As well as being a record store clerk by day (tough job but someone has do do it), Kelley Stolz makes excellent 60s sounding pop music by night. His last album Natural Causes was very tasty indeed and so we're all happy he's back with an all new album for 2019. It's been a tough year for Stoltz with the death of his father but he channels his feelings into plangent guitar rock that will appeal to fans of the Cleaners From Venus and Guided By Voices.
Welsh genius Carwyn Ellis, a member of The Pretenders and also responsible for a while host of eclectic side-projects such as Colorama and Bendith, presents a new backing band Rio 18 for his latest album Joia! Mixing up tropicalia, cumbia and other Latin musical influences with his own folk leanings, it’s a plea against populism and nascent fascism.
Natural Causes is the new album by Detroit native, ‘60s obsessive, former record store employee and prolific songwriter, Kelley Stoltz. The press release is trying to tell us that this sounds like a cross between The Teardrop Explodes and The Kinks. It’s perfectly plausible given Stoltz ear for a tune. LP & CD on Banana & Louie.
