Tom Ware
Tom Ware

Smoking hot 80s boogie rarity alert! Dark Entries have really come up trumps here, digging out the supremely desirable 1983 album from cult synth operator Tom Ware. This is bold, razor sharp machine music that stands up to contemporary electro with staggering confidence – in another universe this would have been a formative album for the likes of DMX Krew and every other electro aficionado.

Dave Clarke
The Desecration of Desire

Heeeeeee’s back folks! Yes, its Dave Clarke, the big-style techno producer, returning with his first album for fourteen years. And it's an interesting one, reflecting various interests beyond techno that Dave has been honing over the years, including new wave, industrial and noise. Lots of voices turn up on The Desecration Of Desire, with guest vocalists including Mark Lanegan, Anika and Gazelle Twin. On Skint.

IAMX
Unfall

Founding member of Sneaker Pimps left to concentrate on his solo project IAMX in 2003 and is now releasing his ninth full length. Unfall is dark, glitchy, techno inspired, and nearing industrialised in its cold synthetics. Ghost in the machine stuff that’ll drag you through a cold future. LP on Orphic.

Perturbator
New Model

The forlorn legacy of Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack sinks ever deeper into the world of Gen-Y EDM acrobatics, courtesy of Perturbator, an artist to whom the slightest restraint must seem an exceptionally old-fashioned notion. On New Model, the Parisian offers up six cuts of hyperbolically sour cybergrapes, packed to the gills with multiple tempos, motifs and interludes. Aggressive, edgy, dropstep electronica for cyberpunk parties.

Becker & Mukai
Eyes

On 'Eyes', Becker and Mukai turn their attention to towards a clean, sparsely populated form of psychedelic techno, pulling in elements of krautrock, ritual music, acid house and electronica. Both producers have numerous other projects, but this collaboration represents them on an exploratory journey together.

Hologram Teen
Marsangst

Hologram Teen is the new project of former Stereolab keyboard player Morgane Lhote. Marsangst/Hex These Rules mashes together motorik electronica and disco. Fans of acts such as Add N To X, Death In Vegas, Stereolab, Ghost Box Recordings, Deadmau5, Yello, ESG and French house are likely to dig this.

Fantastic Twins
Obakodomo

The Twins (as they were previously known) have got a little self confidence and are now Fantastic Twins. Good for ‘em. Here’s their debut LP out on Optimo Music. Obakodomo is composed as a soundtrack to a contemporary dance performance done by dancers for an audience of toddlers. It’s a transportative soundtrack of playful, frightening and strange sounds.

WK569
Omaggio a Marino Zuccheri

Founded ten years ago by Federico Troncatti, Ezio Martinazzi and Pier Enrico Villa, WK569 was established as a kind of real-time experiment in sonic architecture and alternative methods of music construction. This single-sided 12” record Omaggio a Marino Zuccheri is a tribute to pioneering sound engineer Marino Zuccheri.

Lee Gamble
Mnestic Pressure

Lee Gamble’s first full-length in three years is a record of nuanced edge-of-the-dancefloor music that finds a fitting home on Hyperdub. Gamble describes Mnestic Pressure as a record that seeks to find order in an increasingly chaotic world and regain a sense of self separate from the images one is constantly subject to in 2017. This manifests itself as an album of aquatic electronica and Burial-esque post-rave stylings.

Circa 2000
Thoughts In Vias

William Wiffen brings us his debut album as Circa 2000. Think of Depeche Mode meeting Roosevelt to groove on the Autobahn toward analogue heaven. It’s cheeky as hell and twice as funky, slick and warm electro for city nights. LP released on Central Processing Unit’s subsidiary Computer Club.

2 Katara
Break At Home

The search engine results for 2 Katara are split between this musical project and one particular luxury yacht, a nonsensical thing that somehow feels like it makes sense while you listen to the weird fractured music on Break At Home. Strange, amateurish new-agey synth-pop mixes with confusing samples, delicate acoustic guitar and other unknowns. Mysterious double LP on Into The Light.

