Sans Soleil

Julio Francisco Ramos, the Connecticut-based rapper better known as Ceschi, reveals the second part of his planned trilogy of records that’ll see him bow out of his career. Having won acclaim for Sad, Fat Luck earlier this year, Sans Soleil is another playful and political suite of switched-on hip-hop.

Sad, Fat Luck

Purveyor of hip hop tinged with indie and singer-songwriter elements Ceschi Ramos sallies forth an emotional ride through subjects such as lost friends, ageing, breakups and Deplorable Donald’s substantial contributions to the current state of the US. Sammus and Astronautalis feature, to say nothing of many contributing musicians.

Another round of rhyme-spittin’ polemics from Anticon co-founder Sole. Focused on the lyrical theme of anarchism, this one for Fake Four Inc is a bit unusual as it draws in a gritty, self-produced No Wave environment for the MC’s disgruntled lines. Recorded half in central Denver, half in the Maine hinterlands.

David Cohn’s bizarre and comedic hip-hop and indie mashup moniker Serengeti’s breakthrough album from 2006, Dennehy is made available on vinyl for the first time, and it includes a bonus track called Amateur Surgeon and four further tracks that made up an unreleased EP called Beautyman. Think somewhere between Beck and Buck 65.
