Nexus 21
The Rhythm of Life

Despite going on to make some legendary 12” EPs, this was the electronic duo’s only full length album. It was originally released on Blue Chip before Network snapped them up. The Lotus Eaters
Desatura

Please be very very careful. This is not the 1980s Lotus Eaters famous for their 'First Picture of You' single. Instead these are two techno artists Lucy and Rrose. Here the two step away from the usual techno instrumentation and use synthesized sound and feedback to generate both textural and percussive elements to their music.

James Ruskin
Point 2

Just short of two decades since its initial release, James Ruskin's 'Point 2' is reissued - re-energising the catchy loops and crispy drums that captured hearts back in the early naughties, with a couple of previously unreleased tracks thrown in to boot. It's a hard slab of pure techno, inspired by the minimal Detroit sound and influential in the UK underground.

The 4th Wave
Attention Please

Short-lived techno act The 4th Wave may not have lasted for very long, but their legacy of two EPs - 1995’s Touched for Carl Craig’s label Planet E and the following year’s Attention Please for Kirk Degiorgio’s Op-Art imprint - are fondly remembered. Applied Rhythmic Technology has obtained producer Steve Paton’s approval for the re-issue of the second of these releases, mastered from the original tapes and given a bonus fourth track, ‘Lounge Music’.

East Man
Eastern Code

Anthoney Hart’s East Man project returns for another EP of his reductionist take on grime. Eastern Code contains four new tracks that boil down the genre to its steely frame, with trace elements of dancehall, techno and drum ‘n’ bass in evidence, and seemingly designed for basements, pirate radio and late night car journeys.

Rory St John
Excommunication

Techno done properly will be immersive and full of subtle shifts in sound and mood and this is what Rory St John is aiming towards with his latest release on Voitax. The result is a subtle and introspective take on dub techno with a deep soulful sound at odds perhaps with his earlier more abrasive work. Another string to his production bow, it is full of precise touches that reveal themselves on repeated listens.

Psychic Venom

Epsilove (aka Isabelle Maitre) is the dreamy-yet-dancey Parisian project on Dutch electro label Dekmantel. Hiro Kone
A Fossil Begins To Bray

Most music is defined by what is there, Hiro Kone's has long been defined by what is not. Her electronic sound art is made all the more potent for her ability and willingness to create space, which here serves not only the musical but the political. 'A Fossil Beings To Bray' stands in opposition to excess and in her words, "techno-fascism".

Underground Resistance
World 2 World

Classic early Detroit techno from the dream team of Mike Banks, Jeff Mills, and Robert Hood aka Underground Resistance re-pressed for your modern day listening pleasure. This 1992 release has become something of a classic blending rave, techno and breakbeat. Marie Davidson
Chasing The Light / Work It (Soulwax Remix) x Lara (Daniel Avery Remix)

Alleluia! Ninja Tune are releasing a 12" of the Soulwax remix of Marie Davidson's 'Work It'. It's one of the best remixes, nay songs, of 2019. Built around Davidson's sardonic vocals, it has one of those weapons-grade grooves that those Belgian boys have mastered. There's also a superb Daniel Avery remix of Davidson's 'Lara', all frenetic 303 basslines and ticking hi-hats. Put it on and turn it up.

Andy Stott
It Should Be Us

Creating his music with mathematical precision, Manchester-based artist Andy Stott gives us his first new music in three years, a double EP titled It Should Be Us. Andras
Joyful

An otherworldly dance album from Melbourne-based artist Andras - a.k.a. Andrew Wilson. Available at the end of January via the Beats In Space label, Joyful is an exploration of his formative influences as a teenager, and the results are both sentimental and tender yet capable of filling dancefloors.

Dominik Eulberg
Diorama

Here we have a repress of Dominik Eulberg’s 2011 album, Diorama. His vision of techno is an organic one that connects with nature rather than something that’s polished and club-ready. With Diorama, the German producer has dedicated each track to an aspect of nature. A long-player certainly worthy of a repress.

James Ruskin
Siklikal EP

As prolific as ever, James Ruskin offers yet another exciting release - this time in the form of the 4-track 'Siklikal EP'. The Field
From Here We Go Sublime

The very first album from The Field, Alex Willner’s minimal-techno-pop project, finds his sound fully developed. Endless repetitions of lush comfortable loops, with that ever-present 4/4 beat holding things together.

