Ben Frost
Dark: Cycle 1 (Original Music From The Netflix Series)

Dark is the latest Netflix thriller with a supernatural twist and the dark and its ominous soundtrack has been written and performed by our favourite Australian-by-way-of-Iceland composer Ben Frost. Inspired by the light and shade in the drama Frost has produced a beautiful if doomy soundtrack. The great news is that you can now get the soundtrack on vinyl including four unreleased bonus tracks. Comes on Anorak Yellow coloured vinyl.

Konami Digital Entertainment
Metal Gear Solid (Original Video Game Soundtrack)

Here we have the first ever vinyl pressing of the soundtrack to Metal Gear Solid. The groundbreaking classic action adventure game was one of the first of its kind when it was released in 1998. The soundtrack matches the drama of the game with pulsating beats and percussion, brooding sounds and the odd curveball latin rhythm thrown in for good measure.

Joe Thwaites & Jim Fowler
Blood & Truth: Original Game Soundtrack

Blood & Truth is a virtual reality PS4 shooter game set in a gangster-crimey London. Rather pleasingly, the original soundtrack, put together by Joe Thwaites & Jim Fowler, avoids the lock-stock-cockney-rock approach altogether, for the more contemporary approach of, well,  orchestral grime, featuring spots from JME and Kamakaze alongside a 90-piece orchestra. Vinyl release from Black Screen.

Masahiko Satoh
Kayobi No Onna

Re-issued on vinyl for the first time in fifty years, Mitsuko & Svetlana Records brings us Masahiko Satoh’s soundtrack to Kayobi No Onna, an obscure suspense drama that aired for nine episodes between 1969 and 1970. Satoh’s score is filled with jazz improvisations, beautifully rendered mood pieces and flair in spades.

Peaky Blinders: Original Soundtrack (Series 1-5)

I'd like the job of music chooser on Peaky Blinders. First series just pick music from Nick Cave's Greatest Hits. Second series do the same but for PJ Harvey. And on... and on. Any band out there with a dirty, bluesy sound and a decent Spotify playlist stands a chance. They get more daring though as the series wear on and the thing is... it works.  The music, though repetitive, perfectly soundtracks the grim industrial wasteland the cast shag and murder their way through. This 3LP or 2CD collection puts together all music used in the five series so far so you can swoon and imagine yourself floating in those big watery Tommy Shelby eyes as you listen.

Alison Chesley, Steve Albini, Tim Midyett
Music from the film Girl on the Third Floor

Look at that terrifying house. It depicts the upcoming horror film Girl on the Third Floor made by director Travis Stevens. To create a suitably creepy soundtrack he recruited Steve Albini to put together a collective and he in turn drafted in Tim Midyett (Mint Mile, Silkworm) and Alison Chesley (Helen Money). A truly fascinating sounding concept.

Roy Budd
The Internecine Project

Trunk might well have unearthed a gem in this previously unreleased score from Roy Budd. Budd, as you may know, was master of 1970s scores and The Internecine Project comes from his peak pre-Get Carter period. The film with its oddball title and James Coburn lead fell under the radar somewhat and therefore the soundtrack is one of Budd's lesser known works. Get it now on limited one time vinyl pressing.

Felix White
The Edge (Original Soundtrack)

Felix White is the guitarist in the Maccabees and for a minute there I worried he was having to soundtrack a film about U2's beany-hatted guitar ace. No, The Edge is a documentary about England's greatest (watch this space though) cricket team who triumphed between 2009 and 2013. A drama about their success and the toll it took on them. I'm sure Kevin Pierson has a whole chapter to himself. Comes on cricket ball coloured vinyl... and as hard too...hopefully.

Devonte Hynes
Queen & Slim (Original Motion Picture Score)

I've said it before about Devonte Hynes (Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion etc etc)  that he gets where water won't. Last year alone he released a Blood Orange 'mixtape', directed a video for Beck and got a place in a list of the 100 Most Creative People. Now he's onto soundtracks and his first stab is for this American crime drama that follows to African Americans after they go on the run after killing a cop.

