Geeez 'n Gosh
Nobody Knows

More crazy glitch-gospel from Geeez 'N' Gosh on his 2nd album, Nobody Knows. The gospel samples are a little longer, the beats more subdued. "We Call On Him" takes a microhouse-lite approach, incorporating a modulated beats to keep the rhythm, while "Pray" takes the filters to the single-word sample of the title. Closing with "I'm Determined (Je...view item »

Marshmallow Coast
Ride The Lightning

Also on Pickled Egg is the Marshmallow Coast CD (the vinyl on both of these releases is to follow). I think I preferred this band when their music wasn't recorded as well. It all sounds too hifi and well produced. They make very American indie music with a slight quirkyness about it. Ride The Li...view item »

South (US)
S/T

I listened to this while doing a lot of travelling and found it very soothing but also fun. To me this album reminds me more of bands like Murder By Death, and especially the Appleseed Cast's 'low level owl I & II'. At times I think they repeat the same riffs and song parts a little too long to keep it interesting, but only in a few places. ...view item »

Earl Zinger
Put Your Phasers on Stun

Ridiculous amounts of fun from Earl Zinger's debut. The humour comes to the forefront on "Escape From Ibiza," name-checking his downtempo-jazz-arch-nemesis, Rob Da Bank, (its sister track, "Got to Get to Ibiza" appears later), and on "Last Of The Great Bassline Hunters," which takes its topic only semi-seriously. There's also the excitement of t...view item »

Senpai
Well

Made contact with a great new Italian label called Loretta records. Got 4 CD's in by them which are all quality Americana type pop. Not got time to write about them all but I will mention the Senpai CD (called Well) which is great. Somewhere between Built To Spill and XTC. This is ...view item »

Daemien Frost/ Montana Pete
Split

Here is a split with Daemien Frost and Montana Pete. Mr Frost does bizarre instrumental rocking type stuff in a post rock type Captain Beefheart fashion. Montana Pete is more noisey rock but with a more indie ish ness about it but st...view item »

Scud Mountain Boys
The Essential..

The Scud Mountain Boys at their best are very good indeed so a compilation of their 'essential' recordings can be no bad thing. It's a great way to get into them, but you might as well buy their first three albums as everything here has been previously released. The first two, "Dance The Night Away" and "Pine Box" are available as a double CD ca...view item »

Mower
S/T

The Mower LP is catchy shouty noisy poppy punk indie pop. Great if you like that sort of thing. Not so great if you don't. I don't. It's on that bloke from Blur's Transcopic label and it comes in that brown packaging he seems to be ever so fond of. There's a degree of evil about this rele...view item »
