North Mississippi Allstars
Up and Rolling

North Mississippi Allstars are again Up and Rolling with their latest Southern blues rock full-length, one interwoven with the cultural fabric of the outfit's home state. Seratones
POWER

Seratones, fronted by Louisiana-based singer AJ Haynes, returns with a suitably titled sophomore album POWER. Her backing band now bolstered by the addition of two new players, and shows Haynes’ voice to be flexible to the demands of rock, soul and dance music, and sees her lyrics reflect the personal and political.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit
Live at Twist & Shout 11.16.07

Record Store Day 2018 brings us a first-ever vinyl edition of Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit’s Live at Twist & Shout 11.16.07. This mini-LP originally came out in 2008, a time when Isbell had just split from the Drive-By Truckers and everyone was curious to see what his solo stuff would sound like. Turns out it wasn't all that different to his old band - this is melodious, stately and proud Americana.

Andrew Combs
Ideal Man

Andrew Combs’ latest album Ideal Man sees him make a slight change in tack. Recorded in live takes with the help of producer Sam Cohen, the acoustic guitars which he’s known for are largely set aside in favour of synthesisers. Despite the change in instrumentation, the album is his rawest sounding yet.

Los Coast
Samsara

Austin, Texas band, Los Coast, make soul music with a modern twist. The vocals of Terry Privott give a sense of the coolest ‘70s soul. The band cook up an energetic groove that blends psychedelic rock and the soulful funk of Bobby Womack, sprinkled with the dust of the Texan desert. Samsara is their debut album.

Kacy & Clayton
Carrying On

Taking cues from fifty years’ worth of American and British folk and country rock, Canadian second cousins Kacy and Clayton present their third studio album. Carrying On, inspired by a massive period on the road of nearly two years, is a classic travelogue record and is produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.

Justin Townes Earle
The Saint Of Lost Causes

Being the son of a respected songwriter and being partly named in honour of another must put pressure on you. Justin Townes Earle seems to be coping okay though (these days). The Saint of Lost Causes is his eighth album. Songs of American communities are plenty: ordinary lives in extraordinary circumstances. On New West.

John Hiatt & Lilly Hiatt
You Must Go / All Kinds Of People

John Hiatt has had his songs covered by a veritable plethora of artists over the years from Eric Clapton to Iggy Pop and Mandy Moore to Nick Lowe. On this split 7” he is being covered whilst covering someone else’s song. Hiatt covers his daughter, Lilly Hiatt's All Kinds Of People and Lilly Hiatt returns the compliment covering her dad’s song You Must Go.

All Them Witches
ATW

The fifth LP from All Them Witches (God I hate that name) surfaces on New West (Caroline Rose, The Devil Makes Three). ATW - Does it count as a self-titled record if it’s just the initials? - finds the Nashville trio smooshing Southern rock and metal stylings together in trademark fashion. Riffs galore. It’s like Mastodon.

Lily & Madeleine
Canterbury Girls

US duo Lily & Madeleine started making music at high school. They were young but very good at what they did and got signed to Sufjan Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty label. Now signed to hip Nashville label New West, they’re not that much older and already have album number 4 ready to go. Canterbury Girls was produced by Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the duo behind Kacey Musgraves’ crossover success, Golden Hour. LP and CD on New West.

Daniel Romano
Finally Free

Daniel Romano is definitely good at two things: 1) making his album covers look like albums that are found in charity shops (check out the covers for Workin’ For The Music Man and Come Cry With Me). 2) working hard - Finally Free is his eighth album in as many years. His music has run the gamut of classic sounds from the past. On the evidence of the track All The Reaching Trims, he delves into the world of late ‘60s singer/songwriter to great effect. LP and CD on New West.

The Glands
The Glands

The Glands were an indie rock band from Athens, Georgia who took their influences from classic ‘60s rock and ‘90s bands such as Pavement (listen to opening track 'Livin' Was Easy'). Their self-titled album was the second of two that they would release in their time and was originally released in 2000. Singer and main songwriter, Ross Shapiro sadly died in 2016. LP and CD on New West.

The Glands
I Can See My House From Here

I Can See My House From Here gathers together the work of Athens, Georgia indie rockers The Glands. It includes their debut album, Double Negative, their eponymous second and their posthumous third, Double Coda. Their creative force, Ross Shapiro, died in 2016. There is also a 52 page book with pieces written about the band by Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), James Mercer (The Shins), Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers), comedian David Cross and Pitchfork scribe Stephen Deusner. 5LP box set on New West.