Repetentes 2008
Boulderball

Brazilian producer Gabriel Guerra (Japa Habilidoso) returns to Future Times as Repetentes 2008. Citing influence from game soundtracks, Cesar Camargo Mariano and unnaturally sped music, Boulderball is high octane glistening synth-led disco funk, groovy but pitched at +3. Features a collaboration with Will DiMaggio.

Craig Armstrong & Scott Fraser
Rosa Morta

Rosa Morta, a new vinyl version of the 2016 album by Craig Armstrong & Scott Fraser previously only out as a CD. The duo deliberately constricted themselves to electronics rather than acoustic strings for the recording, with electric bass and piano adding punch and range. The tracks have a sense of immediacy and improvisation; each was worked on for a day with no fussing. A stripped-down approach to which listeners can relate.

Coil
Live In Moscow

In 2001 the English avant-industrial icons Coil performed for the very first time in Moscow and, rather predictably, Live In Moscow captures this intense and confrontational performance which draws from music produced across their 30 year career. Continuing their amazing run of lesser known Coil reissues Feelee unleash this set on CD.

Off World
2

Off World got off to a flying start last year with I, a record released as part of a trilogy of electronic works on Constellation echoing back to their Musique Fragile Series. Featuring avant-folk artist Sandro Perri, the group's record offered beguiling instrumental twists that sounded like vintage coming back to life; the roster appears to have changed here, Perri joined by the likes of labelmate Eric Chenaux as well as Matthew Cooper, Susumu Mukai and others.

Visionist
Value

Big Grime buddy Visionist is putting out a new record on Big Dada. Barely taking a breath after late 2015's Safe, Louis Carnell has produced another study in vulnerability, this time approaching themes of machismo and effeminacy rather than safety and anxiety. Oh, and between the beats you might even spot the vocals of Visionist himself.

Million Brazilians
Red Rose and Obsidian

Red Rose and Obsidian is the 12th album by Portland, Oregon’s Million Brazilians. The band were formed in 2006 and despite an ever-changing cast of supporting musicians the band’s core members Grant Corum and Suzanne Stone have remained ever-present. The album was recorded in Maine by Caleb Mulkerin of Big Blood. Both band and producer were inspired by the rocky coastline and lapping waves. They utilised sax, flutes, electronics and Stone’s voice create a mournful work underpinned by rock rhythms.

Wojciech Golczewski
The Signal

Prolific soundtrack reissuers Death Waltz continue their series of original works with Wojciech Golczewski’s The Signal, the second installment of his proposed trilogy. Only the Grains of Love Remain

Posh Isolation co-founder Christian Stadsgaard brings his Vanity Productions project out once more for an exploration of icy synthetic dread and wayward sound processing. Aphex Twin
Syro

Well we'll be blowed. The threats have actually finally come true. Aphex Twin's first proper new studio album for Warp since the divisive confused bulk of 2001's 'Drukqs' is due towards the end of September 2014. The artwork is quasi-cryptic and minimal as you can see. What the material will sound like is the stuff of many an "IDM" fanboy/girl's social networking dreams. What we do know is that this is the most exciting news in electronic music we've heard since the deluge of Analord material for his own Rephlex that seems like many, many moons ago. Yes, he could have written it on his laptop in the bog last month or yes, it could be archive stuff more than a decade old. Will there be a "Windowlicker" on there? Whatever, we can surmise all we like but this is literally amazing news for his countless fanatical devotees around the globe and is bound to hold some surprises.

Oliver Coates
Upstepping

Oliver Coates is an acclaimed contemporary cellist, and yet this album sounds like a fully-fledged modern electronic dance record. Believe it or not, almost every single sound on Upstepping was originally derived from Coates’ cello, who then applied an absolute ton of processing to make this club friendly set of experimental bangers. On Prah Recordings.

