Somatic Responses
Assault

Somatic Responses are a duo made up of brothers, John & Paul Healy. They’ve been making industrial techno for the past 20 years. Assault is being released though Scottish techno label RIOT Radio Records. The fact that the pair come from a sleepy mining town in Wales plays into their music as it reflects the mechanical noise that goes on underground.

TSR
Terror Shit

Given that they specialise in hard-as-owt club bangers we’re going to assume that the RIOT Radio label (Neil Landstrumm, Cannibal Cooking Club) didn’t get their name from The Dead 60’s mid-2000’s indie-ska hit. The manic DJ tackle served up on TSR’s Terror Shit EP is a sort of mish-mash of Super Rhythm Trax-style acid, ghetto bass tweakers and the kind of industrial-strength hell-raisers you find released by Power Vacuum. In short, it’s wicked. Terror Shit contains three TSR originals and a remix of ‘Major Pump’ by Modulator.

Mickey Nox
Mad As A Cut Snake

'Mad As A Cut Snake' by Mickey Cox is for anyone who likes their beats copper-bottomed and their bass chewy. Be warned, this techno music is not for the faint of heart. It requires a strong constitution and an even stronger soundsystem. 'Mad As A Cut Snake' is the real deal. If you feel up to the test, however, it's out on Riot Radio Records and is accompanied by a few superb remixes from Ayacarna, Myler, and Ansome.

Dez Williams
Retribution

Sledgehammer rhythms achieve catharsis not monotony on ‘Retribution’ by Dez Williams. The five-track 12” features two remixes from fellow beat-botherers Binny and Shredder, that both maintain this sense of restless propulsion, forwards the only possible answer. It’s a kind of gleeful menace, eyes stretched wide open and body moving amid the carnage.

LADO
Rampage

Scottish imprint RIOT Radio is rapidly making a name for itself as one of the most exciting new labels in hard techno. The label’s latest drop, an EP from Berlin’s LADO, only adds to its case. Rampage contains four wedges of hard, industrial club fare. That’s two LADO originals (‘Wings Of The Antichrist’ and ‘I Walk With Gun’) as well as remixes from Endlec and D. Carbone. It doesn’t really matter who’s at the controls, mind - everything on Rampage will tear the roof off the club.
