Scrub A Dub Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Aquarius is the new project from Tokyo native Chikuma Tsuboi who moved to Glasgow and started up some club nights in the early days of dubstep. Silke and Goth Trad are known due to his promotion of them. He has also supported Mala at The Art School and engineered for Mungo's Hi-Fi. Soulquences is sound system music ripped apart and sewn together with ambient passages, the jaggedness of grime and some hefty bass. He returned to Tokyo to finish the album, which has been a labour of love for some time. Double LP on Scrub-A-Dub.
- Vinyl Double LP (SCRUBLP001)
Mungo’s Hi Fi return to 180 gram vinyl with this one-sided 12” on Scrub a Dub. The dub experimenters bring along Charlie P for this bleak and atmospheric mix from JD. This is tense and paranoid bass music for fans of The Bug’s sonic assault and heard most recently in Kahn and Neek sets.
Mungo’s Hi-Fi is infamous over here for taking this massive 24” sub woofer everywhere the name pops up, and not without reason. Just as always, the Kahn Remix of Rules of the Dance is thumping and not about to go easy on you, should you choose to play it. Be sure your record player is protected from bass vibrations.
Mungo's Hi-Fi ft Sugar Minott & Daddy Freddy
Glaswegian sound-system stalwarts Mungo’s Hi-Fi turn up with a new platter of reggae-dub sound, this time with help from both Sugar Minott and Daddy Freddy. Raggamuffin is suitably weighty with very strong vocals: on the AA side we have a remix by Chimpo, who loads up the wob in an early-dubstep style.
