Soccer96
As Above So Below

Soccer96 jam out along the jazzy electronica trails laid down by the LA Brainfeeder crew (Flying Lotus and co.), except they come from this side of the pond. With both members also playing in The Comet Is Coming, they certainly know how to lay out a spacey groove, and As Above So Below is full of them. Out on the Slowfoot label.

Prescott
One Did

Named after the irascible former MP, Prescott is the brainchild of former Stump bassist Kev Hopper who has assembled a tight absurdist trio alongside keyboard player Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti/funniest man in the world) and drummer Frank Byng (Snorkel, Crackle). They play a minimal though complex form of instrumental jazz. They wander, they wibble, they hit upon a groove and stick to it seemingly endlessly. This is unashamed art-rock with heavy nods towards King Crimson, Soft Machine, Henry Cow and The Residents.

Monkey Puzzle Trio
The Pattern Familiar

Drummer Charles Hayward of This Heat and Camberwell Now reconvenes with bass player Nick Ditmus and vocalist/sound manipulator Viv Corringham for a second album of edited improv. As ferociously rhythmic as one might expect from a unit featuring the redoubtable Hayward, ‘The Pattern Familiar’ explores the theme of defiance in the face of adversity, as outlined in Corringham’s engaging texts.
