RM
Spazi Futuri

'Spazi Futuri' is the second album from Riccardo Mazza, who goes by RM. Mazza draws from Italy's industrial music tradition but also includes elements of 90s trance. The result is music that builds from a slow churn to something a bit more silly. Recalls the recent output of Lorenzo Senni and Vessel's 'Punish, Honey'.

Turquoise Moon
Midnight Demon 2

The producers of 1986 horror flick Midnight Demon 2 were kind enough to give Turquoise Moon enough of a budget to record the soundtrack in a studio. When the synth duo of LA musicians Terry Ferello and Frank Heisenberg recorded the first, they could only afford to do it in a basement. The upgrade meant they could afford a drummer and they could achieve a darker, heavier, grittier soundtrack.

Clark
Kiri Variations

Clark deals us his first LP since 2017’s Death Peek. Kiri Variations grew out of the music that Clark made for Euros Lyn’s BAFTA-nominated Kiri, and the album maintains the strange tension of that show. Clark says he wants people to listen to Kiri Variations ‘in the same way they would read a set of Roald Dahl short stories’, which we take to mean anticipating spook and eeriness at every turn. Try UNKLE out for a similar artist.

Civilistjävel!
2

Civilistjävel! is an enigmatic electronic music project from Sweden. Their first LP, 1, arrived last year and was made up of music recorded in the 1990s. Now we have the equally mysterious 2. Minimal techno, dub and drone make up a record that is unlike anything else. No pretty sleeve to pour over, but it’s all about the music, right?

AJ Pain
U-Heads

ACC Records gears up for its first release of brand new (i.e. non-archival) music from Bulgarian-born producer Stan Iordanov, a.k.a. AJ Pain. Described as “executive information music”, U-Heads is a seven-track album envisaging an alternative existence for industrial music, filtered through club soundscapes.

Perila
Irer Dent

The debut album from Berlin-based Russian artist Alexandra Zakharenko - a.k.a. Perila - Irer Dent is partly the result of her WET podcasts, which explored erotica and poetry set to immersive backdrops of electronica. Released on experimental Manchester-based label sferic, it's a strikingly contemporary work.

O'Flynn
Aletheia

Following a string of acclaimed 12” singles that have found their way into the world since 2015, London-based DJ and producer O’Flynn - backed publicly by the likes of James Blake, Kieran Hebden and Gilles Peterson - delivers his debut studio album Aletheia. If it’s true to previous form, it ought to establish him among modern dance music’s heavyweights.

Michael Donnelly
Why So Mute, Fond Lover?

Michael Donnelly is an experimental electronic musician making sound collages from 'broken gear and household appliances'. Although this sounds like a rather ramshackle affair, the end-product promises to be something magical. Having learned his chops in the band Rothko, Donnelly has decided to plough his own furrow on this particular project. Expect strange timbres and immersive sounds.

Repeat

Unlike many compilations with garish colours and the ubiquitous smiley face icon on the front, Repeat is not some tired trot through the old-skool classics. Instead, through prime cuts from LFO, Humanoid, μ-Ziq and the Future Sound of London, we get a lovingly assembled deep dive into the independent British dance scene of the early Nineties, and a proper insight into rave culture.

Buzz Kull
Chroma

Back in print, it’s Sydney darkwaver Buzz Kull’s 2017 snarler Chroma. Helped along by aggressive synths, it’s rather a dark and looming entry in the genre, but I daresay a few measures poppier than most. One reason besides the good hooks is Marc Dwyer’s vocals, which are relatively measured and tasteful for underground -wave.

ANN
Certain Colors

ANN is a musical project and not just one lady called Ann. The mysterious makers behind the project are experimental in their approach, allowing allsorts into the mix from minimal techno, elements of jazz, drone, dub and even their mistakes. 'Certain Colours' is a project interested in experimentation and embracing the mistakes we make.

