Psychological Strategy Board
Penny Slinger: Out Of The Shadows

Soundtracking an avant garde film about British artist Penny Slinger is a bold move for a debut, but that's what Psychological Strategy Board—Paul Snowden and Maybury—have done. Expect unsettling electronic soundscapes, fuelled by 1960s counter-culture and Slinger's masterfully experimental artwork.

John Barry
Raise The Titanic - The Complete Film Score

When the film was released in 1980 it was completely panned by audiences and critics alike, it’s redeeming feature was the majestic and incredibly on-point score composed by John Barry. The master tapes were subsequently lost by the studio but long time collaborator Nic Raine re-recorded it to near perfection with the The City of Prague Philharmonic for Silva Screen.

Ennio Morricone
Drammi Gotici

Wojciech Kilar
Ninth Gate

The horror of Roman Polanski’s film The Ninth Gate is matched by its soundtrack, which gives the kind of doomy drama you’d want from something so tied up with Satanism. Wojciech Kilar is a very cinematic composer, and his chief vocalist, operatic soprano Sumi Jo, leads the whole thing marvellously. First time release on vinyl, limited to 1000 copies on Silva Screen.

Pino Donaggio
A Venezia Un Dicembre Rosso Shocking

First faithful reissue of the soundtrack to Nicolas Roeg's clunkily named A Venezia Un Dicembre Rosso Shocking. Though no way near as well known as big man Ennio Morricone (how could he be?), Pino Donaggio deserves to be spoken of alongside him for being able to capture the specific mood of Venice.

John Williams
Star Wars - The Last Jedi (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Finally: the soundtrack to the famous movie Porg. My favourite movie of all time, it tells the story of a small birdlike creature called Porg attempting to flutter its wings into every frame of a Star Wars movie. Actually the Last Jedi is the best and dumbest movie I've ever seen and John Williams scored it because that's his job, duh. Spoiler alert - Boba Fett kills all the Porgs! :(

Baby Driver Volume 2: The Score For A Score

I suppose one of the benefits of making a film so deeply grounded in its soundtrack that you can release something called The Score for a Score. Whatever that means, this records has more music from Edgar Wright's well edited film, as well as remixes and Steven Price's unreleased score.

Neil Young + Promise Of The Real
Paradox

If you weren’t excited enough about the fact that you can soon Netflix & chill with the ‘Godfather of Grunge’, he’s got a new album out too. Neil Young & The Promise Of The Real have soundtracked Paradox - the aforementioned Netflix film in which Young stars - and the LP features Neil Young doing plenty of Neil Young-type stuff.

The Ballad Of Shirley Collins

The documentary The Ballad of Shirley Collins traces the long and eventful life of our era’s foremost singer of traditional English folk song. The film captures sessions for her album Lodestar, her first after decades of tragic silence. It also recalls her 1959 song-collecting trip to the US with Alan Lomax, some of the fruits of which are included on this soundtrack. Also here is music from collaborators Michael J York and Ossian Brown, an unearthed home recording of Shirley’s late sister Dolly, and a previously unreleased 1958 BBC session. Available on vinyl, or on CD with a DVD of the film itself.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
Kings (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Kings (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis further cements their place as top-of-the-list score writers. The film itself is set in Los Angeles in 1992 directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, with whom Warren Ellis has worked before, and stars Halle Berry. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis perfectly capture the tension of the most emotionally volatile time in the city’s history.

Christopher Willis
The Death of Stalin (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Chistopher Willis’s lively score for Armando Iannucci’s black comedy The Death of Stalin conveys both the fraught intensity of the film’s plot and the provocatively irreverent style in which it is told. Willis has collaborated with Iannucci’s team before for Veep, as well as working on numerous films.

If you’re gonna make a film about climate change, and need the soundtrack to resonate just as much with the message, how about grabbing Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, Mogwai, and film composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Stirring and captivating, and huge for fans of either bands. Triple heavyweight LP pack on Invada.

Cliff Martinez / Various
Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

If you've seen the movie Drive then you'll know that the soundtrack is something pretty special. It was mostly produced by Cliff Martinez who has had a storied history as drummer for hire in the likes of Captain Beefheart and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This however is a gorgeous synthetic affair which also features tracks by the likes of Chromatics and Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx. Brought to vinyl and taep by Invada.

Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury
Ex Machina (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Geoff Barrow’s Invada has really fallen wholeheartedly into the soundtrack business over the last few years, releasing the interesting sounds of a number of fairly big films. Max Richter
Hostiles (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

You sure can count on Max Richter to deliver works of sweeping cinematic power, and so it's no surprise that he has increasingly been composing music for actual cinema. Hostiles, a film set in the violent Wild West of the late 1800’s, gets a big dramatic blockbuster score that alternates between lush orchestrals and tense percussives.

Matthew Herbert
A Fantastic Woman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Matthew Herbert appears to have veered away from his super-conceptual production methods for once: his soundtrack for A Fantastic Woman, a powerful Chilean film about trans identity, is simply music, combining rich and colourful synthpop with classical stylings. Herbert’s OST is released by the Milan label.

Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein
Stranger Things: Season 1 - Volume 2

1980’s horror series Stranger Things has been extremely well received for its careful reconstruction of 1980’s film tropes, and the soundtrack is no exception. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein have done a sterling job of absorbing all that John Carpenter and Vangelis, and have produced an addictive suite of motifs in the vintage style. Out on Invada.