Aphex Twin
Peel Session 2

Despite being 30 years olds now, Warp Records still very much find themselves on the forefront of music. Following their celebratory 30 hour radio broadcast the label are releasing ten radio sessions recorded by some of their most iconic artists. 'Peel Sessions 2' was first recorded in 1992 by one Aphex Twin. Presented in a highly collectable sleeve.

Qoso
Morning Routine

Will Bankhead continues to select ever more obtuse brands of techno to release via The Trilogy Tapes. This time we get a set of wiggling, airless anti-techno from In Paradisum mainstay Qoso. His ‘Morning Routine’ EP veers close to recent TTT releases from Parris and J. Albert as well as the last few Gobstopper Records drops.

Liam Robertson
Village Of Killin

Redstone Press releases a solo 12” EP by Clouds member Liam Robertson, who presents a ruminative and often dark four-track collection. Village of Killin casts its soundscapes in an array of techno, IDM and bass, and has a curious sense of time and place like much of Robertson’s work alongside bandmate Calum Macleod.

Calimex Mental Implant Corp.
El Saber Del Arpavor

Calimex Mental Implant Corp. is yet another new project from Danny Wolfers (you’ll probably know him best as Legowelt). The project’s debut LP ‘El Saber Del Arpavor’ finds Wolfers in a chill mode, sanding the edges off Legowelt’s occasionally rather busy sound to deliver a set of sleek, sensual synth-funk instrumentals. Some of the jams here come off like smoother versions of the DMX Krew electro sound while others are on the way to Dâm-Funk territory.

Ufocus (Legowelt)
Guidance For The Puzzled

Legowelt man Danny Wolfers strikes out with a new project under a new alias: Ufocus. The sound remains within the Legowelt spectrum however, with layer upon layer of synths falling over themselves in hypnotic motion, over the club-thumping beats beneath. Guidance For The Puzzled is out on Nightwind, double LP.

Kangding Ray
Azores EP

From the waves of emerging synths gliding across high-hat-driven beats on opener '22 Halo', to the catchy and gluggy bassline on penultimate track 'De Tomaso Pantera', Kangding Ray's latest project in 'Azores' is a bold slab of urgent techno. Ultimately it's a fantastic blend of pulsating beats and cinematic soundscapes.

Levon Vincent

Nathan Micay
Blue Spring

After a couple of EPs for Whities and ESP Institute back in 2018, Nathan Micay (formerly Bwana) comes through with his debut LP. Blue Spring is a record of melodic and forceful club fare that hits the sweet-spot between techno, hardcore, jungle, trance etc. The hybridised sound of tracks like 'The Party We Could Have' recalls Future Sound Of London and Special Request. Vinyl editions of Blue Spring also come with a comic!

Chris Moss Acid
Machine Heavy

Chris Moss Acid and Balkan Vinyl make perfect sense together. In fact, it’s quite surprising to find out that Machine Heavy is the first EP from the Bournemouth producer to be released on Posthuman’s label. This is a typically nutty set of tracks, all super-trippy techno textures and guttersnipe drums and fire-in-the-booth rave synths.

Paranoid London
(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games

What Vicious Games to play, what vicious things to do. No, this new release from Paranoid London and Josh Caffe has nothing to do with Chris Isaak’s timeless masterpiece with the similar name. In fact, ‘(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games’ is an altogether different vibe, a gloriously sultry Hercules And Love Affair-style house jam. On the (Vi-Vi) Vicious Games EP the original comes backed with a radio edit and an acid-drenched dub. Great stuff.

Steven Rutter
Science and Neurosis

One half of the electronic duo B12 and owner of FireScope Records, Steven Rutter has recorded and EP with the intention of easing us into autumn. One of the most central figures in UK techno, Kirk Degiorgio hasn’t released an album under his As One moniker since 2006. Stopouts / Klon Dump
Ahead Of Us / Do The Dump

Cracking split 12” here on A Colourful Storm from Stopouts AKA Andy Panayi and Rob Coleman and Klon Dump. Stopouts Ahead Of Us was originally released in 2002 on Groovepressure. The last time we heard from Klon Dump was their ambient tape on No Corner - this time they’ve got a bit of a monster-sized techno thing going on. RIYL Autechre, Dimbiman and unsurprisingly Klon Dump. Stopouts fans will probably like it too.

Minimal Violence
InDreams

Massive techno with ridiculous arena synths and squares riding the bass lines. Pretty old school sound that also approaches perhaps even the hardstyle flavor from Minimal Violence. The duo, consisting of Vancouver local heroes Ashlee Luk and Lida P, covers just about every base of the heavy techno spectrum on their debut album InDreams.