Skinny Puppy
Remission

As well as the fact that cEvin key found a unique and innovative way of spelling Kevin, Skinny Puppy were musically innovative too fusing bits of new wave, techno and film noir into a sample based industrial racket. This is their debut missive and has now been re-unleashed on vinyl for the first time in 25 years.

Skinny Puppy
Bites

'Bites' was the second missive from industrial music clatterers Skinny Puppy. They fused all kinds of musics including new wave and film noir with innovative ahead of it's time sampling. This one contains their first underground hit 'Assimilate' and is now available on vinyl for the first time in over 25 years.

Time Attendant
Ruby Modifier

Commonly found lurching around labels like More Than Human and Exotic Pylon, Time Attendant is a dab hand at fusing disparate sound sources into a disorientating audio mulch as loaded with nutrients as it is messy. New album Ruby Modifier comes in highly limited quantities on Ancient Neighbour, packaging errant excursions through synth strokes and found sounds in a glorious high-res sleeve.

Bicep
Aura

Oh look, Bicep's releasing on Ninja Tune, how exciting! It would have been more exciting had they given us a press release but mystery will have to do. Expect some kind of jacking house business that'll be equally at home in the earbuds of a gym bro or pounding out of a Funktion One club system. Or at Scruff's tea tent. Or on your mantelpiece - there's an etching on the B side, you betcha.

Willie Gibson
Vivaldi: Seasons Change

Willie Gibson is an electronic music composer working in the wilds of Cambridgeshire. He spent a year recreating one of the most popular pieces of classical music - Vivaldi's Le Quattro Stagioni - using a modular synthesizer. Gibson transcribed each element of the score into MIDI, built each instrument sound from scratch and recorded the parts track by track as audio, re-patching the modular synth each time. Literally an unrepeatable process. In the spirit of earlier vintage/futuristic adaptations of classical music (e.g. Wendy Carlos) but also via Kraftwerk, modern chiptune and even the same robot seed that produced The Who's Baba O'Reilly, Gibson has given the mathematical beauty of these pieces a bright new makeover.

IIVII
Invasion

Josh Graham is an all-rounder, dipping toes in all pies. Previously a guitarist in Red Sparrowes, visual artist for Neurosis and currently in Battle Of Mice and A Storm Of Light. Invasion is his second solo outing as IIVII which is dark ambient seems set to a post apocalyptic alternate future. Think John Carpenter injected with Graham’s post metal influences.

Having moved to Berlin in 2007, Steffi became a resident at Panorama Bar and soon began to release on the club’s label; Ostgut Ton. Memnon Sa
Lemurian Dawn

London-based sonic maven Misha Hering (also known as Among The Bones) makes a stylistic leap with his second album as Memnon Sa, moving on from the doom metal growl of Citadel to embrace a formidable arsenal of analogue synthesisers as the fuel for his wall of sound ruminations. With broad, tumbling set pieces to unleash his banks of fuzzy oscillations across, this is as brooding and bombastic an update on the prog tradition as you’re likely to get.

Shanti Celeste resides in Bristol but hails from Chile, giving her potential ties to some very weighty scenes indeed. After recent releases for Secretsundaze and Future Times, SSS lands on the Apron label. Celeste’s original shuffler is backed by a tantalisingly-titled ‘90’s Cut’ remix from Funkineven. A powerful 12”.

Simfonica
Letters In Time

‘Letters in Time’ is an art concept release from Simfonica that has so far been unavailable to buy in its complete form due to apparent political content on two of the tracks. Despite heaping much praise on the project – “You have created a very brilliant sound there… It is amazing to experience how you combine audible and visual aesthetics in order to illustrate your reflection of the individual topics…” etc. – the German label concerned told Simfonica, “I am hesitating to release the DVD. The reasons are the topics MLK and World War I. Political content and context is something that I really want to keep away from the label.” Maybe it reflects an understandable German sensitivity, but the suggestion that the content should be re-defined or restricted only adds to the suspense and eeriness of this audio/visual release from Simfonica. The full ‘Letters In Time’ DVD is now presented by TM Studios.

