Sunflower Bean
King Of The Dudes

Following on from their breakthrough second album, Twentytwo In Blue, New York three-piece Sunflower Bean give us a new EP, King Of The Dudes. It features the bleached grunge-pop single ‘Come For Me’ which Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac apparently got an extremely hot copy of, but still liked it very much. 4-track 12” EP on Lucky Number.

Darwin Deez
10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me With My Stupid Heart

He may have had those frizzy tight curls cut off but here he is with a moustache like that and posing top off for an album sleeve. This is his fourth album which sensibly avoids the current vogue for synth rock and electro textures and simply writes good simple guitar pop with tunes you can whistle. Maybe he's ok after all?

Dream Wife
Fire EP

Brand new EP from upcoming guitar rawwwwk band Dream Wife. The lead track has already been premiered by the Fader and is described as volcanic, eruptive and reflective, there's also another track 'Somebody', and a few remixes to put the cherry on top of the cake. Raw and visceral guitar pop from the art school.

Dream Wife
Dream Wife

Debut from three-piece Dream Wife. Hailing from Brighton, London and Reykjavik, the project which began as a ‘fake band’ for an art project has morphed into something much more legit. Lively, colourful indie rock with sharp vocals and spiky political lyrics. They are now a long way from their lo-fi origins and claim they worship at the altar of David Bowie and Madonna.

Sunflower Bean
I Was A Fool

Dreamy-creamy-jangly-psych-pop from the  Sunflower Bean, on a single sided 7"; their first release with Lucky Number/Mom & Pop. If Fleetwood Mac got into shoegaze in the 90s, maybe they would have made something like this. As the ancient saying goes: don't judge a band by its naff name.

Suzi Wu
Teenage Witch EP

Suzi Wu isn't even 20 yet and is already putting out a 12" with Lucky Number. A product of quitting 6th form and becoming nocturnal with nothing but the art of a comic book writer for company, Teenage Witch contains her own alt-pop infused productions and songwriting, and the inclusion of a cover of Tom Waits' 'Jockey Full of Bourbon' as a special treat.

Samantha Urbani
Policies of Power

Samantha Urbani, aka outrageously charismatic front-woman for punk-poppers Friends, unleashes her long-anticipated solo EP, Policies of Power. It’s a bit of a contrary mélange, this. A tribute to 80s Jam-Lewis and 90s Max Martin productions with a nod and a wink to boybands, shredders and Jim Steinman. Hmm. Transparent vinyl and download code. Limited to 300 copies, on Lucky Number.

Joy Again
Looking Out For You / How You Feel

Joy Again began as a pairing of 2 lo-fi 18-year-olds, but has now grown to full band size. Young persons’ indie pop that bounces straight down the line of tunefulness. Looking Out For You / How You Feel is their debut single, and will please and delight lo-fi fans, from the big cat drawing on the sleeve to the dry-and-direct production within. 7” on Lucky Number.

Dream Wife
EP01

Dream Wife have been billed as “the most exciting band in the UK” (by their own record label) and their jangly, raw guitar pop is enough to get me excited. The trio formed at art school in Brighton and started making their mix of riff pop and candy punk. EP01 comes on coloured vinyl with a download code.

Mellah
Liminality EP

This is the very first EP from Mella, the solo project of one Liam Ramsden. Though Liminality is the first time these tracks have been released, ‘Old Friend’ might be familiar to fans of Black Mirror, where it was featured. Mella songs aren’t afraid to investigate the darkness of the city and the mind, with one song centring on the experiences of a soldier. 12” on Lucky Number.
  • Vinyl 12" (LUCKY105T)

Brandon Can't Dance
Graveyard of Good Times

Led by the lo-fi synth-feast 'Smoke and Drive Around', comes Ben Ayres' (aka Brandon Can't Dance) brand new offering - 'Graveyard of Good Times'. The new record sees Ayres, known for his homemade and minimal oddities, flirt with an eclectic array of genres - including moody post-punk and brash alt-rock.

Hinds
Leave Me Alone

Hinds are an all-girl indie four-piece with a DIY aesthetic. Their reverb-heavy guitars and call-and-response vocals are inspired by the ‘60s sun-kissed music of Californian beaches but also recall more modern bands such as Bleached, Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls. Their debut album, Leave Me Alone is getting plaudits from all the right places including BBC 6 Music, Pitchfork and NME.

Sleigh Bells
Jessica Rabbit

Sleigh Bells return with their first album in fully 3 years! Jessica Rabbit is just as it should be, with big fat pop song bangers driven by giant beats and pushed through filters of happy noise. The (limited to 1000 copies) LP edition is pressed to blood red splatter vinyl and comes with an exclusive bonus single-sided 7”! On Lucky Number.

