Appleblim
Avebury

Appleblim brings it with a nice new three track release on Tempa. Avebury has two fully-fledged club action rollers, propelling you along with solid kick-drums and thick basslines. 'Wandered' however is an odder thing, all about dense and tense atmospherics. 12" released in an edition of 500 copies only.

J:Kenzo & Nomine
Ruffhouse / Blind Man – Om Unit Remixes

This one, released for Record Store Day 2016, sees veteran basshead Om Unit, now proficient in DnB and beyond, re-working two percussive odysseys by rising (risen?) star J:Kenzo and Nomine. You guessed it, skittering breaks collide with deep basses to deliver some serious heavyweight activity on Tempa.

Nomine
Blind Man

Three cuts from Nomine that show off crucial bass-weight knowledge: that when the ingredients are high quality and the juxtapositions wise, a producer only needs a slender handful of elements. Blind Man’s tracks are subtle but super spacious and containing multitudes. Really hypnotic material, limited to 300 12”s on Tempa.

Alex Coulton
Gamma Ray Burst

If you like bass tones and kick patterns that mess with your heart rate, and the polyrhythmic percussion of artists such as Joe, Manchester based Alex Coulton should be well known to you already. With releases on Idle Hands, Black Acre, Bloc and this being his fourth, but debut full length, on low-end lords Tempa, Coulton masters night-time bassweight.
  • Vinyl Double 12" (TEMPA112)

Appleblim
Minus Degree

Appleblim gets back to Tempa with a new 12”. Minus Degree starts off with a left-turn: the title track has no beats! Serious! Synths and sub bass create an uneasy soundscape, with no head-nodding of dancing to relieve you. But don’t worry, the EP’s other 2 track will give you a good time again. Edition of 300.
  • Vinyl 12" (TEMPA110)
  • Limited edition

Alex Coulton
Ambush / Direction

Alex Coulton provides Tempa with 2 cutting-edge new cuts. Ambush / Direction contains all sorts of elements, from conga drums to fizzing synth-shots and deep, deep sub-bass, allowed to hover in an empty space that gives each sound an extra impact. 12” vinyl on Tempa, released in a limited edition of just 300 copies.

Appleblim & October
Other Side of The Sky

Tempa deliver this new single from October, a crucial stretch of wobbly bass music from a producer with audibly deep roots in the Bristol scene. On the B-side he receives assistance from the legendary Appleblim, who views Other Side Of The Sky from a distance, treating it with a few tricks from the dub toolbox. 300 12” copies.

Horsepower Productions
Crooks, Crime & Corruption

Horsepower Productions release their fourth full-length album, Crooks, Crime & Corruption, continuing their highly-regarded legacy as bass music innovators. The packaging for the vinyl edition is quite something: rolls of Horsepower Productions-styled police tape were made up, and each record has been individually and uniquely wrapped in it.

Tempa Allstars Vol. 8

A selection of serious bangers make up the 8th edition of the Tempa Allstars series, produced by a number of bold young guns. So here we have Epoch, Biome, Cliques, Youngsta working with Distance, and Acre, working over two 12”s. Lots of sub-bass rumble and sharp-hitting percussion. Edition of 500.

Alex Coulton
Hand To Hand Combat / Concealed Weapon

Alex Coulton’s new tracks land on the famed Tempa label with a thud. True to their names, the tracks on Hand To Hand / Concealed Weapon do sound as if they are sparring with themselves: a multitude of percussive strikes duck and weave over low bass-growls. Excellent rollers for the dancefloor.

Various
Tempa 100

Tempa has long been an essential outpost for underground UK dance musics, particularly during the exciting early years of dubstep. Tempa 100 throws down some of those classics onto fresh vinyl to celebrate the fact that this is the label’s 100th release. Skream, Benga & Coki, Horsepower Productions… It’s all here, over two LPs.

Nomine
Inside Nomine

Combining deep sub bass, creepily uneasy melodies and blissful ambience, Nomine truly delivers on the mood front, which is an important front. Simultaneously immersive and in-your-face with subtle nods to everyone from Mala to Demdike Stare, Inside Nomine really is a trip inside Nomine. Out on CD and vinyl double LP from Tempa.

J:Kenzo
Urban Guerilla

Dubstep fundamentalist J:Kenzo returns with a limited (300 copies) four-track demonstration of his minimalist style, packed with sci-fi beats and chromium b-lines which maintain the bottom-heavy traditions of UK bass music while pushing an agenda that is very much his own. Juiceman (Ghost Crew) lends his vocal prowess to “Urban Gorilla”, which reappears in instrumental form as “Technoid” at the EP’s close.

Truth & J:Kenzo
Devil's Hands / Invaders

Taking you into the black hole with Truth & Youngsta. Devil's Hand / Invaders are two new remixes of tracks from Truth and J:Kenzo. On then A side, Youngsta spooks out 'Devil's Hands' with some eerie synths, minimal tribalism and low hertz. On the flip Truth dabbles with some heavy samples, crispier than Gary Lineker percussion and total dread. Out on 12" vinyl from Tempa.

Proxima
Trapped

A barren bowl of porridge from Proxima. Well, it seems dubstep still lives on, getting more and more mutated with its continual existence. To absolutely no ones surprise Trapped is loads of wonged-out bass, minimal drum programming and some deep gobbling vocals. More Kode9 & Mala than everyone’s favorite Skrillex. This certified mucky wobbler is out on 12" vinyl from Tempa.

Nomine
Nomine's Chant

The elusive dubstep hypnotist Nomine is about with a new 12" of three new tracks, each containing a flurry of melodies interspersed among memorizing beats and simmering basslines. There are flutes! Nomine is ready for the club as ever, as shown with the final track "Syncopator", but it's probably no club you've ever been to. Thanks for stepping out of the shadows for a second, Nomine.

Tempa Allstars Vol. 07

The Tempa Allstars compilation series is dedicated to illuminating the world as to just how far dubstep can go and what avenues it can be pushed down. The label's first Allstars release since 2010, the roster this time is as potent as ever, including one Alex Coulton as well as Innasound, Perverse and Batu, among others. 'Vol. 07' is dedicated to artists subverting the normal tempo you hear dubstep at.

Nomine
Enma / Zen Circle / Mindfulness

Listen to the sound of the bell. Inhale through your nose, and keep your back as upright as possible. Exhale, and count 1. Repeat, and count 2. If you lose count, just put on Enma / Zen Circle / Mindfulness by Nomine and drift towards enlightenment. Added bonus of finding Nirvana: this record is actually quite a danceable effort.

Truth
How Strange

Truth’s fourth 12″ for Tempa, features three tracks of their distinctive, sprawling and dramatic halfstep. While retaining the physical impact and dancefloor impulses that have long defined the genre, Truth tracks carve out colossal rifts within the mix, through which weave vocals, cryptic melodies and fluttering sound effects – all crafted for total immersion in the dance. The ‘How Strange’ 12″ is no exception.

Wen & Parris
Caught / Collide

Did you see that bear trap on the picture right above here? It’s not without reason half this record is called Caught. With their unnerving beats and atmospheric soundscapes they will capture any listener who stumbles by off guard. Hypnotic and calm, Caught/Collide is a swell debut on the Tempa record label by Wen & Parris.

J:Kenzo
Ricochet VIP

Total mind musher from J:Kenzo. Ricochet VIP are two hot slices of dread from the Kent bassmonger. The opener 'Magneto (Feel It)' is a full frontal rib shaker with some minimal vocal spurts and spaced out percussion. For the title track he trips it own with hectic percussion and jarring stabs of bass and a wee bit o' sketch. Out on 12" vinyl from Tempa.
