Paula Temple
Edge Of Everything

We’ve been waiting a fair while for this one. Paula Temple has been releasing high-grade techno EPs since the early 2000’s, but Edge Of Everything is the first LP from the self-styled ‘noisician’. It’s an uncompromising set of harsh electronics and pounding, industrial body music that is occasionally offset by moments of stark beauty - see ambient piece ‘Don’t Use Your Eyes Now’ on this count. Think Surgeon and Ellen Allien.

DJ Guy
UNTHANK 12

A dive into the expansive vaults of Cardiff producer and artist DJ Guy on the Unthanks imprint. 12” EP UNTHANK 12 selects six off-cut tracks made between 1993 and 1995, and although the  dancefloor is very much in mind, they also evoke the acid-drenched soundscapes that have garnered Guy such a cult following.

Service Animal / Crime Unit
RAVE026

RAVE026 brings some rare DIY tape release material into the respectable, DJ-friendly territory of vinyl. This is a split between Service Animal (head of Endangered Species) who provides some wild gabber workouts, and Crime Unit, who gets heavily scuzzed-up. Real nasty dancing fuel on The Death of Rave.

Humanoid
Built By Humanoid

Before Future Sounds of London, there was Humanoid. Known for their classic acid house single 'Stakker Humanoid', Humanoid will release an album a mere 30 years after they burst onto the scene. Fast, frantic, and beat driven, 'Built By Humanoid' merges the old and new to create an acid monster.

Nicolas Bougaïeff
On The Grid

Canadian DJ/producer Nicolas Bougaïeff has been turning heads with his Berghain bangers for a couple of years now, and new EP On The Grid sees one of the hottest prospects in techno come through with another outstanding set of tunes. Cuts like ‘Eden Configuration’ and ‘Skyscraper Model’ are reminiscent of Ellen Allien and Paula Temple, while On The Grid’s title track is the sort of dystopian jack one associates with labels like Super Rhythm Trax. Great stuff.

Earthen Sea
Grass and Trees

Jacob Long - a man also known as Earthen Sea and someone who looks like Warren Ellis if he’d started out on synths instead of fiddles - returns to Kranky with new LP Grass And Trees. Long states that his aim with these compositions was to simplify and declutter his practice, and that sense of order really benefits this record. The tracks of Grass And Trees pull back from dub techno until only the ambiences remain, kind of like early Nicolas Jaar with even fewer beats.

Robag Wruhme returns to Pampa for the first time in eight years. On Venq Tolep, the Belgian producer draws on influences far and wide including R&B, two-step and ambient. More than anything, Venq Tolep represents a desire to make those influence 'pop'. Wruhme also invited vocalist Lysann Zander to work with him again.

Copenhagener YWF serves up a pair of choons for fellow Danes Echocord. These are balanced on the flip by two remixes from the artist’s chums over at Berlin’s Freund Der Familie. YWF goes for crisp-rhythmed dub (‘Replaced’) and commuter train anxiety (‘All is Temporary’) while FDF keep it lush and minimal (‘Fdf’s Reshape’) as well as modulation-mad (‘Fdf’s Days of Doom Remix’).

Fret
Salford Priors + Versions

Fret is of course Mick Harris, the relentlessly productive heaviness-maestro behind Napalm Death, Painkiller, Scorn… and now this. Salford Priors + Versions presents five different assaults on the track Salford Priors, put forward by Harris himself, Monster X, Stormfield, and Monster X and Stormfield together. Serious stuff mate.

Kölsch
fabric Presents: Kölsch

Kompakt favourite Kölsch turns in a set of all-new material on his fabric Presents volume. All the tracks here are named after flights he’s taken between shows, and as such there is an intercontinental flavour to the Danish producer’s brand of techno. fabric Presents: Kölsch runs to around an hour of chunky beats and melodious synths - think Âme and Ben Klock.