DE:10.08 is the 8th EP in the 10 Years De:Tuned series. Everything here is built around classic 303 acid sounds. It kicks off with a new version of sT8818r by Humanoid. Elsewhere, there is Mike Dred’s remix of The Kosmik Kommando by Biosurvival which brings some proper rave to proceedings. Tracks from veteran Luke Vibert and cult German duo Air Liquide make up side two.

Welcome To Paradise (Italian Dream House 89-93) Vol. 2

‘Dream House’, in case you didn’t know, is a special Italian spin-off of the deep house sound: a sort of Mediterranean cousin to UK ambient house artists. It’s a gorgeous style with properly blissful vibes and big sweet melodies, and Welcome To Paradise Vol. 2, which covers the period 1989 to 1993, is an expertly-curated collection of the genre’s highlights. Double LP on Safe Trip.

PS + ISF
s/t

L.I.E.S. have a real treat here for fans of the harsher end of European techno. The producers of this EP have tried to hide themselves away under cover of their initials, but we’ve sleuthed that the PS and ISF in question are Dutch fiends Parrish Smith and Interstellar Funk. On these four tracks they unite for a set of no-messing EBM. The slower tempo of closer ‘Collapsed Buildings’ gives it an anarcho-dub feel reminiscent of recent drops from The Bug’s Pressure Records. Good stuff.

Trackstars (Delroy Edwards & Benedek)
Untitled

Trackstars are a duo consisting of Delroy Edwards and Benedek. Untitled is their new 4-track EP on L.I.E.S. Delroy Edwards, a Los Angeles native, moved to New York and worked at A1 records with Ron Moreli who founded L.I.E.S. Benedek is US producer and musician Nicky Benedek (C.O.O.L Band, Manzanem, Rx (20)).

Barker
Utility

Pitched somewhere between IDM and straight house music, Utility is the debut solo album from producer Sam Barker, following up on his well-received EP Debiasing last year. The record spans nine tracks of inner-space travel, beginning as psychedelic thumbnail sketches and thrashed out into electronic epics.

Herron
Box of Swords

Meandyou.’s founder member Herron continues the sterling work of his Yield tape with this new 12” EP of thrillingly left-of-field electronica for Peder Mannerfelt Produktion. Box of Swords includes four new productions ranging from banging electro to acid house, with a Peder Mannerfelt himself remixing ‘United Walls’.

Conrad Pack
The Best / The Truth

We don’t know much about mysterious producer Conrad Pack, but what we can say with confidence is that their new self-released 12” contains two cracking techno tunes. Both ‘The Best’ and ‘The Truth’ serve up brisk club grooves that manage to be eerie, paranoid and sexy all at the same time. They're kind of like a more minimal rendering of Surgeon cross-pollinated with one of Pinch’s soundsystem mutations.

Hieroglyphic Being
Synth Expression/Rhythmic Cubism

Synth Expression/Rhythmic Cubism is the latest LP from one of Chicago's most prolific sons, Jamal Moss AKA Hieroglyphic Being. Moss takes sounds from all aspects of the Chicago dance scene and beyond, seemingly never happy sticking with one genre. Polyrhythmic, polyphonic, anchored by bass, rooted in Chicago, but open to new ideas.

The Other People Place
Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café

The long wished-for repress of Lifestyles of the Laptop Café finally materialises, fifteen years after the late James Stinson of Drexciya renown released the classic anonymously as the Other People Place on Warp. It’s a seamless, calming and moving piece of downtempo electronica that has become a key album in dance music history, and should well be a staple item in any home listening fan’s collection with its renewed availability.

The Field
Looping State Of Mind

Who is the best person at loops? It could be argued that The Field's Axel Willner is up there at the top end of the chart. Looping State Of Mind is his third album and one of his best. Again it is a series of sublime blissed-out techno tracks which circle round and round like a bird looking for its prey as you slowly wallow in his bathtub of luxurious sounds. This (currently) comes at a nice price so no excuses... buy now - ask questions later.

DJ Koze
Knock Knock

Extremely weird dance music hermit DJ Koze has found the time between an inexplicable raft of Ibiza appearances to create Knock Knock. Featuring a raft of guests (Bon Iver, Róisín Murphy, Mano le Tough), the album is an array of sunshine-y bangers of all shapes and sizes.

