Ghost World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Without Blueshammer there'd be no Kings of Leon. It is as simple as that. The authentic blues band are the biggest name on this soundtrack of the fabulous film Ghost World. You also get a bit of Skip James, some seventy year old calypso recordings and rare blues dredged up from old 78rpm records but nothing in the world of blues-rock can compare to the mighty Blueshammer.

Tangerine Dream
Destination Berlin

The title reflecting the thoughts of a million electronic music producers. In fact Destination Berlin was the 1989 album from synth legends Tangerine Dream and a soundtrack to the movie of the same name. It is a rare sight of the upbeat poppy side of Tangerine Dream featuring jaunty sunny side up vignettes. Not a doom laden chord in sight. Transparent blue vinyl re-issue on Music On Vinyl.

Concretism
Dick and Stewart (Original Soundtrack)

'Dick and Stewart' is a series of animated short films, narrated by Julian Barratt, that show a bleak picture of Britain but leave us guessing as to whether this is something we’ve already experienced or something that’s yet to come. Chris Sharp is the man behind Concretism, and he makes Ghost Box-indebted hauntological electronica that's perfectly suited to this dystopian view - he previously made a record centred around the threat of nuclear war, for one thing.

Toto & Brian Eno
Dune (Original Soundtrack Recording)

The dual headliner is probably something of a red herring, Toto and Brian Eno didn't actually collaborate on a soundtrack for David Lynch's Dune. Had that happened it would have been the Best Music Ever and the music industry would have subsequently been halted whilst everybody recovered. Instead Toto recorded the majority of the album themselves with Eno contributing separately one track. Still, we can but dream.

Doctor Who: The Visitation

Paddy Kingsland scored the 1982 episode of Doctor Who: The Visitation. Peter Davidson was in The Doctors...er...clothes at the time, dressed sort of like a cricket umpire, I think. Anyway, it was set in 17th century England when aliens known as the Terileptils spread a plague in a plot to take over the planet. Paddy Kingsland was part of the famed Radiophonic Workshop.

John Carpenter
Skeleton

This tremendous blood-red-coloured 12” vinyl represents the first non-soundtrack music from iconic director and composer John Carpenter since 2016. Working with his son Cody and godson Daniel Davies, ‘Skeleton’ and its B-side ‘Unclean Spirit’ were created from improvised riffs, and the lack of a pre-defined theme makes them thrillingly unpredictable.

The Lure (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The Lure is a bit of a strange one, a Polish contemporary vampiric horror flick that also explores the uncertainty of childhood and social strain. A rather unlikely film to enjoy a soundtrack release, were it not for the fact that the film is set around a sort of underground cabaret night, and also exists as a musical. Of course.

Luciano Michelini
Morte sospetta di una minorenne (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Remastered from the original reels, Luciano Michelini’s fantastic score to Sergio Martino’s 1975 crime movie Morte sospetta di una minorenne (translated from Italian as ‘The Suspicious Death of a Minor’) is presented on vinyl once again, with new artwork designed by Luke Insect.

Ramin Djawadi
Game of Thrones: Season 2 (Music from the HBO Series)

Season 2 of HBO's phenomenally successful costume drama Game of Thrones features more swords, more dragons but also another lovely soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi who had scored season one to high acclaim. His sorrowful and grandly orchestrated music works just as well with or without medieval jousting and scenes that some viewers may find upsetting.

Howard Shore
The Fly (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Critically-acclaimed The Fly will be remembered for its eyebrow-raising special effects and transformative Jeff Goldblum performance, but the importance of Howard Shore's eerie soundtrack cannot be underestimated. With help from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the 23 track-long piece was the perfect audio companion to the visual madness that unfolds.