Tangerine Dream
Quantum Gate

Some 50 years in 'the biz' later, Tangerine Dream have never settled for less than innovation. Edgar Froese sadly left us in 2015 but his latest updated vision for the totemic band is now laid out for all to hear, on Quantum Gate. Remaining members Quaeschning, Schnauss and Yamane promise a contemporary evolution of their sound, on a concept record which strives to translate quantum mechanics into sound. Warning: new doors may open. Double 180-gram vinyl gatefold LP, CD on Kscope.

Body Of Light
Time To Kill

Dark synth-pop brothers Body of Light are still at it on Time To Kill, their third album. Odds are they've been compared to Depeche Mode before, but I'm gonna do it anyway, because they sound quite like Depeche Mode. As an album it represents refinement of their sound, a refinement that lets them go deeper and darker than ever.

Albrecht La'Brooy
Healesville

Albrecht La’Brooy is Australian electronic duo Sean La’Brooy and Alex Albrecht. Their new album of improvised gentle ambient sounds, Healesville, was recorded in a mud brick hut among a field of growing strawberries in Melbourne. The hut provided acoustically warm environment for the pair to make their music. At times, you can hear tractors and strawberry pickers talking on the recordings.

Tomorrow Syndicate
Citizen Input

Following up on their brilliant debut album from last year Future Tense and bridging a gap between their second effort expected in 2020, this is a special 10” vinyl EP from Tomorrow Syndicate. More confident and comfortable than their home-recorded album, Citizen Input adds more elements to their sci-fi/krautrock sonic compounds.

Modern Studies and Tommy Perman
Emergent Slow Arcs

This independent stores-only album (lucky us!) is a reimagining of last year’s Emergent Slow Arcs album by Modern Studies, rendered this time by Tommy Perman. The bucolic, naturalistic sounds of the original are given a modern electronic makeover, giving the whole album an extraordinarily timeless quality.

Ernest Berk
Electronic Music For Two Ballets

German-born dancer and composer Ernest Berk is a comparatively little-known figure, and his back catalogue is nigh-on impossible to explore thanks to the loss of most of his archive around ten years ago. Electronic Music For Two Ballets is therefore a real treasure - replicated from the original recording from around 1970 and now held by his family.

Pontiac Streator & Ulla Straus
11 items

Consisting of eleven untitled tracks of meandering, lucid ambient music, 11 Items is the first full-length album between collaborators Pontiac Streator and Ulla Straus, following the warm reception given to their debut EP Chat last year. Throughout the gently undulating and transformative soundscapes, the duo demonstrates an innate sense of artist kinship.

Dorian Concept
Toothbrush / Booth Thrust

With new two-tracker ‘Toothbrush’/‘Booth Thrust’ the Viennese producer/sound-artist Dorian Concept gives us more of that hip-hop-IDM thing that he’s so good at. Combine the maximalism of Rustie, the progressive tendencies of Konx-om-Pax and the day-glo hysteria of Iglooghost and you’ve basically got there. It’ll surprise no-one that ‘Toothbrush’/‘Booth Thrust’ is coming out on Brainfeeder.

ASC
Realm Of The Infinite

The press release for Realm Of The Infinite, the new LP from ASC, promises another set of ‘grey area’ techno from the veteran producer. It’s not wrong, you know - anyone familiar with James Clements’ moody, broiling take on the classic sounds of Detroit will not be left disappointed by this octet of tunes. This is the sort of club fare that induces both frenzy and introspection in clubbers the world over. Think Answer Code Request.

Holy Similaun
Hegenrax EP

Strange, screwy electronic productions from Holy Similaun here. ‘Deconstructed club’ is the label that comes closest to describing the Hegenrax EP, but the term doesn’t really do justice to what’s going on here. Almost-techno loop tracks, Lorenzo Senni-esque hyperrealism and evocative synthscapes ala Aïsha Devi are just three of the balls in play across Hegenrax. No wonder Aphex Twin is a fan.

Ariel Kalma
Nuits Blanches au Studio 116

Another hard-to-hear great from the world of INA GRM. Ariel Kalma developed an excellent electroacoustic set-up to augment his saxophone circular breathing with long tape-loops and richly-textured electronics. Nuits Blanches au Studio 116 brings us some unreleased material from deep within Kalma’s personal archives: hell yeah! On Transversales Disques.

