The Raincoats
The Raincoats (40th Anniversary Edition)

Luckily for record labels everywhere, a lot of good music was released in 1979 so we have plenty of 40th Anniversary re-issues to look forward to this year. The latest is the debut LP from the Raincoats, their spindly surprisingly tuneful art-rock influenced generations of future legends such as Kurt Cobain and Kim Gordon and is now available on marble vinyl, re-mastered from the original tapes with limited edition prints from founding members Gina Birch and Ana Da Silva.

The Raincoats
Odyshape

Odyshape was the second LP from post-punk legends the Raincoats and it really is odd shaped music they made. It's the sound of music plunging headlong into previous unseen areas and at times can be a challenging listen but with moments of pure inspiration such as opener Shouting Out Loud. It was notable for featuring a host of drummers following on from a Spinal Tap-esque drummer crisis. When those drummers were of the calibre of the likes of Robert Wyatt and Charles Hayward then it seems to have been a blessing. Marble vinyl edition remastered from the original tapes.

The Raincoats
The Raincoats

Spindly post-punk heaven here from The Raincoats. The album was both important for its DIY spirit but also for the fact that it was made by four women in the then male dominated music industry. The album fell under the radar until Kurt Cobain mentioned it as one of his favourite records and since then has taken on legendary status and influenced scores of musicians. Re-issued from original sources for this luxury revamp that no home should be without.
