Bodega
Shiny New Model

Brooklyn quintet Bodega (and not the Nottingham venue of the same name) have announced a mini-album titled 'Shiny New Model'. It features eight songs of big grooves and wistful melodies. FFO Parquet Courts, Shame, and Idles. What is a mini-album anyway? Where is the line? Is it just an EP? Answers on a postcard.

Bodega
Witness Scroll

Bodega - the band everyone is saying sound like Parquet Courts before Parquet Courts became a bit less Parquet Courts - drop a live LP. Witness Scroll features recordings culled from gigs in Glasgow and London back in May 2018. You’ll be familiar with most of the tunes here if you dug the band’s recent Endless Scroll album. However, new cut ‘No Vanguard Revival’ and an updated version of Bodega Bay oldie ‘Stain Glaze’ should satisfy your craving for fresh meat. Most of the Witness Scroll vinyl are clear, but there's also a chance that you'll get one of the special glow-in-the-dark editions which have been sent out at random. Lucky dip!

Parquet Courts
Tally All the Things That You Broke

Honestly I'd be on all night, it's going to be a very long tally indeed. Tally All The Things You Broke was an EP released by Parquet Courts in 2013 under the name Parkay Quarts which they use sometimes but we're not sure why. It features five songs recorded in the initial sessions for their What's Your Rupture? album and showcases their fun and lively sound without particularly being a precursor to what followed. An interim EP, if you will.

Brett Smiley
Sunset Tower

Sunset Tower is a collection of  previously unreleased songs by US singer/songwriter, Brett Smiley. The only album he released in his lifetime was 1973’s Breathlessly Brett - which positioned him as a Jagger/Bowie hybrid and was produced by Andrew Loog-Oldham. These recordings saw Smiley backed by The Robbs and produced by Del Shannon.

Shogun And The Sheets
Hold On Kid

It’s what Sydney’s garagepunk quartet Royal Headache frontman and restless dancer Shogun did next. He’s started a new garagepunk quartet with some ‘sheets’ (namely Gabby, Seb, Abe and Derro) and bashed out a single of characteristically energetic underground Aussie punk. B-side ‘Pissing Blood’ slows down to focus on melody and really nails it too.

Bodega
Endless Scroll

What’s Your Rupture? have already released records by Parquet Courts. Their latest release is a debut LP from an urbane bunch of Brooklynites named Bodega. It was produced by Austin Brown - you know, from Parquet Courts - and was recorded onto the same Tascam tape machine as Light Up Gold, the acclaimed second LP from Parquet Courts. Guess who Endless Scroll sounds like.

Savoy Motel
Savoy Motel

Members of Savoy Motel have come together after years playing in other bands most notably Cheap Time but here they are enjoying themselves with a kind of slinky take on indie rock that reminds me of a more scratchy Beck or a more sexy the Strokes. All fuzzy guitars and falsetto vocals and feeling rather chuffed with themselves.

Royal Headache
Royal Headache

Royal Headache are an Australian garage band, known for their very raucus live shows (a few years ago the police stopped one of their shows at Sydney Opera House after a load of their fans crashed the stage). This is their 2012 debut album, prior to the better-known 'High' (2015). It's fast, noisy, fuzzy indie punk and you should get it.

Honey Radar
Blank Cartoon

Honey Radar is Jason Henn’s free-wheeling fuzzy indie project, an intimate outpouring of his much-beloved psychedelic sounds. He’s been operating DIY fashion for a while now, but Blank Cartoon bucks the trend by being a kinda ‘proper’ release, distributed by What’s Your Rupture in a non-tiny edition. Now we can all enjoy the warm songs of Honey Radar!

Royal Headache
High

Ten tracks of highly direct indie-pop-rock from Sydney’s own Royal Headache. Fronted by the improbably (and inevitably self-) titled Shogun, the four-piece group play songs that contain energy in the playing and tru-emotion in the lyrics. Yep, its all here. High is released on the What’s Your Rupture label.
