Vegetable are new band featuring members of other bands I've never heard of (Chandails, XNA & Hell-Kite just in case you know better than me... which you probably do). They ply their trade in semi-funky post-punk in the vein of Au Pairs, Kleenex and Delta 5. Devo are also mentioned in the press release but I don't hear that. If anything ...view item

....Where oh where is fancy bread? Is it in the heart or in the head? I posed this question to a man with more than a passing resemblance to a Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksman once. He looked me up and down, said "Ipswich" then came at me with a spatula. This album is nothing like that crap anecdote. It's a collection of songs from Stephen Steinbri...view item

Dead Boss? That's the title of this totally bizarre 3 track 7" by Pigeon Religion. Phil says it sounds like Pixies, well it certainly may well be influenced by them but this is a lot messier, like more DIY slacker punk. I really like the slurred whoa-whoa-ing, the rattly drums & the looming bass but not as much as I like the nihilistic she...view item
Gilgongo release interesting records as a rule and here's another one by Soft Shoulder. I can't quite get the image of a soft shoulder out of my head... one shoulder being all strong and supporty... the other one being a flaccid waste of space not capable of wrestling with a fly. This is a cool 7"... reminds me of those old 7"'s on Dark B...view item

Now THE WOODS with Ram on Gilgongo Records, which is an
eerie 7". It's a uber cool performance of ramshackle madness and interesting
sounds and drones. Maybe its the name but its got a campfire feel to it
with the dueting acoustic guitars. B-sides got a low bit rate sample of
some young child talking. Very free spi...view item
Beautiful and sorrowful.
French Quarter's debut self-titled LP manages to combine ambiance, melancholy and psychedelia smoothly and beautifully in a way that brings me to the verge of tears at points. The two strongest songs on this album in my opinion, Bold With Fire and Build Fires, provide a smooth, depressing and powerful intro and a...view item
Bri White/ James Fella
Here's Bri White and James Fella Split 7" on Gilgonga. First up on a ... ready... a "Pianolin" which is a cross between to a piano and violin. Its a crazy sound with the instrumentation behind her soft child like vocals spitting and wobbling like a piano falling down a spiral staircase on the moon with no immediate gravity. Honky enough to be cool ...view item
