Ride
Clouds In The Mirror (This Is Not A Safe Place Reimagined by Pêtr Aleksänder)

Underscoring the forward-thinking nature of their output that so many overlook, Ride have handed the entirety of their recent sixth studio album This Is Not A Safe Place over to the neo-classical duo Pêtr Aleksänder. On Clouds In The Mirror, they’ve entirely re-imagined the tracks as beautiful, beatless exercises in strings and synths with only Mark Gardener’s vocals remaining.

Julia Bardo
Phase

Julia Bardo has a name that sounds like she should be famous. She isn't yet but she will be  - whether that's with her involvement in post-punk up and comers Working Men's Club or with her solo work. The latter is an attempt to create something solely her own work and is inspired as much by '60s heroes like Nancy Sinatra as much as it is by more modern singers like Cate Le Bon and Marissa Nadler. One to watch, for sure.

Health&Beauty
Shame Engine / Blood Pleasure

Bringing back some of the musicians who’ve helped him bring his musical visions to life since the group’s establishment in the early Noughties, Brian J. Sulpizio releases his seventh Health&Beauty album Shame Engine / Blood Pleasure, which may his most sophisticated and rewarding yet.

Will Samson
Paralanguage

Paralanguage is the fifth album by Will Samson. The album was inspired by the experiences following the sudden death of his father and experiences with magic mushrooms. It even includes some vocal performances recorded whilst experiencing the effects. The album had some musical assistance from violin player Beatrijs De Klerck who plays with A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Ben Lester and Jeremy Boettcher who play with S. Carey.

Oscar Scheller
HTTP404

Once touted as the saviour of British pop in some quarters, songwriter-for-hire and producer Oscar Scheller returns with his sophomore album HTTP404. Boasting collaborations with Lily Allen, Ashnikko and Sarah Midori Perri of Kero Kero Bonito, it promises a more reflective take on the exuberance of his debut Cut & Paste.

Ride
This Is Not A Safe Place

Probably one of the best reformations yet, Ride have been better than ever in recent years and this is the follow up to the much loved Weather Diaries. Lead single Future Love is a sparkling slice of upbeat shoegaze with bodes well for the rest of the album. They have proved once again their worth and the only question left is....hat or no hat?

Froth
Duress

LA’s Froth are back after two years away with their fourth album, Duress. Two years is hardly a long time to be away, but we're glad they're back. The album addresses such hot issues as the Yanny/Laurel debate. Their off-kilter shoegaze, psych, post-punk, slacker sound is all in check, which is the main thing, like. On Wichita.

Indoor Pets
Be Content

Most pets I suppose are indoors. Maybe rabbits, guinea pigs and horses would count as outdoor pets. And bees? Is a bee a suitable (predominantly) outdoor pet? Aaaanyway this is the debut record from this Kent power pop lot whose fuzzy infectious songs recall early Weezer and Ash and have already been grabbing ears on various 6 music playlists.

Feels
Post Earth

Feels make equal amounts of noise and melody. Post Earth is the L.A. four piece’s follow-up to their self-titled debut, released through Castle Face, which was produced by none other than Ty Segall. Here, they switch labels to Wichita and soak up influences from The Breeders to Warpaint to Queens Of The Stone age.

First Aid Kit
Drunken Trees

Sweedish folk duo First Aid Kit deliver their debut: Drunken Trees. This quietly accomplished mini LP centres itself around an acoustic sound. At no point does this record make a concerted effort at hiding an undeniably impressive vocal capacity. This is a mightily impressive sounding record.

Cloud Nothings
Last Building Burning

Great news! Cloud Nothings have made their loudest record to date! It's also one of their fastest. The Cleveland OH band have drafted in Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Earth etc.) to help replicate their intense and powerful live sound on this thirty-minute one-sitting-listen slab of racket churn.