The Glands
Double Thriller

The Glands’ debut album, Double Thriller, was originally released in 1996. The Athens, Georgia band were lead by the late Ross Shapiro. If you’re a fan of ‘90s American indie but have never come across The Glands, you really should check them out…..and what better way with this - it’s first time on vinyl. Also available on CD on New West.

The Glands
Double Coda

The Glands’ main man Ross Shapiro died in 2016. Double Coda collects together 23 songs that he had written and recorded in the 16 years between the band’s second album and his untimely death. It serves a follow-up to their self-titled album from 2000 and a worthy final chapter for a band who burned out rather than faded away. A must for fans of the band who thought there would be no more. LP and CD on New West.

JD McPherson
SOCKS

JD McPherson SUCKS. No, I mean SOCKS! Apologies! On the contrary, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma songer-singwriter JD McPherson’s new and fourth album does many things, but drawing in with suction isn’t to be counted among them. For a start SOCKS is a Christmas album and, arriving with the punctuality of supermarket tree decorations, comes brimming with cheery, wry humour (cf. ‘Ugly Sweater Blues’).

Buxton
Stay Out Late

Texas quintet Buxton emerge from an involuntary hiatus of strummer’s block with new album Stay Out Late. Aside from dictating to you how to spend your Friday night, the album comprises the results of reinvigorated creativity, the band having found itself back in the studio for the first time in years. The similarity of principle songwriter Sergio Trevino’s voice to Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor’s is quite remarkable. Has anyone ever seen them both in the same room?

Ron Gallo
Stardust Birthday Party

Ron Gallo was going through a difficult time when recorded his last album, Heavy Meta. This, he felt, prevented him from putting the real Ron Gallo on tape. With his new album, Stardust Birthday Party, he’s managed to find his essence. It’s still indie rock that fans of The White Stripes would probably like, though. Vinyl LP or CD on New West.

Aaron Lee Tasjan
Karma For Cheap

Aaron Lee Tasjan is another perfect incarnation of the subironic American singer-songwriter with a twang for blues progressions, clever lyrics, and catchy hooks. His new album is packed with head-nodders. Added bonus: buying a copy from your favorite indie record store would be a great way to get Karma for Cheap.

The Devil Makes Three
Chains Are Broken

The Devil Makes Three - a name which could be a Marilyn Manson reference, but given the style of music they make we’ll wager it’s got more to do with Emmylou Harris - release their first full-length of original material for five years. Chains Are Broken is way more polished than a lot of Americana LPs, and this allows the group’s full-throated anthems like ‘Paint My Face’ and ‘Bad Idea’ to ring loud and true.

Andrew Combs
5 Covers & A Song

This new EP from Nashville singer-songwriter Andrew Combs does what it says on the tin. 5 Covers - of tracks by The Strokes, Radiohead, Lucinda Williams and more - pave the way for an original to close the record out. Stylistically the music is a nice blend of Brian Ferry and Swordfishtrombones-era Tom Waits.

The Nude Party
The Nude Party

As you might have guessed the Nude Party are all about having fun.  On this their self titled debut that have made the sort of groovy and exciting records that you'd want to play on a summers day. Produced by Oakley Munson of the Black Lips it was recorded in Woodstock, a place which in the 60's was fun all day long, all night strong.

Wild Moccasins
Look Together

New West Records (All Them Witches, Ben Folds) drops the third LP from Texan group Wild Moccasins. Look Together will be seen by history as the moment the band went for broke trying to make it as a Big Pop Group. Produced by Ben H. Allen, who has helmed records for Gnarls Barkley and Animal Collective, tracks like ‘Longtime Listener’ have choruses aimed squarely at late-afternoon main stage slots. Time will tell if Wild Moccasins have their wish granted. Blondie spring to mind, but if they were, like, Of Montreal instead.

American Aquarium
Things Change

Following yet another personnel reshuffle, BJ Barnham and his latest American Aquarium bandmates have a new album Things Change. Once again, Barnham successfully got the record funded by fans through Pledge Music, which is nice. Set your phasers on Springsteencore, because “Tough times don’t last / Tough folks do”.

Arthur Buck
Arthur Buck

Peter Buck has dyed his hair blonde!  Arthur Buck is the new collaboration between legendary former R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur who once had one of his songs used in an aftershave ad. This is polished rock ‘n’ roll, featuring Buck’s crunching guitar and Arthur’s gravel-scratched voice. Eponymous album available on limited edition indies only red and blue split colour vinyl, standard black vinyl and CD on New West.