Rexy
Running Out Of Time

Running Out Of Time was the only album to be recorded by British leftfield pop duo, Rexy. It was originally released in 1981 and has long since been out of print. Rexy were fashion student Rex Nayman and Vic Martin, who had played with Eurythmics. The duo’s use of fuzzy analogue electronics and maverick pop sensibilities have been a noticeable influence on artists such as Ariel Pink, Connan Mockasin,  Mount Kimbie, MGMT and Joey Negro. Reissue LP & CD on Lucky Number.

FTSE
Joyless

Joyless is the debut album by the tireless Midlander Sam Manville a.k.a FTSE. Formerly of hardcore band Blakfish, his new incarnation takes the political bile of his former work and channels it into a radio-friendly post-The Streets guise. Out on CD and vinyl LP on Lucky Number. Includes a free bonus Lucky Number 10th Anniversary CD.

Darwin Deez returns with a third album of his own brand of indie pop: Double Down. Whatever could the punched cake on the cover signify I wonder? Are these songs all about hatred for baking? Hard to say at this stage, but you can soon find out for yourself on either CD, vinyl, or special coloured vinyl, all via Lucky Number.

Alex G
Trick

It's the new one from Alex G. Trick is the thirteen tracker from the Philadelphia based musician and songwriter. This is one for all the indie weirdos out there, with each track lead by Alex's wonky melancholic croon over an acoustic guitar, with some bits of casio keyboards and other lo-fi bits and bats. Think Mac Demarco & Elvis Depressedly. Out on vinyl LP and CD from Lucky Number.

Alex G
Rules

Previously only available from Alex G’s bandcamp, Lucky Number announce the release of ‘Rules’, the most recent album by the Philadelphia-based songwriter. Following in the footsteps of his highly acclaimed 2014, fifth album release ‘DSU’, ‘Rules’ -which was recorded before ‘DSU’- has been remastered for vinyl release for the first time and is a well deserved document of the prolific songwriting personality that is Alex G.

Alex G
DSU

Right, people. We've been listening to this in the office for what seems like the last 6 months and we think it's going to take you by storm. Think of all the '90's lo-fi greats (but particularly Pavement) rolled up into a one man slacker-pop songwriting machine and you are in the ballpark.  Get in on the ground floor.

Deers
Barn

Deers is a loose and shambling take on indie, rock sounding something like Warpaint forced to play with their hands tied together. There's the distorto indie of the 90's slacker gals in there and a bit o' the Raincoats too. This is their first recordings as a four piece and follows on from the very popular 'Demo' back in summer time. They've been together for just a year. I take a year to put my trousers on these days (long ones).

Get Hot
Party

A collaboration between producers FTSE and Jakwob under the name Get Hot, Party is a 7” of heavy punk/noise rock which drills through your head with its screeching guitar and megaphone-like vocals. If you’re into throwing heavy metal, punky house parties that annoy the neighbours, this one’s for you.

Christian Rich
SS14

SS14 is the debut EP from Christian Rich AKA DJ and production duo and twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Hassan. Nigerian raised, Chicago born, LA-based Christian RIch recently contributed to #1 Billboard albums for Drake, J Cole and Childish Gambino, as well as producing 4 tracks for Earl Sweatshirt's #1 Rap Billboard album, 'Doris'. Heavily championed by Gilles Peterson the four tracks on this debut create a collage of vintage and vanguard that immediately sets them apart.

Caged Animals
The Overnight Coroner

Caged Animals frontman Vincent Cacchione takes inspiration for his character-led songs from the testing situations he found himself in whilst working as a medical courier in New York. Needless to say, the themes in the band’s new EP, The Overnight Coroner are quite dark. The four tracks are accompanied by a 35 minute audio short story. The Overnight Coroner is available on CD.

Sleigh Bells
Bitter Rivals

Available on CD and limited clear vinyl in gatefold sleeve with 7 cardboard inserts on Lucky Number. The third album from New York based Sleigh Bells is a continuation of the overdriven, over-angry distortion of pop music sound they have become synonymous with. Mixed by Andrew Dawson of camp Kanye West.

Darwin Deez
Darwin Deez

What is this? A re-issue? A re-press? There can't be any sane reason why Darwin Deez debut is being re-issued other than he needs some money to re-perm his hair. He's one of those bloke's who began with a song so great that it towers over the rest of his catalogue dwarfing everything else he has done. 'Constellations' is that track and it's the best thing the Strokes didn't do. Still, if you are fan of quirky, scratchy New York pop, you'll find plenty more here to enjoy.
