Spiritczualic Enhancement Center
Me And My Students Have Reached Higher Levels

A collaboration between eight musicians from around the globe, from America and Germany to Israel and Iran and calling themselves Spiritczualic Enhancement Center, Me And My Students Have Reached Higher Levels is an ambient yet curiously spiritual work reminiscent of Miles Davis at his most abstract.

Kink Gong & Li Daiguo
Dali China

Kink Gong AKA French Musician Laurent Jeanneau, specialises in recording the music of ethnic minorities, mainly in South-East Asia. He happened to meet Chinese avant-garde musician Li Daiguo when they both played the same night in Chengdu. Dali China is made up from recordings of Li Daiguo playing traditional stringed instruments pipa and zheng along with the cello which have then been mixed with field recordings and electronic sounds by Kink Gong. A fascinating mix of traditional and contemporary sounds.

Rizan Said
Saz Û Dîlan

Saz Û Dîlan is the second solo album by Syrian composer, musician and producer Rizan Said. It his his take on Dabke - the traditional folk dance of Syria and surrounding countries. It is a modern, energetic updated take on the music of the dance. Said honed his craft making music for Syrian TV and film.

Seitō: In the Beginning, Woman Was the Sun

Now this looks good. Like a mighty dub fellowship, seven of the most prominent female Japanese electronic and experimental musicians have been called on to each produce an original song for a new compilation called Seitō: In the Beginning, Woman Was the Sun. Tracks vary from dub to deep house and more.

Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga is generally one of the most unsettling albums I've heard in yonks. Tamayugé, a collaboration between Maya Kuroki and Tamara Filyavich, draws on their Japanese and Ukrainian heritages to create real domestic horror. Filyavich plinks and plonks using electronics while Kuroki sings like a possessed doll.

Doomsday Survival Kit

Thrilling and unique take on chaabi from the Lebanese duo Praed. ‘Doomsday Survival Kit’ takes familiar cues from the hyperactive form of music, but the way in which they fuse the clarinet into the sound concocts something truly distinct. It's the way the clarinet interweaves and reacts against the restless rhythms and vibrant synths, an inspired synthesis.

The Dwarfs of East Agouza
Rats Don’t Eat Synthesizers

Don't they? Do we have proof of this? This remarkably titled album is the second album by this remarkably titled group which is a collaboration between Sir Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls), Maurice Louca and Sam Shalabi. Recorded in Cairo it blends wild guitar parts, crazed beats and the warm sound of acoustic bass.

Kink Gong
Tibetan Buddhism Trip

So field recorder Laurent Jeanneau decided it was a good idea to release his recordings of ethnic minorities and their music under the name Kink Gong. He was wrong of course but either way we have a beguiling recording from Tibet and Yunnan in China which has been recomposed by Jeanneau in Berlin to form Tibetan Buddhism Trip.