Matias Aguayo
Support Alien Invasion

Chilean/German artist Matias Aguayo’s last album was The Visitor in 2013. About the only rule with this chap is that there will be dancing, and this by no means guarantees 4/4 rhythms. In fact, Support Alien Invasion seems dead keen to slip around and between typical time signatures. Aguayo’s impressive success lies in navigating this tricky minimal terrain without losing grip of the party or resembling too closely his stern, clanking German associates.

Terence Fixmer
The Swarm EP

Terence Fixmer is back on NovaMute for his latest EP. The Swarm, features the first tracks Fixmer made with his Roland System 100, allowing him to create something that is just as pure in its intent as it is its execution. Minimal techno of the sort that recalls Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann. As inventive as always.

Carl Craig
Detroit Love Vol. 2

After kicking off his Detroit Love series with a mix from Stacey Pullen, head-honcho Carl Craig is the one who steps up to bat this time around. Detroit Love Vol. 2 goes two ways depending on what format you pick. The CD is a mix that features some of Craig’s favourite tunes both old and new - rare gems from the likes of Ectomorph sit alongside cuts by Octave One, Mr. G and Craig himself. Eight of the choicest morsels make it to vinyl in their full, unmixed form - this includes exclusives from Claude Von Stroke and C2/DJ Minx as well as first-time-in-ages vinyl outings for Ectomorph and Rhythim Is Rhythim.

Atsushi Izumi
Verdigris EP

Osaka based Atsushi Izumi knows how to channel his background in sound design into creating truly potent and destructive techno. Just as capable of using drawn out synths to create tension, as he is in using noisy, fractured drums to detonate said tension. Verdigris EP is pain and pleasure and released by Thrènes Records.

D.K.
Riding For A Fall

Riding For A Fall is the second D.K. release on Antinote in quick succession. This EP picks up where March’s Mystic Warrior left off. ‘Voices’ and ‘Shoubuari (Battle)’ are both high-energy deep house tracks that incorporate Balearic pads and arpeggio-melodies. The effect is of a Music From Memory drop played slightly too fast. Riding For A Fall rounds out with its title track, a slow and dubby delight that now sounds like a Music From Memory drop played slightly too slow.

His sophomore LP Morphic Dreams finds Adriani back on Stroboscopic Artefacts (Efdemin, L.B. Dub Corp) and running his usual gauntlet of electro, minimal wave, industrial techno and Gothic post-punk.

Tracey
Biostar

Vowelophobe Tracey releases his debut album Biostar on Dial (also of Lawrence, Roman Flugel and Efdemin). On it the Netherlands-based producer explores the aesthetics of acid, without committing to its over bearing heaviness. The result is fascinating, acid bass that seems to float in the air, completely untethered.

Pepe Bradock
What a Mess!

Pepe Bradock has titled his latest What a Mess!, presumably referring to the complex and aleatoric construction process behind the record. Random words, spontaneous frequencies, a deconstruction / reconstruction of Pepe’s old first record, and tweaked computer improvisations… All this and more has ended up with these two sides of vinyl, accompanied by visuals and words which you are encouraged to use to draw connections out of the music, should you wish. What a Mess!

Justin Cudmore returns to The Bunker New York (Donato Dozzy, Marco Shuttle) with a long-awaited drop. The East Coast acid joint ‘Are You Ready’ has been doing the rounds for a few years now, becoming a secret weapon for DJs like Gerd Janson and Craig Richards in the process. Now, finally, you too can get your hands on it. On the Are You Ready EP the tune comes backed with remixes from Bunker buddies Derek Plaslaiko and Gunnar Haslam.

Factory Floor
A Soundtrack For A Film

Factory Floor are a band preoccupied mostly with the post-industrial world; with technology, with art's modernist mode -- with Futurism, in fact -- so it was almost inevitable that, if they were to create a film score it would be for something as visionary as Fritz Lang's forever lauded cinema masterpiece, the silent sci-fi classic Metropolis (1927). A brand new score, 'A Soundtrack To A Film' was first performed by Gabe and Nik at London's Science Museum last year and it's quite long -- 2.5 hours long -- hence the double-CD and 4xLP boxset variants (including colour vinyl). Can't wait to get stuck in to this.