Pact Infernal
The Gehenna Odyssey

After releases on Samurai Horo/Horo and Stroboscopic Artefacts, Pact Infernal drop new EP The Gehenna Odyssey through their own Altar Records. This is another set of occult electronics from the self-professed ‘dread technicians’. ‘Path To Topheth’ and ‘Kothar-wa-Khasis’ are new age as imagined by Prurient, ‘Itzrel Itzrzel Azazel’ sounds like drums of war being beaten in hell, and ‘Render Unto Moloch’ is devilishly dark ambient. The Gehenna Odyssey is not one for the faint of heart.

Nicola Ratti
Continental

Milan-based composer and sound-artist Nicola Ratti has previously released on the labels Where To Now? and Room40. Anyone partial to the output of those imprints - the former a wonk-techno mainstay, the latter sound-art aficionados - will be mightily pleased by Ratti’s new LP Continental. Conceived as ‘a series of big rooms or places to get lost in’, Ratti’s spacious brand of concrete is strangely charming in a sort of Oval-type way.

Pan Sonic & Charlemagne Palestine
Mort Aux Vaches

The first time it’s ever been released on vinyl, Mort Aux Vaches picked up a tiny but dedicated fanbase when first issued on CD in 2000 by Pan Sonic and Charlemagne Palestine. 19 years later, it’s given a new artwork and released on double clear-vinyl. Part of an ongoing ‘Godbear’ series of re-issues of Charlemagne’s work.

Overlook is Jason Luxton who also has connections with the labels UVB-76 and The Stone Tapes. David Holmes
The Holy Pictures

David Holmes’ 2008 LP The Holy Pictures receives its first vinyl pressing courtesy of 3 Loop Music. ‘I Heard Wonders’ is the hit - you’ll recognise it from the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics - but there’s so much more to this record. The Northern Irish singer-songwriter crams everything from Motorik Krautrock to The Jesus And Mary Chain to hauntological drone into this dense, powerful paean to his hometown of Belfast.

Nicolas Jaar
Nymphs

Following on from the Against All Logic retrospective which was released in early 2018, electronic composer, Nicolas Jaar dips back into his archive for Nymphs. The music was written over a four year period between 2011 and 2015. This triple LP on R&S is the first time the series has been released as one compilation. Artwork designed by David Rudnick.

Warm Boys

Southend’s only minimal synth punk duo Warm Boys release their debut album this August. Recorded deep in the Essex countryside with John Hannon at NO, Warm Boys is an improvised lurch through minimal synth punk, kosmische and free jazz and includes a cover of Roxy Music’s sinister critique of opulence In Every Dream Home A Heartache Warm Boys was made using:Korg MS-20 Mini, Arturia MicroBrute, Casio MT-70, Korg Microkorg, Stylophone Gen X-1, Roland SH-101, Boss DR-110 and various pedals. Saxophone by George Cleghorn. Artwork by Paul Stride-Noble.

Atypic (aka Plaid)
DE:10.09

DE:10.09 is the 9th EP in the 10 Years De:Tuned series. This time De:Tuned have looked deeply into the unreleased works of Atypic and found a pair of tracks than can only be referred to using the reverential term ‘lost classics’. Atypic are Andy and Ed from ‘90s duo Plaid who made some of the decade’s more interesting electronic music.

Humanoid / The Kosmik Kommando / Luke Vibert
DE:10.08

DE:10.08 is the 8th EP in the 10 Years De:Tuned series. Everything here is built around classic 303 acid sounds. It kicks off with a new version of sT8818r by Humanoid. Elsewhere, there is Mike Dred’s remix of The Kosmik Kommando by Biosurvival which brings some proper rave to proceedings. Tracks from veteran Luke Vibert and cult German duo Air Liquide make up side two.