Jessie Baylin
Strawberry Wind

Syrupy 1970s songwriting from Nashville musician Jessie Baylin, written with the admirable goal of appealing as much to children as to adults. This is a goal that enough children’s film companies seem to forget to take on board, but it’s also scarce in the Anglo-Western music world. Baylin’s mature and kind voice impart whimsical lyrics and warm melodies - think Beatles, Carol King, etc.

Naked Giants
Sluff

Naked Giants hail from Seattle, and Sluff is their debut album. Their sound flits between short bursts of propulsive indie rock, with catchy hooks and immediate guitar riffs which would see them destined for the big time, to longer, multifaceted, albeit indie rock, pieces which make them an interesting underground proposition. 150g coloured vinyl LP and CD on New West.

Vic Chesnutt
Drunk

The third of his damning and devastating records, Drunk sees Vic Chesnutt making sparse, economical songs with little contributing to his often meandering but extremely punchy lyrics. His early works will come as a surprise to anyone indoctrinated in the ways of classics At the Cut and North Star Deserter, but Drunk proves that Chesnutt's often hopeless but often affirming songs survive in any style. Reissue comes with a lot of b-sides and a Radio Holland performance.

Caroline Rose
Loner

With its combination of wry, caustic lyrics and zany synth-rockabilly instrumentals, the second LP from Caroline Rose is easy to like. Singles ‘Money’ and ‘Soul No. 5’ are clever, pepped-up and above all really fun, while Rose remains a simultaneously commanding and welcoming presence throughout. We’re somewhere between St. Vincent, The Gun Club and Colleen Green here, and it’s a very nice place indeed.

Ben Miller Band
Choke Cherry Tree

Well we've already had the Steve Miller Band ('Abracadabra' et al) but this is something new. It's the Ben Miller Band  - a totally different thing. They make a kind of sprawling Americana with washboard bass and slide guitar alongside cello and four part harmonies. This is the first record to feature new member Smilin' Bob. For fans of ZZ Top.

Various
Crazy Heart (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Crazy Heart was the 2010 smash-hit Jeff Bridges film about a washed-up country singer, and of course such a movie comes with a high-grade soundtrack to match. This reissue of the soundtrack, marking the first occasion it has been made available on vinyl, features both country classics and Jeff Bridges’ own recordings of songs, some also featuring Colin Farrell. Double LP on New West.

Guided By Voices
Live From Austin, TX

Back in 2004, Robert Pollard had decided that Guided By Voices, a band that had been his baby for more than 20 years, had run it’s course. Live From Austin, Texas was one of the band’s final gigs, and you can now share the emotional night with them again. Available on 2LP vinyl or 2CD+DVD. It needs to be pointed out that Guided By Voices reformed in 2012 and have released a further 9 albums to date.

The Texas Gentlemen
TX Jelly

The Texas Gentlemen are rather like those legendary studio session bands of old: a tight gang of professionals who can turn around astounding performances in the blink of an eye. TX Jelly came out of four days of live-in-the-studio playing, and shines with authentic American quality. TX Jelly is released by the New West label.

JD McPherson
Undivided Heart & Soul

JD McPherson was delighted to have access to all the vintage analogue gear of the RCA Studio B in Nashville, and that delight comes across in the recording of Undivided Heart & Soul. This album really sounds like a classic old American Rock’n’Roll blast, but perhaps with even more beef. Released by New West.

Hamell On Trial
Tackle Box

Described as the anxiety-induced, claustrophobic spirit that the USA now inhabits, Tackle Box is the heavily politically involved, sometimes quite humorous, release from Hamell On Trial. Pretty much recorded by himself in his own home studio, this record is a great mix of fast paced, drilling vocals and acoustic guitar that is available on vinyl LP and CD.

Kacy & Clayton
The Siren's Song

With their washed out olde album cover and extremely goofy '60s psych fonting, you might think you were bumping into Kacy & Clayton in some sorta musical time travel extravaganza. They are, however, a modern band that exists right now, having recorded this album with incidental pal Jeff Tweedy (Wilco, anybody?) in 2016. Their fourth record to date, The Siren's Song is inspired by a plethora of rock and country greats -- and it's also navigated by one.

