Barbatuques
Baiana (Brasingles Vol. 2)

The latest team-up between Selva Discos and the ever-fantastic Optimo is a fiery one. Barbatuques are a group of Brazilian body-percussionists, and their 2005 interpretation of a modern Bahian folk song entitled ‘Baiana’ is potent stuff. Their interpretation combines mouth-harp, a driving drum-circle beat and brazen gang vocals. The B-side sees Jan Schulte give the track a dancefloor-friendly re-rub under his Wolf Müller alias.

Maria Rita Stumpf
Brasileira Remixes

Maria Rita's Cântico Brasileiro No.3 started life as a suspenseful oddity swathed in winds sounds and vocals delivered like an intense sermon. Following the trend of dancefloor reworks, this and  Lamento Africano/Rictus from the same album are up to date as sassy, deep club destroyers.

Maria Rita
Brasileira

Extremely rare in its original edition, Maria Rita’s album Brasileira is now freed from the nonsense of collector’s scarcity and is being made available for everyone else, thanks to this official reissue on Selva Discos, a new label from the Selvagem duo. Truly beautiful songcraft from Maria Rita, recorded in 1988.
