Ben Frost
Catastrophic Deliquescence (Music from Fortitude 2015-2018)

Mute presents Catastrophic Deliquescence, a double white-vinyl release that collects together the original soundtrack work that Ben Frost composed for Sky Atlantic’s critically praised crime drama ‘Fortitude’, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. The Australian’s signature mixes of industrial and ambient music perfectly heightened the senses for the tension of the drama itself.

Daughters of Darkness

Soundtrack to the cult Belgian horror film Daughters of Darkness. According to film critic Geoffrey O'Brien it's one of the classier lesbian vampire films, which is no doubt why Lil Wayne sampled its soundtrack on 'Outstanding'. The album itself is some of François De Roubaix's best work, appropriately seductive and intriguing.

Tenebre (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Tenebre is one of the many Dario Argento masterpieces in the Italian film directors cannon. His films were usually set to the music of Italian prog band Goblin but they had disbanded by 1982 when this film was made. He did, however, convince Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli & Massimo Morante, formerly of the band, to record the score - a mindblowing disco-prog workout.

Peaky Blinders: Original Soundtrack (Series 1-5)

I'd like the job of music chooser on Peaky Blinders. First series just pick music from Nick Cave's Greatest Hits. Second series do the same but for PJ Harvey. And on... and on. Any band out there with a dirty, bluesy sound and a decent Spotify playlist stands a chance. They get more daring though as the series wear on and the thing is... it works.  The music, though repetitive, perfectly soundtracks the grim industrial wasteland the cast shag and murder their way through. This 3LP or 2CD collection puts together all music used in the five series so far so you can swoon and imagine yourself floating in those big watery Tommy Shelby eyes as you listen.

The Music From Bagpuss

Hello all 40+ somethings out there. You'll remember big saggy 70s cloth cat Bagpuss from your favourite childhood television show and the beautifully constructed folk soundtrack it snored around? Brings back memories doesn't it? Well the soundtrack actually works as a lovely album even without the nostalgia associated with the cat and now you can get it on a wonderful Christmas present-ready 'shop window' edition vinyl or book back CD with all your favourite slightly hip people talking about the album in an accompanying book. Wake up, and look at this thing that I bring!

Brecht Ameel
Ghost Tropic

Premiered at Cannes this year and set for cinematic release on New Year’s Day, Belgian director Bas Devos’ haunting new film Ghost Tropic is soundtracked by Razen’s Brecht Ameel. Consisting of lengthy, ambient acoustic sections that evoke warmth and shelter - counter to the central character’s travails - the soundtrack is released on 3rd January.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
Music From The Motion Picture - The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

Yeeeee-haw! Those old cowboys Nick Cave & Warren Ellis roll into town, pistols cocked and boots spurred, with their music for Andrew Dominick’s 2007 flick The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. This was only the pair’s second scoring job (they’ve since done a fair few more), but you wouldn’t know it by the confident, grand music here. Their Southern Gothic chamber schtick is highly evocative.

Reservoir Dogs (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Twenty five years since this classic movie was issued so here's the soundtrack pressed onto red and clear vinyl. It's an eccentric series of '70s songs that you would never listen to in any other circumstances with the highlights being Harry Nilsson's ridiculous 'Coconut', Stealers Wheel, Joe Tex and others.

Carl Thiel
Seis Manos (Music From The Netflix Original Series)

With scores such as From Dusk ‘Til Dawn and Machete under his belt, it seems that Carl Thiel would be the natural choice for scoring the animated Netflix series Seis Manos. The series centres around the lives of three friends, once orphaned, who were trained in martial arts set in a fictional town in 1970s Mexico. The music mixes the cool sounds of ‘60 and ‘70s movies with modern action film scores, seasoned with Mexican instrumentation.

The film was shot on location in Russia and Ukraine, revealing the outsider lives of young people in Kiev, Moscow, Vladimir and St. Petersburg. Berlin based producer Antoni Maiovvi, who also goes under the names Pleasure Model and Ketsueki Sakuru, has worked on soundtracks before (Abdullah, Yellow). But for Can Evrenol’s horror Housewife, Maiovvi takes a massive step away from his Italio-synth-disco inspired production and provides an eerie and hellish orchestrated backing. Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo' is about detective agents, and while Bernard Hermann is in fact not one of those, his score follows the film with the tact and grace of a spy trying not to step on egg shells, with impressively short motifs and cues that keep the film fluid, moving at a constant pace.