D.K.
Rising EP

Rising is the third and final EP in a trilogy by D.K. this EP sees D.K. in a darker mood than the previous two EPs. D.K. neatly ties strangling motifs from the trilogy together. There are battle songs here that would soundtrack the stylised fight scenes from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or The Matrix and a closing track that balances melancholy and euphoria perfectly. 12” EP on Antnote.

Ikpathua x Anxiety Support Group
Tape 09

London-based label Cong Burn’s Tape 09 sees Anxiety Support Group split one in half with Ikpathua following the split with Carlos (Charlotte Bickley), this time presenting the usual porta-studio improvised jams mixed up with abstract, blissful techno. Presented in a limited run of only 50 cassettes.

Tecture
Anomalous Materials

Anomalous Materials is a brand new 12” vinyl EP from Berlin-based producer Paul Pankow, who releases music under the name Tecture. Responsible for half a dozen or so great tracks at this point, this new four-track collection via Tilt sees him both respect the history of dance music while maintaining a playful approach to how he renders it.

Holden
The Idiots Are Winning

The Idiots Are Winning (now there’s a sentiment that holds up well today) was the debut album by one time overlord of computer music, Holden, or James Holden, as we’ve come to know and love him. It was originally released in 2006 and contains the classic tracks Idiot, Lump, Corduroy and 10101. James Holden went on to make The Animal Spirits, No.2 in the Norman Records albums of the year in 2017.

808 State
Gorgeous

In 1980s Manchester one of the most terrifying things to do (and there were a lot of terrifying things to do in 1980s Manchester) would be to go into Eastern Bloc records and ask for... I dunno the latest dance pop smash by Paul Hardcastle. Behind the counter was Martin Price who would later go on to form 808 State. As you can imagine he had exquisite taste which lent itself to the techno and house explorations he would go on to produce. Gorgeous was their fourth album and features a Joy Division sample, a UB40 rework and the vocals of Liverpool gob Ian McCulloch.

808 State
Don Solaris

The band once monikered Bob State by someone at Top of the Pops are  - despite that  - electronic music legends. Son Solaris was their 1996 era opus which brought a more rocky influence into their works but is still deep and immersive and full of contrasting moods. It features vocal contributions from Louise Rhodes of Lamb and James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers. The sleeve was designed by television motor mouth Paul Morley.

Space Dimension Controller
Love Beyond The Intersect

Picking up the narrative of the character ‘Mr. 8040’ established on previous album Welcome To Mikrosector-50, Belfast-born cosmic house artist Space Dimension Controller releases his second record on R&S titled Love Beyond The Intersect, telling of the character’s adventures after crash-landing on an alien planet.

Jeff Mills
Sight, Sound and Space

Jeff Mills sets off on his latest astral travel with bumper compilation 'Sight, Sound And Space'. Each of the three instalments here feature a carefully curated selection of tracks from across Mills’ extensive back catalogue - 'Sight' consists of stuff he’s made for the screen, 'Sound' collects some of his most sonically intriguing work and 'Space' once again explores his fascination with the cosmos. The accompanying booklet sees Mills illuminating us with the stories behind the music.

Shed
Oderbruch

Despite not having a number after their name Shed are so much better than Shed 7. The original Shed...and best... is back with only his fifth album in what seems a lifetime of work. Rene Pawlowitz escaped the excitement of his current home of Berlin and went back to the pastoral landscapes of his native former East Germany in order to craft a lovelorn album entwining life in the sleepy backwater and the early techno music that inspired him in his youth.

Function
Existenz

Function delivers Existenz, his first solo LP since 2013’s Incubation. Known largely as a techno savant, Existenz actually locks into a more cerebral and considered sound than some of Function’s previous releases. There are, for instance, a fair few new age and hypnagogic influences to be found throughout the album, a flex that pushes this particular plane of Existenz towards the sound of Answer Code Request’s recent LP for Ostgut Ton. Robert Owens and Stefanie Parnow guest.

Elecktroids
Kilohertz

Long sought after and deeply missed EP from Kraftwerk inspired electro duo Elecktroids. Likely the work of Gerald Donald and James Stinson who you  probably know as Drexciya. The original version of Kilohertz on Warp featured a paltry four tracks to Clone Aqualung Series' five. Worthwhile if only for that feat of musical archaeology.

Umwelt
Superior Life Forms

French electronic musician and producer Umwelt is known for his love of analogue sound, delivered in a raw and often ferocious fashion. He is the founder of Rave Or Die and New Flesh Records. His new album for Midnight Shift, Superior Life Forms is no let down in terms of his signature sound. 6-tracks of destructiveness.

