition and prowess.
