Guided By Voices
Winecork Stonehenge

It looks like Guided By Voices are gearing up for a hefty release schedule in 2019. They already have Zeppelin Over China, a double album, chalked in for a February release with another album, It’s Warp And Woof, due in April. Before all that excitement however, there are a couple of 7” singles to buy, one of which is Winecork Stonehenge. 7” on Guided By Voices Inc.

Guided By Voices
Zeppelin Over China

The insanely prolific Robert Pollard releases yet another collection of grungy niceness with his Guided By Voices crew. At thirty-two songs and seventy-five minutes, Zeppelin Over China is long even by GBV standards. Indeed, it’s remarkable that an album with this many songs can remain so consistently good throughout. Then again, Pollard is a pretty remarkable talent.

Robert Pollard
Waved Out

Not only do we have to wade through a new Robert Pollard/Guided By Voices record each week, we now have re-issues to contend with. 'Waved out' was Pollard's second second solo album and came from an era where I was still fairly excited about his output. It's good, if not quite as good as it's predecessor 'Not In My Airport'. The highlight is 'People Are Leaving' where Pollard creates a brilliant double melody by singing over himself. It's worth the admission price alone.

Guided By Voices
Space Gun

Since we started our #namethenewguidedbyvoicesalbum hashtag Guided By Voices album titles have become really boring. Here's the latest one  - 'Space Gun'. 'Reversed Hen Tsunami Plot' will just have to wait I suppose. This is the third from the new classic GBV line up which includes such future legends as Mark Shue and Bobby Bare Jr. We're told Robert Pollard's songwriting has reached new heights of brilliance on this one. Hope so.

Guided By Voices
See My Field

Guided By Voices reckon that their new album 'Space Gun' is so good that they are only releasing that one and that one only in 2018. None of their usual distraction tactics. Here's an early taster which features bonus B-sides from drummer March and bassist Shue. They all chip in these days and have become a 5 headed power pop sex beast.

Guided By Voices
Ogre's Trumpet

Tobin Sprout - pah! Mitch Mitchell - who? We all know that the new classic Guided By Voices line up is the Pollard/Gillard/March/Shue/Bare Jr one that rocked Asbury Park, New Jersey in August 2017. Were you there? Probably not but now you can relive the sights, the smells and the sounds of the grandpops of lo-fi as they rattle through their last two albums and throw in a smattering of classics from earlier incarnations.

Guided By Voices
August By Cake

Robert Pollard is proud to announce that August By Cake is his one hundredth studio album release: pretty ludicrous, especially for a career of just(!) three decades. This one is Pollard’s prime group Guided By Voices, in a fresh new line-up, and it’s their first double album! Yep, still breaking new ground at this advanced hour… Congratulations Mr Pollard!

Guided By Voices
Just To Show You / Knife City

Here's a 7" taster of something from America's most tired band and official power pop grand pops Guided By Voices forthcoming boringly titled 'How Do You Spell Heaven' album. It includes an exclusive B side and comes on limited translucent green wax . Warning: listening to it might not enhance your life in anyway whatsoever.

Guided By Voices
How Do You Spell Heaven

Rather like Mark E Smith, Robert Pollard has a habit of pulling out a plum just when you are thinking it's all over. Re-grouped and re-invigorated with an (almost) all new line up, last years August By Cake was more like the band we remembered and hot on it's heels we get another. Fifteen new tunes from the fab (insert this week's line up number).

Ricked Wicky
Swimmer to a Liquid Armchair

If you thought that when Guided By Voices broke up that frontman Robert Pollard was just going to disappear, become a recluse living in a log cabin recording feedback into a four-track then you’d be very wrong. The indefatigably prolific indie-rock legend has started a new band, Ricked Wicky and Swimmer To A Liquid Armchair is their third, yes, third album in less than twelve months. This album is more assured than the previous two. This is not just a disposable side-project for him, this is his new thing.

