Mattias Uneback
Voyage Beneath The Sea

Mattias Unebeck is known for being a member of Swedish rockabilly band The Test Pilots and as a member of exotic lounge jazz outfit Ixtahuele. He expands on his experience with Ixtahuele on his new album, Voyage Beneath The Sea. He combines exotica of the ‘60s with library music from the ‘70s to create a journey through underwater worlds that are both fictional and factual.

Dungen
Ta Det Lugnt

Reissue of the third LP from Swedish psychsters Dungen here. Ta Det Lugnt received rave reviews when it first emerged in 2004 and it remains a pleasant yet potent haze of trippy rock grooves. Among all the riffage this thing also contains excursions into lounge jazz and the sort of droning organ pieces that sound great when you’re high (probably…). That Goat lot probably had Ta Det Lugnt on heavy rotation as youths.

Baby Grandmothers
Merkurius

Merkurius is only the second album by pioneering Swedish psych-rock band, Baby Grandmothers. The band have been active since the mid ‘60s, in one guise or another, and supported acts such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Now they’re back on record to show that they’ve still got what they’ve always had. LP is limited to 1000 copies, CD limited to 500 copies on Subliminal Sounds.

Kano
Runes

The first thing to say about this is that it’s not by the grime legend Kano. In fact, Runes is about as far away from ‘P’s And Q’s’ as it’s possible to get. Originally released in 1986 under the names of both Kano and Don Campbell - again, nothing to do with the Lover’s Rock singer - Runes is a spare, haunting record that teeters on the border between New Age music and ritual/dark ambient. Re-released by Subliminal Sounds.

Träden
Träden

Well, what have we here? Nothing other than a brand-new *double* album from Träden no less, formerly known of course as Träd Gräs och Stenar. Their truncation from 'Trees, Grass and Stones' to merely 'The Trees' has done nothing to lessen or dampen the edges of their sound. Simply self-titled 'Träden' this latest sprawling opus takes in the various, awesome spectacles of mossy, serene nature, the woods etc., and was stitched together from chugging jam sessions, hard graft and not a little perspiration. Earthy, trance-inducing, patchouli-scented psych-rock. Naturally. 2xLP in a limited edition, gatefold sleeve -- or on CD -- on Subliminal Sounds.

Tobias Petersson
Amon Duul II and the Birth of Krautrock 1968-1972

If you’re a fan of Krautrock you no doubt can wax lyrical about its heavy germanic electronic brilliance. Amon Düül II were at the forefront of the movement, and this book from Tobias Peterson contains everything you need to know about the band and the sound that could only have been birthed in a German still divided by Cold War tension and misery. Hardcover book, 160 pages.

Dungen
Skit I Allt Instrumental Mixes

A luxury treat for Dungen fans: this release features instrumental versions of every last track from the Swedish psychedelic crew’s Skit I Allt album (translation: ‘Screw It All’), split across five 7” vinyl records and all packed in a box along with a small poster. Strictly limited edition of 500 on Subliminal Sounds.

Trad, Gras och Stenar
Tack For Kaffet

This is a particularly special record for Swedish underground legends Trad, Gras och Stenar, as it features their last ever jams with two band members who have since passed away. Tack For Kaffet, presented as a tribute to those members, is nevertheless full of improvisational life, with some moments of pure gorgeousness. CD and double LP editions on Subliminal Sounds.

Ixtahuele
Call Of The Islands

Elevator music, dinner jazz, whatever. A group of white dudes do ‘island music’ here, and the general air of easy-listening pleasantry here is underpinned by solid musical ability and an interest in otherwise-maligned genres seen in the work of Henry Mancini and more recently Todd Terje. Vinyl and CD.
