Miguel Noya
Canciones Intactas

Canciones Intactas, which translates into English as Songs Intact is a lovely name for a career retrospective. It suggests ambient electronic composer Miguel Noya is telling us “Whatever has happened, I’ve made these songs and they’re here for eternity”. His music has seldom been heard outside of his native Venezuela and were mostly recorded to a backdrop of national financial crises, a corrupt government and violence on the streets. The music acted as, not necessarily a remedy, but a soothing balm to help cope with the outside chaos.

Hail Nothing

In the wake of the adoration for their previous releases five years ago - the saudade EP and soma full-length - the immensely talented Singaporean duo .gif deliver another idiosyncratic album in Hail Nothing. Over its eight tracks, Weish and Din take unexpected liberties with concepts of form and content, with their trademark haunting vocals and leftfield lyrics punctuating it.

WaqWaq Kingdom
Essaka Hoisa

WaqWaq Kingdom consists of Japanese musicians Shigeru Ishihara of DJ Scotch Egg / Seefeel fame and Kiki Hitomi (ex-King Midas Sound) and they make something they like to call 'minyo footwork'. To the layman this means adventures in sound that combines such disparate things as afro-beat, contemporary electronica, techno and Jamaican dancehall. The result is a wildly creative, intoxicating brew of sound.

Hekla
Á

Somewhat appropriate for an album of theremin and voice, neither of which being instruments controlled directly by the hands, to find its way onto the label Phantom Limb. Icelander Hekla’s debut is a peculiar one indeed, really testing the expressive and musical limits of the theremin outside its stereotypical usage. This results in often rubbery, repitched, resonating bits and blobs that bring to mind a sort of stripped-down, slithering Silent Shout by The Knife. Excellent.

Hirola
Hirola

Lush and lively electronic pop music from Hirola, released on Phantom Limb on tape. It's as energising as it is dramatic and emotionally open. This makes sense given the previous acts of members LTO and edapollo. This self titled album is a wonderful combination of soaring highs and detailed production.
