Chelsea Wolfe
Live At Roadburn 2012

In 2012, the good people of the Netherlands’ Roadburn festival were treated to a set from dark and heavy electric-folkster Chelsea Wolfe. The performance was strong enough to merit a full blown release, and so the Burning World label have pressed up Live At Roadburn 2012 onto red vinyl, in a limited edition. Killer.

Various
John Barleycorn Reborn: Dark Britannica

Metal/doom/neofolk connoisseurs Burning World Records have waxed up this 2CD compilation from 2007 for the discerning vinyl heads. Originally curated for Cold Spring by Mark Coyle, the 4LP box set reissue contains a booklet elaborating on the theme and concepts of the project. That is, the grimmer and seedier side of Britain’s folklore, rendered in neofolk by 33 various artists (Sol Invictus, The Owl Service, Clive Powell et al). Step aside, Richard Dawson!

Dead Neanderthals
Womb Of God

Time for another fearsome blast from Dead Neanderthals, the mercilessly intense trio who play noise-rock by way of two saxophones and a drumkit. They’ve had a really busy year, and they round it out with Womb Of God, their fourth (!) full-length album of 2017. Unhinged howls, deep-reaching baritone sax blasts, and pounding rhythms. On Burning World Records.

Slomatics
A Hocht

Reissue of the third album from the justly acclaimed Belfast sludge/doom band, originally released in 2012. It boasts a mighty kraken on the cover and eight tracks (as the title suggests, if you know your Gaeilge). Slomatics are eyebrow-raisingly heavy despite eschewing a bassist, and display more idiosyncracy and character than most downtuners. If you’re into Melvins, High On Fire, Sleep, Conan, Yob and similar, and have missed this, rectify that sorry situation!

Drunk In Hell
Drunk In Hell

It was starting to feel like the filthmongering Drunk In Hell would never release an album but here we go. A doom metal band (but only for lack of better terminology) high on hate and skronk, they play their own bunch of broken parts to assemble euphoric half-stumbles of heavy. Much excitement.

Wolf Blood
Wolf Blood

Menacing sludgy metal from Minneapolis 4-piece Wolf Blood. The initial pressing of their debut album (on cassette) sold out in just a few days, apparently. This vinyl release comes ahead of an extensive US tour and it's brutal, loud, sinister and feral. If you play it backwards you can just make out the voice of Satan himself reciting the Lord's Prayer in Transylvainian. Probably. On Burning World Records.

Slomatics
Estron

Slomatics are a heavy bunch from Northern Ireland who are all about crushing, riff-driven psychedelic stoner rock. It’s a classic formula of course, but Slomatics have had thirteen years to hone their take on it to a blunt, hammer-like point. Their 2014 record Estron is now getting a re-press on strictly limited edition white vinyl, thanks to Burning World.

Ommadon
V

...and so the downtuned demonic dynamic duo known as Ommadon lurch forth from their slumber to lay waste to the world of man once more. They maketh the earth shake, the skies blacken and the seas boil with their searing, scalding ur‐doom sound. Drums that fall like the footsteps of some monstrous lead‐footed behemoth collide with metallic shrieks, growls and drones that appear to be guitars but could just as easily emanate from the throat of some colossal metallic pterodactyl. Ommadon are a two headed beast of doom and you will bow down before them.

SEIROM
And The Light Will Swallow Everything

SEIROM is M.C. De Jong. And The Light Will Swallow Everything marks a departure from De Jong’s usual desolate and bleak work, this time he has created something that is bright and glorious, 4AD-ish and cinematic by using elements of shoegaze, post-rock and black metal. And The Light Will Swallow Everything is available on vinyl LP.

Atlantis (Gilson Heitinga)
Omens

Dripping with paranoia, dark and heavy, OMENS is the latest in genre-transcending drone. Between ambient and metal, atlantis is an unstoppable force that crashes through houses and dreams in search of sonic darkness. Never comforting or stopping, this album will please all you heads in search of the heavy stuff.