Ben Blanck Mass Powers has been given the enviable task of compiling a soundtrack for a Giallo tribute film, The Strange Colour Of Your Body’s Tears. Spheruleus
Light Through Open Blinds

Lost Tribe Sound is a great little label of passionate musos who genuinely love all of the music they put out. Light Through Open Blinds, the latest LP from Lincolnshire’s Spheruleus (Harry Towell), is an easy record to get behind - you can see why the people at LTS went for this thing. This is quixotic, charming and folksy electronica that’ll have you thinking of Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs.

Chen Yi
The: 1978 - 1983

Reissue of the unfinished album by the Chen Yi artistic commune. Thanks to their brutal approach to music, they've been compared to the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and Severed Heads. This is likely what got John Peel interested which lead to an inexplicable CBS contract. Turned out it was actually just explicable and CBS pulled out. Featured here are both finished and unfinished songs.

Klara Lewis & Simon Fisher Turner
Care

Former member of The The and The Gadget (and the Portsmouth Sinfonia) Simon Fisher Turner teams up with Klara Lewis for this new record on Editions Mego. Care is an album of sound art that juxtaposes quiet drones and fragile loops with passages of busy sonic activity. The commitment to loud-quiet-loud is Pixies-esque, though musically this LP is closer to an artist like Yves Tumor.

Kiasmos
Swept EP

Kiasmos are a duo made up from Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen. Their new EP, Swept, is their first new material since their Looped EP which was released for Record Store Day 2015. It is a mix of percussion driven gentle piano music, drum loops and synth washes and club-style music with the emotive framework you’d expect from an Erased Tapes release. Swept contains three new tracks and a remix by Berlin duo Tale Of Us.

Martina Lussi
Diffusion Is A Force

Martina Lussi is a sound artist who currently calls Switzerland home. Diffusion is a Force is inspired by the way in which everything changes so quickly and seems to work differently these days from politics to music consumption. The album is comprised of field recordings, electronically manipulated live instruments and synths. It is the follow up to her Hallow Ground debut Selected Ambient. LP on Latency.

Jonny Nash
Make A Wilderness

Jonny Nash has been going full ambient for some time now, but he really goes all in on this third solo album, Make A Wilderness. A slow pace, a mixture of distant synth swells, subtle strings, and glockenspiel etc. percussion make for a thoughtful and compelling suite. Make A Wilderness is released by Music From Memory.

Datach'I
Bones

Joseph Fraioli’s recent revival of his Datach’i recording moniker continues with the project’s eighth studio album. Bones was written in the aftermath of the death of Fraioli’s father, leading to an intimate and spare album, but still one that deals in his trademark of exploratory electronica. On Timesig.

Gross Net
Gross Net Means Gross Net

Phillip Quinn, AKA, Gross Net uses his latest album title to hammer home the meaning of his music-making moniker a la Teresa May with Gross Net Means Gross Net. It could be said the music is inspired by May and her cronies too. The political mess we’re in has brought some avant garde experimentalism and dark electronics out of him that recalls Coil, late-period Scott Walker and Popol Vuh, all delivered with black humour.

The Golden Filter
Autonomy

Autonomy, the latest LP from The Golden Filter, is also the first released through the band’s own 4GN3S imprint. On Autonomy the duo of Penelope Trappes & Stephen Hindman turn in a set of dark and politicised synth-pop. Feminist rhetoric and state-of-the-nation concerns are snuck under the radar here, covered by sensual beats that draw from Italo-Disco, EBM and minimal wave. It’s all very Italians Do It Better.

Craven Faults
Netherfield Works

Right, this is really something special. A cloaked Yorkshire based producer unfurling two long form pieces of pulsating vintage synth to soundtrack journeys across the post industrial landscapes of West Yorkshire. 'Netherfield Works' perfectly encapsulates the barren but beautiful landscape yet will appeal to fans of the Deep Distance label, XAM Duo and of course the original movers and shakers in Koln and Dusseldorf.
  • Genre(s):
  • Electronic / Electro / IDM / EBM

Wilson Tanner
II

Wilson Tanner, who lets remember are two men rather than one, present an electronic album entirely recorded on a boat (a 1950’s boat no less). I’m sure I saw a satirical tweet along similar lines recently… Anyhow, whether or not you can hear the sea air in the filter sweeps, II delivers lots of richly-textured synth fun. On Efficient Space.