John Carpenter
Dark Star - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Dark Star was the first feature film that John Carpenter directed: he also, naturally, provided the soundtrack, a smorgasbord of synthy bleeps, bloops and tones. This reissue on we release whatever the fuck we want comes as a 12” with the OST and a 7” featuring an Alan Howarth rework and a locked groove of sound effects.

Mark Korven
The Lighthouse

Sacred Bones presents the soundtrack to Robert Eggers’ new psychological horror movie 'The Lighthouse', composed and recorded by Mark Korven in league with the director himself. The pair teamed up again after their unnerving work on 2015’s 'The Witch', this time eschewing almost everything that didn’t have some kind of nautical feel or connection. Consequently, the score - prominently featuring horns, pipes, conch shells etc. - feels completely apt and thoroughly unique.

Snazzy picture disc vinyl edition of the soundtrack to the 1994 documentary Crumb concerning legendary cartoonist Robert Crumb.  The soundtrack begins with the artist musing on music and life before featuring several jazz and ragtime styled pieces featuring David Boeddinghaus and Craig Ventresco. It wouldn't be complete without some of Crumb's beloved old time folk blues thrown in for good measure. Nice looking disc.

Ludwig Göransson
Black Panther (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Mondo Music presents the complete Academy Award-winning score to Marvel’s excellent Black Panther movie, composed by Ludwig Göransson and spanning six sides of vinyl. Göransson’s vision won praise for its use of traditional African instrumentation and vocal performances and resolving them with the requirements of a big-budget cinema release.

PJ Harvey
All About Eve (Original Music)

Verily, it is All About Eve these days - so much so that the BBC have even discussed Killing her! PJ Harvey seems to have been swept up in all the Eve-xcitement, composing a score to the West End adaptation of this ultra-famous old movie. Ol' Polly Jean keeps things ticking along nicely, her mostly-instrumental album interspersed with a couple of those Sussex Downs ballads she does so well. The All About Eve score is out on Invada.

Madonna
Who's That Girl (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Madonna was no stranger to acting in 1987 when she starred in Who’s That Girl alongside Griffin Dunne. It was her 5th role. She also performed most of the soundtrack, which just happens to be getting a gleaming reissue on crystal clear vinyl. I say she performed most of the soundtrack as it also includes songs by Scritti Politti, Duncan Faure, Club Nouveau and Michael Davidson.

Ben Frost
Dark: Cycle 2 (Original Music From The Netflix Series)

Ben Frost’s music has always had a cinematic quality to it, so it makes sense that recent years have seen the Aussie composer increasingly writing for the screen. He turns in a typically Frostian set for the OST of Netflix’s Dark: Cycle 2. These tracks are full of foreboding electronics, writhing drones and icy strings that have something of a Bernard Herrmann influence to them. It’s all very Black Mirror, which is to say it sounds quite like Geoff Barrow’s solo work.

Charles Bernstein
A Nightmare On Elm Street (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Score)

A vinyl re-issue of Charles Bernstein’s memorable score to A Nightmare On Elm Street, the 1984 horror classic that introduced the world to the nightmarish figure of Freddy Krueger. Bernstein’s mixture of synth sounds that ranged from chilling to blood-curdling, plus distorted percussion and creepy voices, established the mood perfectly.

Bruno Nicolai
Défense de Savoir

The first vinyl re-issue for Bruno Nicolai’s soundtrack to French director Nadine Trintignant’s 1973 crime thriller Défense de Savoir (trans: Forbidden To Know). The Italian composer was responsible for dozens of acclaimed soundtracks around this time, but this is an often overlooked score, partly because it was only originally released in France.

Queen
Bohemian Rhapsody (The Original Soundtrack)

I’m probably right in thinking that Norman’s stance on Queen is that they’re crap [editorial note; it's not!].....[Actual Editor's Note: It is!] . Love ‘em or hate ‘em, though, it is undeniable that Freddie Mercury was a one-off and they don’t make music like anyone else. Here we have the soundtrack to the massively successful Bohemian Rhapsody, the film about Freddie Mercury and Queen. It’s a mix of previously released Queen songs and previously unreleased songs from their legendary Live Aid performance. You also get the bonus of the 20th Century Fox fanfare being played in Brian May’s signature guitar style. The press release bangs on about sales achieved in Q4 - when did it stop being about the music, man? Double Heavyweight Vinyl LP on Virgin EMI.