Vic Chesnutt
Ghetto Bells

Here is a re-issue of Vic Chesnutt's 2005 album "Ghetto Bells" in which the Athens-based songwriter was joined by a veritable who's who of collaborators most notably jazz icon Bill Frisell and legendary multi instrumentalist Van Dyke Parks. It perfectly places Chesnutt's poetic delivery within a frame of gorgeously realised music.

The Secret Sisters
You Don't Own Me Anymore

You Don’t Own Me Anymore is the latest release from The Secret Sisters. A twelve-song collection of haunting and vocally mesmerising tracks that were written by accident and unintentionally became an album. A cracking collection of folk and country that sounds like it could be plucked from the USA some hundred years ago. Available on Vinyl LP and CD.

Ben Lee
Awake Is The New Sleep

Awake is the New Sleep was Australian wonderkid, singer/songwriter and Evan Dando admirer, Ben Lee's fifth album and was originally released in 2005. Har Mar Superstar, Jenny Lewis and actor Jason Schwartzman make guest appearances. It was produced by Brad Wood, who is known for his work with Liz Phair and Veruca Salt. The album is pressed onto heavyweight vinyl and the package features an embossed jacket and brand new liner notes by Ben Lee himself.

Vic Chesnutt
Silver Lake

U.S-born songwriter Vic Chesnutt's legacy is still very much alive and kicking. Silver Lake is one of the most impressive of his whopping 17-album-large repertoire. Initially released in 2003, the full-length perfectly encapsulates a witty vision of America in Chesnutt's pleasant indie-folk.

David Byrne
Live From Austin, TX

Here's a chance to buy a slice of, renown singer-songwriter, David Byrne's evolution on the live arena. Live From Austin, TX showcases the ex-Talking Heads member's on-stage flair perfectly. The performance, shot in 2001 soon after the release of 'Look Into The Eyeball', is an absolute must see for any fan.

Justin Townes Earle
Kids In The Street

Justin Townes Earle, son of Steve Earle, presents his seventh full-length record, Kids In The Street. The album was recorded with Mike Mogis, Paul Niehaus, and a special selection of guest musicians, picked for their affinity with Justin’s roots-based Americana folk approach. Kids In The Street is released by New West.

Vic Chesnutt
West of Rome

Vic Chesnutt’s West Of Rome is the second studio album by the Athens, Georgia songwriter, recorded with Michael Stipe at the production helm in 1992. Not only does this reissue add seven bonus tracks of four-track demos, live tracks and outtakes, it also puts West Of Rome onto vinyl for the first time ever! Double LP reissue on New West.

The Deslondes
Hurry Home

The Deslondes come from New Orleans, a major centre of American musical culture if ever there was one. The five-piece band, here presenting their second album, have absorbed the sounds and styles of country, soul, psychedelic rock, R&B, gospel, and more besides, making Hurry Home a firmly-grounded American album. Out on New West.

Ben Folds
In Concert 2015 - 2016

Ben Folds follows up his So There collaboration with the contemporary classical group yMusic with a live record. In Concert 2015-2016 shows off Folds’ flair for arrangement, with his proper pop songs translating marvellously to the ‘chamber rock’ set-up. 10” vinyl release, packaged with a download code that includes bonus tracks. Released by New West.

Vic Chesnutt
Is The Actor Happy?

Is The Actor Happy?, the 1995 album by Georgia, USA singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt, has been out of print for absolutely ages, so this reissue is a pleasure to see. It even includes six bonus tracks of Vic’s country-flavoured poetics. This is warm and lyrical songwriting, and Is The Actor Happy? is considered one of his finest records. Produced by Michael Stipe. 2LP on New West.

Daniel Romano
Modern Pressure

Ontario-based musician Daniel Romano has released a twelve-piece full length record entitled Modern Pressure. A great mix of alternative-rock and folk and country music, this release seems like it could have fit in 1980’s bible-belt America. Unrestrained and undeviated, this record is available on Vinyl LP and CD.

Neko Case
Live From Austin, TX

Despite beginning her career as a punk rock drummer and spending a large part of it singing back up for New Pornographers, it is for her voice that Neko Case will probably be remembered. I once saw it described as "the sort of voice that does something funny to a man". Here it is swooping and carousing in a live set from 2003. Case picks out bits of her first three solo records and performs them with gusto to some pretty happy Texans.