I-LP-ON
ÄÄNET

He’s half of reputable and influential Finnish electronic agitators Pan Sonic, the other half being the late Mika Vainio. He’s the Finno- bit in Finno-German duo Angel, the -German bit being Dirk “Schneider™” Dresselhaus. They call him Ilpo Väisänen. He especially likes Viennese labels (such as Editions Mego and Kvitnu). This new one for Editions Mego recalls and commemorates Pan Sonic with Väisänen’s own contemporary flair and style - industrial, dub and club in a minimal form quite unlike anything else.

Pauline Anna Strom
Trans-Millenia Music

The last few years have seen the rediscovery of a lot of music that had been unjustly neglected due to association with the New Age tag. The work of Pauline Anna Strom is a prime example: though driven by highly subjective cosmic concepts, her ambient but melodic music transcends crystals’n’yoga cliché. Losing her sight in childhood didn’t prevent her digging deep into the arcane complexities of synths such as the Yamaha DX7. Hers is a verdant, varied and exploratory soundworld, and her compositions display meticulousness and rigour. This double LP (or single CD) comp is drawn from a trio of 80s albums. Recommended for fans of Suzanne Ciani, Popol Vuh and Klaus Schulze.

The Bug

Kevin Martin’s beloved project The Bug has teamed up with one Burro Banton, a fine and flowing Jamaican DJ. Zim Zim Zim has caused mad drama in live sets, but wasn’t on last album Angels & Devils, so this red 12” is the way to go if you want it. And you do. Etching on the B-side, on Ninja Tune.

John Duncan & Joachim Nordwall
Conventional Wisdom

Conventional Wisdom is most certainly dark ambient. Where most ambient is for relaxing, music like this is for, well, unsettling. Sparse instrumentation creeps its way down your spine as nasty, growled vocals bear down on you. Collaboration between John Duncan and Joachim Nordwall. On iDEAL Recordings.

Synkro
Images

My word how often did I listen to that last Synkro album Changes? Too many times. One of the nicest tracks on it was one of the most ambient so it's encouraging to see him veer into more ambient territories for this new LP. Like many Joe McBride has become immersed in vintage synths and explores them fully here. Could be a good one this.

Black To Comm
Before After

Black To Comm rapidly follows up in Seven Horses For Seven Kings with new sound-suite Before After, which was written during the same sessions but take the Comm sound into different, somewhat more positive-feeling territory. Don’t worry though, the depth of field and range of texture and the sheer sonic power of Black To Comm is very much still in place. On Thrill Jockey.

The Cyclist
Sapa Inca Delirium

Lo-fi house throbber and presumed cyclist The Cyclist (one Andrew Morrison) puts on the exotica hat for this one. Sapa Inca Delirium explores South American mysticism for its narrative and visual imagery. The album ranges between dreamlike downtempo (‘Antiexist’) and big, smoggy thumpers (‘Inhale/Exhale’, which features Tanaya Harper).

The Future Sound Of London
Yage 2019

Yage 2019 is an exciting new Record Store Day release from The Future Sound Of London. Veteran fans of the 90’s rave legends will already know the record’s title track given that it first showed up towards the back end of FSoL’s 1996 LP Dead Cities. Here we see the group taking the original and manipulating it into eleven original tracks. Don’t think of Yage 2019 as a remix album - this is very much a record in its own right.

Zahn / Hatami / McClure
Ypsilon

Your favourite ambient love triangle is back: Darren McClure, Porya Hatami and Uwe “Arovane” Zahn have worked together, singly and in duos of every possible combination many times by now. And here they are, up to their soothing old tricks again. Here they broaden the textured dronescope a bit to incorporate unobtrusive beats and melodic sequences.

Netherlands-based Suzanne Kraft (a bloke named Diego, by the way) previously spotted on pal Jonny Nash’s label Melody as Truth label and now on No 'Label' with another LP. U KNO reproduces material performed live last year, ranging all sorts from woozy interludes and ambient dreamscapes to rather blazed ‘n’ wonky sampletronica.