Unusual Sounds

Since launching in 2014 the Mexican Summer reissues offshoot Anthology Recordings have unearthed some excellent old things from the likes of Pharaoh Sanders and The Nightcrawlers. For their latest trick they delve into the world of library music. The twenty tracks of Unusual Sounds are exactly the sort of cerebral oddities that we now expect as standard from these releases. Comes with liner notes from David Hollander - this is good because he’s curated an extensive history of library music that shares its title with this compilation and as such he’s rather knowledgeable on the subject.

John Cameron
Kes (Original Soundtrack Music)

One of the great British films of all time, Ken Loach's 'Kes' is an atmospheric classic for any of us who grew up in the North of England but the soundtrack by John Cameron is equally evocative. He put together a crack jazz line up to get into the heart of the film and so the soundtrack will appeal to jazz as well as film buffs. A beautiful daydream antidote to an all too real South Yorkshire nightmare. This is the real thing. This is beauty so fragile it hurts" says Jarvis Cocker in his liner notes.

Ramin Djawadi

If you have, then you have probably also been freaked out/unsettled/made to feel less-than-whole by its soundtrack, which is scored by the ever creepy mood-setter Ramin Djawadi. You can now hear his compositions for season four of the show on vinyl. As has become tradition for the show, season four also features a "cover" of a song from within the show's world, contributed this time by Sigur Rós, who perform "The Rains of Castamere" -- they follow in the footsteps of the National and the Hold Steady, bless them.

This new vinyl edition of the Twin Peaks score has been pressed on ‘damn fine coffee’-coloured vinyl, an extremely Death Waltz Recording Company thing to do. Mind you, they’re a good label who do good records, and there are arguably few good-er records than Angelo Badalamenti’s acclaimed score for the original Twin Peaks. You probably know how this thing goes now - ethereal, loungey, Lynchian, peerless.

John Carpenter
Halloween - 40th Anniversary Edition

The worlds of film and music are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop of juice from the reboot of John Carpenter’s Halloween. This one here is not to be confused with a soundtrack album for the 40th anniversary movie - it is, in fact, the 40th anniversary edition of the ORIGINAL 1978 score. Apparently the first official release of this soundtrack was a remixed version, so for this new edition Carpenter’s partner-in-crime Alan Howarth has faithfully copied over the film's audio tracks in the same order in which they appear on-screen.

Also features a making of and audio commentary.

Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch
Twin Peaks: Season Two Music And More

Season Two of the original Twin Peaks season was a funny one. The TV execs wrested control away from David Lynch resulting in a goofy bastardised version of the show that never quite hit the highs of season one. No surprise then that the show's soundtrack (by Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti) was somewhat ostracised, only now receiving its first vinyl issue. That said, the music of season two was as engaging and enigmatic as the first. Little wonder noted season two hater David Lynch agreed to oversee this reissue.

Mogwai
KIN

It's not been too long since the successful Every Country's Sun LP but no resting on laurels for Mogwai as they release their first feature film soundtrack for the upcoming movie KIN (made by the same people who brought you Stranger Things). Though it will appeal to lovers of sci-fi soundtracks, we're promised that Mogwai fans won't be left disappointed.

Paul McCullough
Night Of The Living Dead (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As we’re sure you’ve already deduced from the title this is a new edition of the music from Tom Savini’s 1990 remake of George Romero’s classic horror flick Night Of The Living Dead. What you may not be aware of is that this Strange Disc reissue is the first time that Tom McCullough’s score has been pressed on vinyl. Neat. It's a very John Carpenter sort of affair, all spooky synths and nasty chords.

Alain Goraguer
La Planete Sauvage - Original Soundtrack

Long renowned as one of the most dazzling and original animated films to burst forth from the European quarter, Its soundtrack is actually as celebrated as the beloved film from 1973, Re-issued on wax by J Saul Kane's DC recordings around the Millennium and again a few years back, this is the latest definitive version from crate diggers extraordinaire Superior Viaduct. This OST is a wicked, groovesome soupçon of styles with the emphasis on funk, orchestral and astral tones to create a true 70's space-face classic. Sampled to hell for generations, make sure you bag this if you've not indulged previously. In this age of lavish soundtrack fetishism, there's a handful that truly ARE indispensible and work as well away from the movie as with it.
