Timeline
The Conscious Dream EP

Techjazz is the newest thing, that is to say, jazz and techno, together. And they match well too, with a solid 4/4 beat at the foundation and the little bleeps from saxophones, trumpets and synths at the top. Timeline’s new EP expands on a good theme, and The Conscious Dream is an experimentation between altered mind states and crossing genres.

Underground Resistance
Hardlife

A 12” from Underground Resistance: what more do we need to say? This 2001 cut is typical of the legendary Detroit collective, with a soulful vocal shimmying over the top of the high-energy house groove. Original track on the A-side, an Aaron Carl remix on the flip. Reissued on the Resistance’s own label.

Underground Resistance
Inspiration / Transition

Oh ye! Squelching, shimmering, beeping, bopping - it’s bleedin’ good fun from Underground Resistance, who here have two belting great Detroit Techno tracks, Inspiration/Transition. Bound to make any dancefloor a happy one, it’s full of dreamy synths, a great melody and a constant beat to soundtrack your best parties. 12” vinyl.

Nomadico
Yaxteq

Here are four slabs of pumping squelshy techno. You can literally feel the sweat dripping off the walls in some dingy underground club as it plays. Full of wierdly modulating synths and hard uncompromising beats the bass at times brings forth melody but on the whole its dark and draughty with some playful synth work providing some colour to the monochrome technoid bounce.

Underground Resistance
Ambush Redux

Underground Resistance releases 'Ambush Redux' and other stories: in total, four techno tunes get sequenced together in this collection of reworks from the label's own DJ Skurge, another lover and cultivator of that thing called Detroit techno. Joined together here are "Ambush", Mad Mike's old and time-told "Silicon Saigon" as well as "Burning Spear" and "Scalper"

Underground Resistance
The Turning Point

The Unknown Soldier
Gone But Not Forgotten EP

These two tracks come as a 12" on Underground Resistance, so the form is pretty familiar: mysterious Detroit-influenced techno. These cuts sound like they've been produced underwater, the synths and effects given an oddly lo-fi effect while still sounding clean and pronounced. The Unknown Soldier looks like some sort of old time country artist at first take of the artwork, and in my opinion, the effect isn't far off: on the first track here, the acidic bass and beats feel like they've been recorded in one of Woody Guthrie's buckets.

Nomadico
Ganas EP

'Ganas' is an EP made by Nomadico, Detroit techno extraordinaire, although it's more than just a thrown off EP by a prominent electronic artist: 'Gana' is a tribute to the memory of Jaime Escalante, a teacher in Los Angeles who specifically helped overlooked Latino students. As such, you can treat the 'Ganas' EP like a sort of motivational techno, attempting to inspire neglected people the way Escalante did. A lovely little concept for some surprisingly upbeat music.
