Jeannette N'Diaye
Makom Ma Bobe

A first-ever re-issue for ‘Maom Ma Bobe’, the 1981 Afro-disco gem from Cameroonian singer Jeannette N'Diaye and one of the genre’s most sought-after 12” singles. With the Kalita label re-mastering the original’s lavish grooves, there’s also an extended remix by Dutch producer Mendel gracing the reverse.

Vance and Suzzanne
I Can't Get Along Without You

A first ever 12” vinyl re-issue for Vance and Suzzanne’s 1980 hit ‘I Can’t Get Along Without You’, one of the most sought-after and highly prized singles from the disco era. While originals will surely keep fetching triple figures, this lovingly packaged artefact from Kalita features an unearthed press photo and liner notes from contemporary interviews, plus an instrumental version on the B-side.

Cross Island
East Of The Apple

It’s always nice when someone digs up a lost classic. This time it’s the turn of new label Kalita. They have revived disco classic East of the Apple by New York sextet Cross Island. The 12” features two mixes of the title track, Just A Little Different mix and the Al Kent remix. It also includes an Al Kent remix of the track Wave.

Stirling March
Under Cover Lover

A long-overdue reissue on Kalita records of Stirling March’s cult favourite single Under Cover Lover, originally released back in 1985. Given a makeover with a welter of liner notes, interviews and exclusive photos, this Bahamian boogie fell by the wayside upon original release due to improper promotion, but has since become one of the rarest records of its genre.

Julie Coker
A Life In The Limelight: Lagos Disco & Itsekiri Highlife 1976-1981

It’s not often that we get in a record by a former Miss Western Nigeria. It’s also not often that we get in a record by a woman who was her country’s first ever female television presenter. But then again, Julie Coker is not your average artist. A friend of Fela Kuti during her heyday, the Nigerian singer and television personality is now honoured with her first compilation courtesy of Kalita Records. A Life In The Limelight: Lagos Disco & Itsekiri Highlife 1976-1981 draws from Coker's Tomorrow and Ere Yon (Sweet Songs) albums. This is a superb collection of boogie and highlife to add to the collection. Bonus points for those of you who spotted that ‘Ere Yon’ was recently re-worked by Anderson .Paak on his Oxnard LP.