ESP Ohio
Starting Point Of The Royal Cyclopean

ESP Ohio is yet another band by Robert Pollard, working once again with his fellow Guided By Voices member Doug Gillard. Starting Point Of The Royal Cyclopean is a proper nice rock album, with guitar chug, bonus brass parts, and catchy tunes. The good ship Pollard sails on… Released by the Guided By Voices Inc. record label

Guided By Voices
Please Be Honest

The endless productivity of Robert Pollard continues apace with Please Be Honest, designated a Guided By Voices album even though Pollard played every last sound on it. The 15 speedy songs on here give us the latest insights into this remarkably creativity, via a variety of nicely textured tunes. Out on Guided By Voices Inc.

Teenage Guitar
Force Fields At Home

More home-spun nonsense comes from Robert Pollard, who is frankly terrible at post-GBV retirement (which he has evoked twice now). Force Fields at Home sees his newest moniker Teenage Guitar spinning through jangle pop tunes similar to those of old, but without the same spry backbone. They'll tell you it's '90s GBV at heart, because that's what you want to hear -- but maybe it's better off you knowing that this is Pollard in his new, even weirder era, and that's pretty cool too.

Guided By Voices
Suitcase 4: Captain Kangaroo Won The War

You would think, due to Guided By Voices' prolific release schedule, that they wouldn’t have held anything back. However, they have: Suitcase 4: Captain Kangaroo Won The War is the fourth instalment of 100 rarities and previously unreleased tracks spread over 4 CDs. Limited edition too…..don’t miss out! There is also a vinyl version available

Ricked Wicky
I Sell The Circus

Robert Pollard is an indefatigably prolific artist, writing indie pop songs that make 99% of other songwriters jealous. Now that his main band, the legendary Guided By Voices have decided to call it a day, for a second time, Pollard has a new band, Ricked Wicky. Pollard describes the band as a “Sophisticated arena band”. I Sell The Circus is available on CD.

Ricked Wicky
Poor Substitute

Ricked Wicky is the new band fronted by Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices. Guided by voices were prolific and Robert Pollard seems to have carried that on with Ricked Wicky. Poor Substitute is one of two singles to be released from Swimmer To A Liquid Armchair, their third album in less that 12 months.

Ricked Wicky
King Heavy Metal

Ricked Wicky is the new band from Guided By Voices frontman Robert Pollard: well I suppose you can’t have a well-named band twice in your life can you? King Heavy Metal is fairly heavy metal, but also quite a bit prog, and substantial parts pop-rock. Good fun all the way on Guided By Voices Inc.

Robert Pollard
Faulty Superheroes

A couple of months have passed since the relentlessly prolific Robert Pollard unleashed his post-Guided By Voices project, Ricked Wicky on us, therefore he’s overdue a solo release. On Faulty Superheroes, Pollard delivers twelve power-pop-ish nuggets with his typically imperfect, effortless swagger.

Teenage Guitar
More Lies From The Gooseberry Bush

Robert Pollard is the ringleader of the merry indie rock men Guided By Voices, who have been releasing dozens upon dozens of records since the late 80s. Pollard is renowned for making surreal jangle pop classics that are snipped off at the ends, traditionally playing them out at under two minutes at length. As such, he's got a lot of time to write more songs: his average output a year is about ten records, under about five different aliases. Teenage Guitar is yet another solo project of his, and brings forth the bizarre, experimental reaches of his brain for a concept album with thousands of tracks (well, like, twenty-odd). It's arguably his most conceptual record since Guided By Voices' 'Mag Earwhig!', full of lo-fi humming and loose vignettes. Billed by Pollard and PopMatters as being more Pollard than Pollard, this is definitely an album by Robert Pollard.    Tracks: Go Around (The Apartment Dwellers) Spliced At Acme Fair A Guaranteed Ratio Good Mary's House Skin Ride Full Glass Gone All You Fought For Gear OP No Escape Matthew's Ticker and Shaft  a. come to breakfast b. the girls arrive c. division of swans d. when death has a nice ring The Instant American Normalized New Light Birthplace of the Electric Starter A Year That Could Have Been Worse