DJ Seinfeld
Parallax EP

Swedish artist Armand Jakobsson drops another new DJ Seinfeld EP on 12” vinyl, consisting of four tracks of his trademark emotional workouts, lush cuts of deep house, breaks, acid and general left-of-field trickery. Often pigeonholed into the whole lo-fi house scene, DJ Seinfeld has proved time again that he's a far more versatile producer with wider appeal - as evidenced when Apex Twin dropped his excellent 'Sakura'. Released through the producers own Young Ethics label.

Richard Fearless
Atlas Of Insanity

Death In Vegas member Richard Fearless gets in amongst it once again on new two-tracker Atlas Of Insanity. The EP’s title-track and A-side is a slamming big-room techno tool that sounds like an old Giorgio Moroder tune in the process of Hulking out. Flip Atlas Of Insanity over and you’ll find ‘New Perspective’, a more cautious and paranoid cut with hints of Ostgut Ton to it.

20 Years of fabric

Having escaped a shutdown by the authorities in 2016, London clubbing institution Fabric celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new double compilation of specially commissioned music on their fabric and FABRICLIVE platforms. 20 Years of fabric is available in two separate 2xLP volumes - the first, fabric, contains pieces from Nina Kraviz, Sasha and Marcel Dettman, while FABRICLIVE features tracks by Groove Armada, UNKLE and Daniel Avery - or collected together on double CD with 48-page booklet.

Stephen Mallinder
Um Dada

It wouldn’t really be accurate to say that we’ve been waiting a long time for a Stephen Mallinder solo LP. This is because the Cabaret Voltaire man’s last (and previously only) album Pow-Wow came out a full 37 years ago, way back in 1982, and as such most of us had stopped holding out for a follow-up. Now we’re pleased to tell you that 1) there is one, 2) it’s called Um Dada and 3) it’s good. This is a record of sprightly oddball techno-tronica that’s not dissimilar to Mouse On Mars or Matmos. Um Dada is out via Dais (Drab Majesty, SRSQ). Please note that the CD release contains two tracks that don't appear on the vinyl editions.

Marcus Schmickler
Particle/Matter-Wave/Energy

Marcus Schmickler is an experimental producer with a 50+ record discography behind him. The latest in a long line of releases is 'Particle/Matter-Wave/Energy' - a work in which techno and noise meet head on. It is one 37 minute long piece, split into two parts - 'Particle/Matter' and 'Wave/Energy' one on each side of the record. On Kompakt.

Luke Hess
Into the Deep EP

Luke Hess runs DeepLabs recordings so please allow him the pleasure of introducing his own 12". What he has given us are three techno tracks that hark back to the classic mid 90s Detroit scene with noisy analogue recording techniques and a whole host of classic gear used as listed in near painful detail in the press release. All three tracks are accompanied and inspired by bible text so join Luke (and his lord) in further lush adventures in sound.

Emika
Falling In Love With Sadness Remixes

A remix EP of tracks from Emika’s sixth studio album Falling In Love With Sadness, released late last year for World Mental Health Day. British post-dubstep producer Pinch turns ‘Eternity’ into something cinematic; techno star Julia Govor opens ‘Run’ up and finds new depths; veteran Rebekah turns the title track into a piece of dark techno; and Headless Horseman almost completely revamps ‘Wash It All Away’. Released on green coloured 12” vinyl.

Truncate
The Bell

With its jittering title track, Truncate returns with new EP 'The Bell' - two years after dropping his acclaimed EP 'The Terminal' for James Ruskin's Blueprint label back in 2017. Comprised of three dark and dancefloor-ready tracks, The LA-based producer continues to showcase his prowess with this subtle slab of rough-and-ready techno.

B12
Time Tourist (Expanded Edition)

A classic of Warp’s golden era, B12’s 1996 album Time Tourist gets a landmark twenty-second anniversary reissue, including a few newly-unearthed alt versions for posterity. Michael Golding’s and Steve Rutter’s glistening, FM pad-drenched ambient IDM went all-in on the retrofuturistic sci-fi narratives for this one, topped off as they are with referential titles and Trevor Webb’s massive painted cover art. Excellent.

Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Not sure that you need us to introduce this one to you. The album that broke Aphex Twin to the masses (relatively speaking), Selected Ambient Works 85-92 starts with two genuinely sublime pieces of music, ‘Xtal’ and ‘Tha’, which your collection literally cannot be without. The whole thing is great though, whether for solo listening late at night or for esoteric dancefloors. An absolute classic.