Los Campesinos
We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed

Ah, Los Campesinos!. Early birds of the 2000s NME heartbreak-tweecore indie scene, their success with university freshers up and down the country was all but sealed. 2008’s We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed, albeit a subradar piece knocked out half a year after the previous album, contained many a fan hit of its own, especially the title track.

The Goon Sax
We're Not Talking

The junior to The Go-Betweens' senior, this very good band features Louis Forster, son of Robert, probably none too happy about this endless comparison, but I just really like the word junior so was compelled to namedrop. They released a real Norman beloved record in Up to Anything and for this here follow-up they've hopped over to Melbourne to record with James Ceecil and Cameron Bird, who both know several things about indie pop via their time in overtly-saccharine super group Architecture in Helsinki.

Scent
KIM EP

Scent are a three-piece from London who play what I can only describe as semi-ethereal indie-pop. Kim EP is their debut single. The band are keen to throw people like me, who try to tell the general public about them, off their scent (no pun intended) with weird and incomprehensible press releases. Anyway, they’re new to Wichita Recordings and they have a pretty good track record of signing successful bands, so why not give 'em a go? One sided 12" single, limited to 300 copies.

Simian Mobile Disco
Murmurations

Simian Mobile Disco’s fifth studio-length album builds a sonic soundscape that sounds equally as powerful blasting through your headphones on the morning commute as it does in a sweaty club at 4am. It’s all pretty Bladerunner-esque as the techno machine that is Simian Mobile Disco collaborate with the very human voices of Hackney-based collective The Deep Throat Choir. Named after the cloud-like formation starlings make as they swoop and whirl in union, ‘Murmurations’ swirls together the natural and electronic and creates something sublime.

Simian Mobile Disco
Attack Decay Sustain Release

Originally released in 2007, this limited edition of ATTACK DECAY SUSTAIN RELEASE celebrates the tenth anniversary of this seminal debut album by Simian Mobile Disco. Ride
Weather Diaries

Much like Take That, Ride were popular and much-loved in their earlier days and following a long hiatus made a successful comeback where one of them was wearing a hat. Here, finally are the first fruits of their new work which was rather unfathomably produced by DJ, producer and remix man Erol Alkan. How will these lords of shoegaze fare in middle age? We’ll find out soon.

Earnest, open-hearted songs from duo Girlpool. Having met at legendary DIY venue the Smell, Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad were inspired to create something raw from just guitar, bass and vocals. Los Campesinos!
Sick Scenes

Good times for UK indie-pop fans as Los Campesinos! make a full-length album return, their first since 2013. Sick Scenes is an eleven track dash through the signature Los Camps style of witty, highly-personal lyrics belted out over jumpy melodic guitar thrash. Lovely stuff, as ever! Out on Wichita, with a foldout poster included with both CD and vinyl editions.

Froth
Outside (Briefly)

Froth are an LA band working that productive meeting point between melodic hazy synth-song and infinite-chug motorik grooves. Outside (briefly) features Froth showing off the most refined version of their sound to date, heavy with slick atmosphere and flair. CD and limited yellow vinyl LP editions available, on Wichita.

Cloud Nothings
Life Without Sound

Cloud Nothings have a fourth album ready to go: not bad going given that main man Dylan Baldi is still just 25 years old. Derek Bailey once said that “Life without music would be a mistake”, and we can only assume that Life Without Sound would be even worse. Fortunately, there is plenty of polished rock sound to be enjoyed on this album: the Nothings sound more accomplished than ever. Out on Wichita.

American Football
American Football

A smattering of twinkling guitar teardrops and that overwrought Kinsella coo... American Football are surely back. Long after worrying he'd accidentally made the emo revival happen, our fearless leader steps back in, releasing the third record the band have titled American Football in their career. Tough one, this. Just as beautiful as ever, the music sounds emotive and mathy, feeling but showy, and of course, the lyrics are teenage as hell. "Doctor: it hurts when I exist". Same.

