Coyote Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Last Japan’s long and fruitful relationship with Coyote Records (Chemist, Mella Dee) continues with this seven-track drop. LUNA is the producer’s lengthiest offering since 2014’s Ride With Us, and like that mixtape the cuts here alternate between expansive-but-not-quite-weightless soundscaping (‘Tether’) and icy-as-hell Eski instrumentals (‘Squad’). Conceived in winter and inspired by Bow, this is as grimy as they come.
Euphoric trap might seem like an oxymoron to most, but Chemist and Tom E. Vercetti push huge rising, harmonious synths lines and arpeggiators you’d hear in some RL Grime outings, and more-so in witch house acts such as Salem, in into a cleaner and clearer territory. Liquid trap? Anybody? Can we make that a thing?
Spokes is a busy, playful producer working with shiny variations on core grime elements. The Green Eyes EP is the lengthiest release yet from this guy, containing three very engaging tracks backed up with a remix from E.M.M.A. All sorts going on in this sound, but still it feels like there is plenty of space. 12” on Coyote Records.