Rhythm & Sound w/ Tikiman
Music A Fe Rule

Under the name Rhythm & Sound, Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus finally saw the opportunity to showcase and develop their love for reggae. For Music a Fe Rule, they combined their affinity with dub techno (as the legendary duo Basic Channel) with the laid-back patois of Tikiman, aka Paul St. Hilaire. Classic reissue, coming straight from 1997.

Rhythm & Sound
Trace

Arguably one of my favourite press releases: 'Trace 9:00, Imprint 16:24'. Completely lacking any information whilst simultaneously giving you all the  information you need. Track name and when it's on. Brilliant. Trace is the heavy electronic and ambient release from Rhythm & Sound that's available on vinyl 12" and released on Rhythm & Sound.

Rhythm & Sound
Carrier

Rhythm & Sound’s hard-to-find dub techno smash hit (as far as dub techno has smash hits, of course) finally back on wax. One of eight releases by Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, better known as Basic Channel, under the R&S moniker. Carrier is classic EP for anybody who loves dub techno, dub reggae, and/or tape hiss, and it still sounds fresh.

E.R.P.
Afterimage

Dallas based electro musician Gerard Hanson also known as Convextion also known as E.R.P. is releasing his debut album under that last pseudonym. The eight tracks here on Afterimage feature the deep Detroit style electro he's known for as well as the strings he's loved for. Double LP on Forgotten Futures.

Shabason / Gunning
Muldrew

Joseph Shabason and Ben Gunning, known here as Shabason / Gunning left the hustle and bustle of the city for Lake Ontario. They holed up in a cabin with their equipment (synths, saxes, guitars, drum machines) to make Muldrew. The result is a cinematic musical escape to the rural idylls of Canada inspired by John Martyn and the fourth worldism of Jon Hassell.

SK U KNO (Suzanne Kraft)
NUMERO U KNO

Absolutely killer three-track from Suzanne Kraft’s SK U KNO alter-ego here. NUMERO U KNO kicks off with the barnstorming ‘Shopbeat’, a track that sounds like a first-wave grime instrumental cross-bred with something by Special Request. Expect the thing to tear the roof off the club when it gets dropped. RAMZi drops by to help out with the wistful deep house jam ‘Founded (SK Mix)’, and NUMERO U KNO closes out with the humid, D Tiffany-style cut ‘Accelerate Me Wildly (Middlesex Edit)’. Wicked.

Gwakasonné
Vwayajé

A double-LP memorialising the great Roger Oumaou, the Guadaloupe-born avant-jazz musician who passed away in 2018, Vwayajé collects the best of the three albums he recorded with Gwakasonné in the Eighties - Gwakasonné, Temwen, and Moun. Their music was a hypnotic blend of American jazz styles and sounds from Guadaloupe itself.

Pugilist
Blue 06

Pugilist is next up on Whities’ Blue Series, a run that has already seen entries from artists like upsammy and BFTT. The trio of atmospheric rollers that Pugilist offers up on Blue 06 combine D Tiffany’s hazed house sound with some breakbeat techno stylings. There is an impressive attention to detail in the drum programming of cuts like ‘Encrypted’ and ‘Descendant’. Blue 06 is another winner from Nic Tasker’s excellent imprint.

North Manc Beds
GazOhmEater EP

North Manc Beds. What a name that is. As is GazOhmEater EP. I won't pretend to know what that means. Their music though, is like techno with a sense of humour. Crunchy and fun and filled with little thoughtful touches that show they know what they're doing. Inspired by the Pennines, and all the sounds they contain.

The Anti Group
4 X 12

4 X 12 is a rejigged version of TAG/The Anti Group’s 1994 compilation Audiophile. As with Audiophile, 4 X 12 assembles a selection of the band’s seminal 80's outre-punk/avant-garde/industrial experimentations. It acts as both a fine introduction for those looking to get into The Anti Group and also a good refresher for those wishing to reconnect. Where 4 X 12 differs from Audiophile is in a set of exclusive tunes that include two remixes at the end of the record. For related artists you’re looking at Throbbing Gristle, Guerilla Welfare and 23 Skidoo.

