Time to get up close and nasty with Surgeon and his Raw Trax. Straight-up heavy-banging techno recorded direct to tape in the studio, using just a single synth and a single drum machine (these were the PIN Electronics Portabella and the Roland TR-909, gear-heads). The four cuts assembled on Raw Trax 2 have made a few appearances in Surgeon DJ sets, but now you can have them for yourself.
Time to get as pure and direct as possible with Surgeon and his Raw Trax. These vivid cuts were recorded direct in the studio (no overdubs) using one synth and one drum machine only (the PIN Electronics Portabella and the Roland TR-909 if you want to know). These are total no-nonsense super-techno trax from a master of the form, released in a suitably raw sleeve by Dynamic Tension.
Accomplished techno man Surgeon aka Anthony Child returns with Luminosity Device, a title that sounds like a verbose homage to lightbulbs until you learn it really refers to the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Might be a bit more spiritual, then. These are intense modular techno tunes with excellent sequencing and the sensitive (and sensible) live editing of a disciplined DJ, not a tedious bedroom eurorack jammer. This Surgeon fellow seems to know what he’s doing.
Surgeon’s burrowing into the depths of composed-on-the-fly live hardware techno has been going further and further recently. The four tracks you’ll find here on Convenience Trap have grown out of these explorations, so they are extra direct in their power-rhythm attacks on the listener. Fierce and firm Surgeon sound, as ever. 12” EP on Dynamic Tension.
Developing his hardware improvisation over the last two decades Surgeon has decided to grace us with some of the fruits of his many labours. Taking some of those themes or ideas that he has perfected and utilised in live settings and laying them out into these four tracks. Have you just got into modular stuff… got some catching up to do.
A brand-new, full-length album from Anthony Child, aka Surgeon. This time, the conceit is that Child’s vintage equipment ended up spitting out such strange-sounding results that they could only conceivably emit from another galaxy: hence From Farthest Known Objects. These tracks are indeed a fresh, wild-sounding trip, though they still keep hold of that essential Surgeon rhythm. On Dynamic Tension.