Trickfinger
II

Since leaving The Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante has been working way more on his electronics, releasing through labels like Acid Test. However he had been doing this stuff for a while. These are the second set of tracks to be released from his original ventures as Trickfinger. Just him and a load of sequencers and synths, jamming until he presses record, with no over dubs. Recorded in 2007. Sounds close to Aphex Twin on an acid tip.

Lali Puna
Two Windows

Lali Puna are back after a seven year gap which saw the departure of founding member Markus Acher. The others seem to be continuing in a business-as-usual like manner though with an album of lush and focused electronica. There's guests too including DNTEL's Jimmy Tamborello and harpist Mary Lattimore.

GAS
Narkopop

Well what do we have here then? Following on from that enormous box set of his greatest work of 20 years vintage, Wolfgang Voigt re-ignites his Gas project with a new album which, though it continues the thick foggy sonics of earlier work introduces dense and sometimes atonal sonics to the magical mist with that pulsing kick drum as always ever present.

Benni
I & II

Benni is the latest guise of Ben McCullough of Wizzard Sleeve/Heavy Lids/Natural Child. This solo outing is focused firmly on imagines sci-fi soundtracks and with 80’s electro pulse. With cited influences being Vangelis, John Carpenter and arcade games I & II is an epic journey from cinematic soundscapes to high energy chase music.

Penguin Cafe & Cornelius
Umbrella EP

Originally put on a short release in 2015, after completing the new Penguin Cafe album, Erased Tapes have repackaged this EP made with Japanese musician/producer Cornelius for record store day. Featuring two collaborative tracks and each party remixing one of the other’s tracks. Hypnotic blends of world music, neo-classical and electronics.

High Boys
Dead Zones

Two members of Skull Defekts, Jean-Louis Huhta and Joachim Nordwall, peel off to form High Boys for this deliciously twisted EP Dead Zones. As suggested by the cartoon on the front cover, this is music designed for fans of all things darkly psychedelic - old school acid house and industrial sub-genres are the key influences.

Jason van Wyk
Attachment

If you’re after pretty much perfect relaxation and harmony, look no further than Attachment by Jason van Wyk. The record could send you to sleep, or into deep thought, or maybe even into deep space. A blend of electronic sounds, strings and piano compliment each other so well in this release. Available on CD on Home Normal.

Timothy Fife
Black Carbon

New on Death Waltz and severely limited is this three track solo LP from Timothy Fife. He's obviously deeply in thrall to the atmospheric synth lines as previously explored by the likes of Vangelis and Tangerine Dream.  These intense and hard edged synth pieces would be perfect soundtracking the sort of 80s horror movie where someone is running away from someone/something.

Zomby
GASP!

Hot on the heels of his impressive 'Ultra' album this three tracker from Zomby explores a more hardware driven sound, eschewing saturation and overdubbing in lieu of a relentless barrage of breaks and beats that is said to fit somewhere between a darkened dance floor and a chugging factory. We think we know what he means.

Norin
Reflekterar

These Posh Isolation types are busy people: Hannes Norrvide is the sole force behind Norin, but he also collaborates with others in projects like Kyo and Lust For Youth. Reflekterar shows off an acid-industrial sound with a dark bite to it: will go down well with fans of Denmark’s finest, the Posh Isolation label. 3 track 12”.

Videodrones
Nattens Hævn

The Danish duo of Videodrones release their 2nd album in the form of ‘Nattens Hævn’, which delves even further into their realm of improvised synth. Taking inspiration from many Italian composers like Riz Ortolani and others, this new album puts a new found insanity on their unique style of music. ’Nattens Hævn’ wriggles as it plays, the album fluctuates with emotions, and will you draw you in to their world of madness.

Mana
Creature EP

You may know Mana from another life. He used to release as Vaghe Stelle, and he remains part of the lauded One Circle group. That said, he’s now looking to strip away any artifice and confront himself through music, hence the change of moniker. The music on Creature is dense, claustrophobic electronica in the vein of producers like Arca and Fatima Al Qadiri.

