Boston fuzzy post-grunge outfit Slothrust have moved to Los Angeles for their fourth album. For some reason, that means The Pact sounds a bit cleaner than we're used to. Of course, front-woman Leah Wellbaum still has her angry and slightly self-loathing lyrics, and they're still set to very catchy riffs. Great if you like Speedy Ortiz, Chastity Belt.

Songwriter star Holly Miranda makes further vital strides in her sound with Mutual Horse, her fourth and most outwardly developed LP -- she's drawn in collaborators including TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone and My Brightest Diamond's Shara Nova. It's 2009 again and I feel fine! As ever, Expect Miranda to seamlessly blend high and wild textures and the sheen of a synth with reflective hush.
The second half of a two album project from Canadian indie rock band The Dears, three years after the first instalment. Their seventh album is uplifting baroque pop with a Ben Folds or Penguin Cafe Orchestra warmth and sense of playful freeness, reflective of good times. LP and CD through Dangerbird.
Slothrust offer up their third album of powerful indie pop. Leah Wellbaum, Kyle Bann and Will Gorin’s classic power-trio line-up and obviously tight musical connection makes them able to unleash sings that are just as grunge-rock heavy as they are art-pop melodic. Everyone Else is released by Dangerbird.
The Dears are a Montreal band who’ve been around for long enough (since 1995) to have an established handle on their own sound. Their sixth album, Times Infinity Volume One, shows off that sweeping orchestral indie pop sound to the max, with song subjects that the band refer to as ‘Romantique’. Out on Dangerbird.