Gramm (Jan Jelinek)
Personal Rock

This is the debut album of Gramm, aka Jan Jelinek, two decades old this year. Personal Rock is not rock, it is luscious loop-based night-time cool-party music, made with delicious electronics. This material is a bit more forward in its beats and house stylings than Jelinek’s better-known work, but it is still gorgeously subtle. Reissued on vinyl by Fatiche.

Sâd Hu
Aghori

Sâd Hu is the collaborative project from Manuel Peraud and Francis Ferguson. The duo have known each other for years and with Aghori finally come together. The result is heavy and droning, with a focus on texture that draws from Peraud's visual practice. Ferguson's years as a techno producer clearly also came in handy.

Patrick Cowley
Muscle Up

Check this out friends: Muscle Up is a collection of Patrick Cowley’s soundtracks to gay porn films. The tracks, crafted out of synths and hand-built equipment, are at once sleazy and remarkably experimental, sliding slickly between ambience and funk. Double LP packaged with sexy posters on Dark Entries / Honey Soundsystem.

Matt Karmil
IDLE033

Matt Karmil originally envisioned just one of these tracks to be released on Idle Hands, but the label loved everything that they heard, so decided to put out the lot. With that in mind, IDLE033 flows very well over 2 LPs, deftly moving in and out of dancefloor modes, always with an interesting quirk to the production. Fresh and exciting stuff.

Akiko Haruna
Delusions

Japanese artist Akiko Haruna’s background is in dance rather than music, making her sonic structures fluid, unstable and always shifting. Muslimgauze
Babylon Is Iraq

Further discoveries from the super-extensive archives of Muslimgauze. Babylon Is Iraq presents a previously unheard extended fifteen minute version of classic 1996 compilation track ‘Kaliskinazure’, along with a different approach to some of the same territory (‘Momada’) and two shorter contemporary cuts. Great material, and great further insight into a track many Gauze fans already love.

Ok, so it’s the depths of winter here and in Rolando Simmons native Sweden, but that’s not put him off trying to remind us that the sun does occasionally shine. Summer Diary One EP is the producer’s first recording for Analogical Force and is equipped with enough melody and punchy bass grooves to make us feel like it’s summer once again. 5-track 12” EP on Analogical Force.

Davy Kehoe
The Pilot

Davy Kehoe’s 2017 release Short Passing Game was a dance release made with the heart of Neu! or Suicide - though judging by the amped-up speed this was a heart undergoing rapid palpitations. The speed on The Pilot is not quite as physically alarming, but the synergy of styles is just as potent, resembling a stretched out band jam as much as any electronic release.

Antoni Maiovvi
Housewife (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Berlin based producer Antoni Maiovvi, who also goes under the names Pleasure Model and Ketsueki Sakuru, has worked on soundtracks before (Abdullah, Yellow). But for Can Evrenol’s horror Housewife, Maiovvi takes a massive step away from his Italio-synth-disco inspired production and provides an eerie and hellish orchestrated backing. But of course, he’s done a disco mix of the title track for good measure.

Decadance
On And On (Fears Keep On)

Mmmm, delightful ‘dark italo’ from 1983 Italy. Decadence’s one and only release is the vital cut On And On (Fears Keep On), and it can still move a suitably-inclined dancefloor to this day. The Mannequin label here present a reissue of this fine track, freshly remastered and accompanied by its Dub version on the B-side. 12”.

PBK
Thinking of Eternity

PBK is Phillip B. Klingler - perhaps best known for his prolific run of noise tapes since the 1980s. He recorded the original album Thinking Of Eternity in 1998 in tribute to German electronic trailblazers, Cluster. The music was made using a whole host of Yamaha, Roland and Korg synths and sequencers. The project was shelved until recently in lieu of his Dreams In Moving Space collaboration with Russian composer, Artemiev. It was finally brought out of hiding and mastered by Martin Bowes in 2017.