Earlham Mystics
Waters EP

Waters is a four-track EP from Earlham Mystics. It can only be described as a collection of head-heavy beats and repetitive notes played on a variety of differing electronic instruments. The record feels like it could be in any smokey underground and late night club as you get lost in the rhythmic soundscapes. This EP is available on Vinyl 12” and is released on Notown.

The Future Sound Of London
Environment Six

Future Sound Of London’s Environments series began in 1993, though without any releases seeing the light of day till 2008. They haven’t stopped generating Environments though, not by a long shot: they now present a pair of new records (released separately) that map out some deep electronic territory with the attention to detail typical of FSOL. Environment Six is released by Jumpin’ & Pumpin’.

Mike & Rich
Expert Knob Twiddlers

Mike & Rich is Mike Paradinas (aka µ-Ziq) and Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin): you can see the pair of them grinning away on the cover there. This material dates from the mid-90’s and the approach is playful: fun-time groovy electronics as well as the beat-mangling blasts you might expect. This 2CD or 3LP reissue of Expert Knob Twiddlers even has some bonus tracks and alternate versions added!

Cirque De La Musique

This eleven track LP has eleven tracks from eleven different artists. A novel idea but they’re surely onto something. Cirque de la Musique is a mix of chillout piano solos, lo-fi electronics, ambient soundscapes and gentle acoustic instrumentation. Compiled by m.o.I Records, the LP is limited to 100 copies and has tracks from artists including Bruno Rodenbach, Bloomypedal, Like A Tim and Bangkok Impact.

New Order Presents Be Music

Be Music is the umbrella name for the various extracurricular activities that the individual members of New Order got up to in their time away from the band. This overview release, spanning the whole course of the band’s existence, compiles twelve tracks on the double vinyl edition and thirty-six tracks on the triple CD edition.

Public Service Broadcasting
Live at Brixton

Documented for posterity is the time some guys threw a load of samples over some so-so post rock and called it good. But something very remarkable indeed happened. Lots of people actually liked these vignettes and subsequently poured into the Brixton Academy to watch it all performed live. You can now re-live the sights, the sounds and the smells as the band rocked the Academy to it's very foundations in an event that has in some circles been compared to the time the Beatles rocked Shea Stadium.

Masayoshi Fujita and Guy Andrews
Needle Six

Phil thinks Guy Andrews was the guy who sang that cover of 'Mad World' but I think he's hopelessly wrong. Guy Andrews in instead a London based producer and here he has collaborated on a live BBC 'Late Junction' session with Japanese vibraphone player Masayoshi Fujita. It has now been released on a very limited 12" to make your Record Store Day just that little bit more improvised.

Paranerd
Silktrops

Somewhere between the slick and tight production of The Black Dog, the summer filled electronica of Plaid and Paranerd cites indie pop-rockers The Super Friendz as a major influence. Mixing delightful pop melodies with all hardware upbeat electronica and a dash of early detroit techno. Released through Touched, in support of the Macmillan Cancer charity.

Jega
1995

Jega has been in the electronic scene from the mid ‘90s, having released albums on PLANET MU and here on Skam Records. He’s always produced warm, slowly pulsating electro and on this album, 1995, we return to the beginning with a collection of previously unreleased tracks from his debut. It’s a genuine slice of 1990’s electro and a gripping one at that.

Carsten Jost
Perishable Tactics

David Lieske has been keeping himself busy with various activities, but it’s been a colossal amount of time since he last released a full-length under his Carsten Jost moniker (2000!). Perishable Tactics combines brand new material with a few previously issued limited-release cuts, with the whole thing meshing together into a sterling example of agitated house music. CD / double LP release on Dial.

Eyes Of Glass

Dark Entries present a much needed, official remastered reissue of this much sought after and bootlegged Italo Disco gem from Fabrizio Chiari (ex-keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari. Originally released in 1982 it still sounds glorious some 34 years later. Includes a double-sided postcard with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Italo Diso legend Flemming Dalum.
