a.r.t.less Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
The Midwest fetishists at Mojuba Records spin-off a.r.t.less got all hot and bothered by this collection of old Detroit jams when they first issued it in 2010. Reel By Real - a Martin Bonds presentation - made a couple of drops in the early ‘90s through labels including Interface, a sub-label of Juan Atkins’s Metroplex. 20 Years Surkit collects six pieces of high-calibre Motor City fare that would otherwise have been lost to the sands of time. Fast-forward to 2018 and it’s being re-pressed again.
Here we have ourselves the first LP from Convextion in ten years. Something of a cult figure in the world of techno - his tune ‘Ebullience’ was once featured on a FACT Mag list of the best dub techno tunes of all time - 2845 is not a flashy album but still manages to show off Convextion’s command of his craft. The twinkling, starry-eyed cosmic Detroitiness of tracks like ‘Distant Transmission’ and ‘New Horizon’ recall Basic Channel and Space Dimension Controller.
