Portico Quartet

The salubrious sounds of Portico Quartet are presented in two different ways here. LP 1 is a live recording focussing on recent material performed in the larger venues to which the band now frequent. LP 2 expands on a different aspect of their sound by virtue of a series of remixes, including takes from Luke Abbott and Sbtrkt. Double wax from Real World Records.

The Breath
Let The Cards Fall

The second LP from The Breath shows face on Real World (Peter Gabriel, Loney Dear). As with previous album Carry Your Kin, the pair of Rioghnach Connolly (Afro Celt Sound System) and Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra) have constructed a selection of sweet neo-folk songs centred around showcasing Connolly’s fabulously expressive voice. Fans of Laura Marling and Cate Le Bon should turn their attentions this way.

Loney Dear
Loney Dear

Here on his seventh album he delves further into his enigmatic elegant musical world however we are promised a rebirth with this new albums and the first fruits of something new. What could it be? Maybe we should all listen and find out.

Les Amazones D'Afrique
République Amazone

The resulting album, République Amazone is a strong statement and an amazingly rich listen. Released on Real World.

John Metcalfe
The Appearance of Colour

Expansive electro-acoustic compositions from composer John Metcalfe. Having written string arrangements for the likes of Morrisey and The Pretenders, The Appearance Of Colour showcases an alternate side to his style. With a polyrhythmic bent leaning towards Reich and Glass, this involving album brings to mind the solo work of Mark McGuire. Out on CD and vinyl LP from Real World.
