Writhing Squares
In The Void Above

The messed-up minds behind Purling Hiss and Ecstatic Vision conjoin together as Writhing Squares for spacey psych-drone-songs. In The Void Above is their latest, and it is grounded in thickly-fuzzed basslines, giving definition to the reeds-and-electronics chaos going on overhead. Vinyl release on the legendary Siltbreeze label.

TR
Manifesto Rumoratorio

Mmmmm, delicious sound-mess from the sizzling fingers of Pietro La Rocca, aka TR. He sings, plays guitar, and fiddles about with a box-full of tapes and toys and the like, improvising himself into all sorts of beautiful foolish corners. Manifesto Rumoratorio is released by the fabulous experimental Siltbreeze label.

Small World Experience
Shelf-Life

Wait long enough and every great Antipodean record will get a re-issue. I worshipped this album for a small period back in 1994. It contains messy, shambling, clattery pop that has something of the early Go Betweens but is a much tougher proposition. Strange thing is, a lot of records have since sounded like it including this years Surface to Air Missive. Hopefully this vinyl re-issue will get it into a few more ears.

Rosali
Out Of Love

Philadelphia’s Rosali writes and plays songs that seem to emerge from some other place: both her voice and her guitars carry a slightly otherworldly sense of psychedelia. Out Of Love is her impressive debut full-length, released by the legendary Siltbreeze imprint: they know a thing or two about special strange music.

Sarah Mary Chadwick
9 Classic Tracks

On her sophomore full length, Sarah Mary Chadwick sounds intense, foreboding, and distant. Her haunting vocals are supported by low, lush orchestrations that carry her songs to make them classics. Or at least, that’s what the title 9 Classic Tracks suggests, and we wouldn’t dare to differ. On a side note: wow, that cover art, uhm. Intense.

Dan Melchior
The Souls Of Birds And Mice

Dan Melchior's newest record is comprised of two psychedelic compositions that hope to capture the process of making music as much as the fruits of that process; on 'The Souls of Birds and Mice' it's important that you can hear Melchior's work coming together. As always, though, his work is a blast.

Letha Rodman-Melchoir
Shimmering Ghost

Sadly a posthumous release after her death in September 2014, Shimmering Ghost continues much along the same path of creepy, atmospheric sound crafted by Letha Rodman-Melchoir on her previous lp, Handbook For Mortals. Songs constantly build and decline, leaving form and convention behind to create something enthralling and engaging.

People Skills
Tricephalic Head

People Skills bring forth their first full-length, 'Tricephalic Head', with the super-freaky artwork to boot! Self-described "lo-fi loner pop", this record offers up morose but chilled out songs from the mind of bandleader Jesse De. It perhaps sounds like Vic Chesnutt and Stephin Merritt hanging out together, when you put it that way, but De cites musique concrete pioneer Graham Lambkin as a key influence. Loose and heartfelt songs with a slightly out of focus vibe.

Amanda X
Amnesia

Hailing from the Kensington area of Philadelphia (home to infamous gangs such as the Yo’s, Twerks and Fuzzies), Amanda X imperviously sallys forth, creating an oasis of bedroom pop and post-punk among a landscape of toxic speed, eroded enamel and chattering human skin suits. Fused together, this set of songs form the whole of Amnesia their debut LP. Amanda X have toured or shared the stage with such bands as Parquet Courts, Protomartyr, Tyvek, Cheater Slicks, Dum Dum Girls, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, Purling Hiss and Counter Intuits. The band vows to keep an active live presence for the remainder of 2014 and beyond. In the meantime, keep Amnesia on that turntable. It’s already the album of the summer and the pool ain’t even open yet. Dang! How’d they do that? Amanda X... they’re just that good.