Owen
The King Of Whys

Mike Kinsella has done a lot of time in the Chicago indie-etc. scene, in bands like Cap’n’Jazz, American Football and Joan of Arc. But his most personal music is made in his solo project Owen (no I don’t know the significance of the name). Much of the Owen music has been lo-fi and acoustic, but The King Of Whys is a fully-fledged big-production record. Out on Wichita.

Health&Beauty
NO SCARE

Health&Beauty (their spacing) have been around a long, long time (since 2003 in fact) so why are they cutting through now? Well it's perhaps that this version of the band that backed Ryley Walker on his incredible 'Primrose Green'. We know then that they have 'chops'. The music here appears to be jagged indie rock. Let's give 'em a chance eh?

Mothers
When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired

Mothers are an indie-folk-rock four piece from Athens,GA who have been making waves in the online and printed music press as well as on mainstream radio stations. Their debut long-player When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired explores the big questions: what is our value, what is our place in the universe, mortality and how these questions affect our relationships. The music is, in places, gorgeous, elegant and spacious, whilst in others elements of post rock and math rock are introduced. Vinyl LP and CD on Wichita.

Globelamp
The Orange Glow

Globelamp is the solo project of Elizabet Le Fey, formerly of Foxygen but now boldly doing her own thing. The Orange Glow is a strong statement, with Le Fey’s songs swaggering and swooning around like the sun-and-angst tinged music of 70’s California: the album was produced in Los Angeles. Out on Wichita.

Oscar
Sometimes / Breaking My Phone

Sometimes/Breaking My Phone is the newest vinyl 7” from Oscar. The two tunes, taken from Oscar’s imminent album, capture his infectious mixture of Brit-pop songwriting and noisy US indie elements. The witty lyrics and deadpan delivery make it sound like a glorious offcut from The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Oscar
Cut & Paste

This electro pop/rock multi-instrumentalist finally release his debut album on Wichita. Oscar has been honing a catchy sound that borrows from hip-hop to Brit-pop and everything in between. These influences are kept in check with his baritone voice and great, messy synth playing. Cut & Paste is the sound of DIY pop experiments being released from the bedroom and is available on vinyl and CD.

Cheatahs
Sunne EP

A sunny panzanella (an Italian salad, ok?) from Cheatahs. Their first release since their debut record, Sunne EP is yearning for optimism. Awash with reverb on everything, big hazy vocals, a wall of guitars and grooving drums. This is a nice slice of spring light at the end of the wintery tunnel. Think No Age, Cave-In and Real Estate. Out on 12" vinyl from Wichita.

Murasaki

‘Murasaki’ is Cheatahs third release, following their debut album and underground hit ‘Sunne’ EP. Oscar
Daffodil Days

Oscar may have flunked his attempts at further education being an art-school drop-out but he shows no signs of flunking in his music career. He has been quite prolific in the last twelve months, producing a number of songs or “Laptop Pop” in his bedroom. He takes his cues from ‘80s indie-pop and the likes of The Magnetic Fields. His debut single was self-released in 2013, but now he has signed to the legendary Wichita label to release Daffodil Days.

The Cribs
In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull

These three brothers from Wakefield have certainly got about over the last decade or so creating a homely niche for their dynamic and energetic guitar music. In the Belly of the Brazen Bull was their first album following the departure of ex Smith Johnny Marr (whose hair the brothers must have been in total awe of) and sees them collaborate with producer Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev et al). The luxury 2LP version includes a bonus 7" of further material from the era.

First Aid Kit
The Big Black & The Blue

Swedish super sisters First Aid Kit started out by posting You Tube vids of themselves harmonising to Fleet Foxes songs and it didn't take long until they were snapped up by Wichita for their debut album. If you love those sweet sweet harmonies then you are going to love this album which has them slathering their melody over some winsome and rich folk pop. Produced by their very own father, it began a journey that has seen them praised by everyone from Jack White to Patti Smith.