All Them Witches
Sleeping Through The War

Sleeping Through The War by All Them Witches is a well-crafted rock record. The band wrote all the songs before spending six days in a Nashville Studio with Sturgill Simpson/Rival Sons producer Dave Cobb. The album, a result of overstimulated minds from relentless touring, has an energy that demands the stereo be turned up to full whack.

The Whistles & The Bells
Modern Plagues

Modern Plagues is an album that grew from The Whistles & The Bears main-man Bryan Simpson’s dreams of a wild fantasy dinner party: key figures from history arguing and getting drunk together. Although this isn’t a straight concept album, the smart indie-pop songs of Modern Plagues do have a colourful and eclectic flavour to them, just like the best parties. Out on New West.

Nikki Lane
Highway Queen

Highway Queen is the latest instalment from Californian based singer songwriter Nikki Lane. Along with her backing band, she has now released three records that combine American folk and country with indie rock paired with her clever lyrics and smooth vocals. Highway Queen is available on Vinyl 12”, CD and even Cassette tape.

Vic Chesnutt
Little

It’s Vic Chestnutt’s 1990 debut album Little, back in print at last after decades of unavailability! This set of intimate guitar-and-voice songs was produced by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, who also contributes some keyboard. The sparsely beautiful set has had five bonus tracks added to it for this vinyl reissue on the New West label.

Ron Gallo
Heavy Meta

Ron Gallo still claims to not know what he’s doing on his latest fuzzy opus for New West, Heavy Meta. His hope is, however, that his music will resonate with listeners. Moreover, that coming to his shows and buying his records fans will enable him to have an outlet for becoming a ‘total psychopath on stage’ in his own confrontational yet witty manner.

Shovels & Rope
Little Seeds

The husband and wife duo Shovels & Rope continue their explorations of American music and life with Little Seeds. Folk and country musics weigh heavily on their songs of hardship, but they aren’t afraid to thrown in slices of rough guitar noise to spice the pot. Little Seeds is released by New West on CD and on vinyl: the latter is pressed to 2 LPs of translucent red wax, with an etching on Side 4.

The Devil Makes Three
Redemption & Ruin

The Devil Makes Three call themselves a bluesgrass folk punk band, and for this monster 12 track cover album they’ve looked back at their wide scope of influences, covering Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Willie Nelson, and Tom Waits in their own inimitable dusty red velvet saloon way. Filled with sorrow and sin.

Kacy & Clayton
Strange Country

Kacy & Clayton sound like a fall through some time tunnel to the 70’s folk days of Fairport Convention and the like. Kacy Anderson’s vocals are sheerly beautiful and cousin Clayton Linthicum is a dab hand with a guitar. Strange Country synthesizes various British and American folk forms and creates something compelling and fresh. On New West.

Lily & Madeleine
Keep It Together

Sisters Lily & Madeleine make a laid-back folk with jazzy edges and on Keep it Together have drawn together all the elements of their past releases. Their songwriting is strong and their dual vocals are charming. The pair have released on Sufjan Stevens label and his sound a good reference point too. This album is released by New West.

Slobberbone
Bees and Seas: The Best of Slobberbone

Since 1992 Slobberbone have been making a chaotic grunge rock with witty lyrics and catchy hooks. Now New West have decided to release a greatest hits for this Texas institution. Bees and Seas: The Best of Slobberbone on 2 CD or double vinyl LP carefully selects the songs that best represent the group’s hard-rocking alt-country sound.

All Them Witches
Dying Surfer Meets His Maker

Having released much of their previous material themselves, All Them Witches are putting their latest psych-rock epic through the New West label. Locking themselves away in a Tennessee cabin for 5 days, they’ve emerged with Dying Surfer Meets His Maker as a result. Whilst there is a definite groove; switching between soft vocals over picked guitars and Hawkwind esque bass driven peaks, there is a palpable sombreness to this record.

All Them Witches
Lightning At The Door

All Them Witches are a heavy-jamming psych-rock unit, able to brew up mighty, bluesy riff-monsters in no time at all. Studio album Lightning At The Door was first released last year, but this reissue adds two exclusive bonus tracks: in the form of a stand-alone 7” if you get the vinyl version! On New West.

Luther Dickinson
Blues & Ballads (A Folksinger’s Songbook) Volumes I & II

Folk, blues, and southern rock troubadour Luther Dickinson, release Blues & Ballads (A Folksinger’s Songbook) Volumes I & II. This collection on New West highlights the mid-south, Memphis rock ‘n roll sound that Dickinson works to preserve. To celebrate oral and written traditions in music Dickinson has also included a 16-page songbook with both the digipak CD and 180 gram vinyl double LP.

