Minimal Compact
Creation Is Perfect

Dutch post-punk band Minimal Compact formed in 1980 and were famed for their energy, unpredictability and intensity. Creation is Perfect sees them under the guidance of long time collaborator and post-punk legend Colin Newman of Wire as they re-record some classic tracks, giving extra hue to their original compositions.

Akatombo
Trace Elements

Originally released in 2003, this is the atmospheric debut of Akatombo - one Paul Kirk, a Scot based in Japan. His sonic landscapes tell of the bustle, infrastructure and human warmth of Hiroshima, often haunted by wafts of pulsing beats, sub bass and angsty guitars. More than a decade on, it still sounds like very little else.

Malka Spigel
Rosh Ballata

Malka Spigen! She was a member of Minimal Compact until they split up in 1988, but in 1993 she made something remarkable: the Rosh Ballata album. This is a set of music that is simultaneously happy-days nineties pop, experimental international trip-hop, and much more besides. Features contributions from Colin Newman and Anton Shammas. Reissued by Swim.

Immersion
Sleepless

Immersion is the pairing of Minimal Compact’s Malka Spigel and Wire’s Colin Newman, dabbling once more in experimental goodness. Sleepless is beautifully put together, giving off nice kosmische vibes at times. The album also features some guest appearances, from members of Hexenschuss and Holy Fuck. Released on the Swim label.

Immersion
Analogue Creatures Living on An Island

Immersion is a project by Colin Newman of Wire and Malka Spigel of Githead. It was shelved just before 2000 and has now been brought back on Newman’s Swim imprint. Analogue Creatures Living on An Island is glorious synthetic dream pop that lacks structure or rhythm, it nears on drone, but with an undeniable sunshine to it.

Immersion
Analogue Creatures

This five track vinyl 10” from Immersion perfectly connects the duo’s backgrounds. First formed by Wire’s Colin Newman and Minimal Compact’s Malka Spigel in the 90s, Immersion make organic techno built from precise loops and minimal textures. As the name Analogue Creatures suggests, this EP is about analogue gear and making a racket with it.

Githead
Waiting for a Sign

The fourth album from experimental indie supergroup Githead is more surprisingly melodic post-punk and rich, sunny instrumentation. Robin Rimbaud AKA Scanner mixes his experimental tendencies with the skills of Colin Newman from Wire and Malka Spigel and Max Franken of Minimal Compact. Improvised music has never sounded so immediate and memorable.
