Mahogani Music Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Moodymann’s Mahogani Music drop the fourth instalment of Rick Wilhite’s The Godson series. It’s standard MM fare on Xanadu, all elegant deep house grooves and Afrofuturist samples. The label boss lends a hand to one of the tunes, a new version of old favourite ‘Technologystolemyvinyl’ that features Amp Fiddler and others.
Amp Fiddler, aka Joseph Fiddler has achieved legendary status through his music. In a career which has seen an eleven year stint in Parliament and Funkadelic, he has also worked with Prince, Jamiroquai, Corrine Bailey Rae and Was (Not Was), to name but a few. His new album, Amp Dog Night is released on Mahogani Music, the label owned by fellow Detroit musician, Moodymann.
If you like Tyler the Creator you have to check this guy out. Tongue in cheek but is it? Sometimes so crass you can’t tell, but backed with perfectly minimal production that dips into diverse styles, and titles such as 20 Bitches Deep that do exactly what it says on the tin. Sheefy McFly tows that line between entertaining, down right funny, and sheer brilliance.
‘My Way Home’ is sample driven, Israeli born DJ/ producer Obas Nenor's debut on Moodymann's Mahogani Music label. The title track is a mindful house jam based on samples of Gil Scott-Heron's ‘Home Is Where The Hatred Is’, which might upset die hard GSH fans if it wasn’t for the beautifully detailed arrangements, contagious bass lines and innovative use of the sample.