James Cotton
Live At Antone’s Nightclub

Some classic blues here from James Cotton, a hardy veteran of feeling a bit sad and singing about it. Live At Antone’s Nightclub is just that, a classic live show from Cotton and his ensemble on energetic form. Reissued by New West, both CD and LP editions are packed in a luxuriously embossed leatherette sleeve.

James Cotton
Mighty Long Time

Some classic blues here from James Cotton, a hardy veteran of feeling a bit sad and singing about it. Mighty Long Time is his 1988 album, and has the 12-bar guitar, the lived-in vocals, and the bursts of harmonica all firmly in place. Reissued by New West, both CD and LP editions are packed in a luxuriously embossed leather sleeve.

Pinetop Perkins
Live At Antone’s Vol. 1

Jools Holland’s constant interjections of ‘boogie woogie piano’ on his TV show ‘Later…’ proving not quite enough for you? Then go straight to the source with Pinetop Perkins’ Live At Antone’s Vol. 1, which is a full-on adventure in original blues music. Expanded and remastered reissue on the New West label

Pinetop Perkins
Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie

Jools Holland’s constant interjections of ‘boogie woogie piano’ on his TV show ‘Later…’ proving not quite enough for you? Then go straight to the source with Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie, by Pinetop Perkins, who truly knows the blues. This 1992 record is receiving its first ever vinyl pressing on the New West label.

Ben Folds
So There

Combining his love of stringed instruments and chamber music with his firmly rooted pop sensibilities, Ben Folds is back with ‘So There’. Consisting of eight tracks of chamber pop songs performed by Ben Folds and the yMusic Ensemble, the album also includes a 21 minute piano concerto with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

Corb Lund
Things That Can't Be Undone

Corb Lund is quite possibly the Canada’s biggest country musician, and has the distinction of being raised on his family’s ranch, making him more or less an actual cowboy. Things That Can’t Be Undone is another set of well-polished tunes, released by New West Records. CD, LP, or CD with special bonus DVD.

Daniel Romano
If I've Only One Time Askin'

Daniel Romano performs music that is fairly indebted to country, though it has feet in a few other genre-pies. Romano’s rich baritone leads it all onwards, singing of pain and heartbreak, naturally. If I’ve Only One Time Askin’ is also rich in arrangements, delicate fiddle and surges of brass rearing up from time to time. On New West.

The Deslondes
The Deslondes

Drawing from the rich traditions of Americana, New Orleans band The Deslondes self titled debut album is a meticulously crafted introduction to their unique sound. Influenced by classic rock ‘n’ roll, sixties soul, R&B, country, boogie, honky tonk, blues and every other kind of pre-war American roots music ‘The Deslondes’ is a tribute to the past made with love by a collective of gifted songwriters.

Anthony D’Amato
The Shipwreck From The Shore

He used to be so alone; thank you for coming back to him. Anthony D'Amato gravitated towards bedroom pop and sparse solo song-writing before 'The Shipwreck From The Shore', but the ten tracks on this album see him herald in a new era with a full band who tinker with keyboards, marching percussion and knotty guitar interplay. It's quite joyous, hearing D'Amato make some friends.

Rodney Crowell
Tarpaper Sky

For his fourteenth studio album, Tarpaper Sky, Rodney Crowell has teamed up once again with Steuart Smith, his long-time collaborator. Tarpaper Sky has been warmly received by the music press and is already being touted as a classic to rival albums such as Life is Messy and Diamonds and Dirt. Tarpaper Sky is available on vinyl LP with download code and CD.

Howe Gelb
The Coincidentalist

Former Giant Sand bloke Howe Gelb has bequeathed us an LP of quirky indie-rock. It’s called The Coincidentalist, features contributions from Bonnie Prince Billy and KT Tunstall and was produced by a combination of M. Ward and Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley. Musically it’s kind of like Sun Kil Moon’s Benji if Mark Kozelek was a charming oddball as opposed to an unrelenting grouch.

Drive-By Truckers
Ugly Buildings, Whores And Politicians

If you’ve always wanted to get into Drive-By Truckers but have never found the time, then Ugly Buildings, Whores And Politicians is the record for you. A semi-ironic ‘greatest hits’ set, this compilation features highlights of the band’s first seven LPs as well as a little dip into 2009’s rarities collection The Fine Print. Southern rock done right.