Mark Korven
The Lighthouse

Sacred Bones presents the soundtrack to Robert Eggers’ new psychological horror movie 'The Lighthouse', composed and recorded by Mark Korven in league with the director himself. The pair teamed up again after their unnerving work on 2015’s 'The Witch', this time eschewing almost everything that didn’t have some kind of nautical feel or connection. Consequently, the score - prominently featuring horns, pipes, conch shells etc. - feels completely apt and thoroughly unique.

The soundtrack is a mix of score work, interludes and some actual normal songs featuring Thom singing. If you are a Radiohead fan you should be excited. John Carpenter & Alan Howarth
Prince Of Darkness

Often regarded as one of John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's greatest scores, 'Prince Of Darkness' is an essential soundtrack for all you lovers of spooky synth music and horror films. Packed with 80s synth-riffing and a bit of Carpenter's trademark DIY eeriness, the score perfectly complements the bizarre supernatural horror film.

The Silence Of The Lambs (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Howard Shore's score to the 1991 classic horror/thriller film 'The Silence of the Lambs' is the ideal soundtrack to enjoy some fava beans and a nice chianti to. The composer may be best-known for his stunning score to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but his work here is just as quality, perfectly complementing the suspenseful narrative and the tentative scenes which feature Dr. Lecter.

They are dystopian sounding projects featuring industrial drones and minimal synth compositions to delve into the murky worlds of sci-fi and neo-pornography.

Murcof
La Sangre Iluminada

Here's a vinyl re-press of Murcof's 2011 album La Sangre Iluminada. On this album the Mexican master of sound soundtracks the film of the same name which is based in the Mexican desert. Murcof provides the perfect soundtrack on a minimalist, dream-like work that showcases his ability to construct emotional neo-classical influenced electronica out of simple tools. Gorgeous.

Abel Korzeniowski

Alex Puddu
The Golden Age Of Danish Pornography

The sleeve art and concept may be a bit naughty but Alex Puddu's soundtracks are pretty legendary to anyone who enjoys a bit of evening funk, cocktail mood music and '70s breaks. Containing three tracks not on the original release, this is a re-press of Puddu's soundtracking for a series of four hardcore Danish pornography films. A dirty job but I suppose someone has to do it.

Sven Libaek
Solar Flares

A re-issue of a rarely seen record in the library recording genre, Sven Libaek’s Solar Flares album from 1974 featured the pioneering use of the Qaser synthesiser, a prototype for the legendary Fairlight CMI that revolutionised pop in the following decade. A brilliant companion to his Inner Space album, it also includes a number of highly regarded Australian session musicians laying down spacey grooves.

Lil Peep

Pierre Raph
Jeunes Filles Impudiques

Jeunes Filles Impudiques is a 1973 French erotic drama about hitchiking schoolgirls. The film isn’t great, but we're not here for that. Director Jean Rollin used the pseudonym of Miche Gentil in an attempt to disown it. The soundtrack, however, fuses French hard-bop with acid folk. It’s quite something and has been put out by Finders Keepers as a five-track EP.

Daughters of Darkness

Soundtrack to the cult Belgian horror film Daughters of Darkness. According to film critic Geoffrey O'Brien it's one of the classier lesbian vampire films, which is no doubt why Lil Wayne sampled its soundtrack on 'Outstanding'. The album itself is some of François De Roubaix's best work, appropriately seductive and intriguing.

Color Out of Space is a Nicholas Cage-fronted film where he finds himself battling an extra terrestrial organism. The main thing to note for readers of this site is its soundtrack which was written and performed by saxophone man and Norman Records favourite Colin Stetson. He approached the job by layering the sounds of coral reefs and processing the results. Interesting. Here is is on swish cosmic magenta wax.

Federico Fellini & Nino Rota
La Strada

The score to Frederico Fellini’s 1954 film La Strada was composed by Nino Rota. Its main theme recurs throughout the film being played by the characters, firstly on violin then on trumpet. Fellini initially wanted to use a soundtrack by Arcangelo Corelli which he played on tape whilst filming. Rota wasn’t particularly on board with this idea so wrote his own piece that was rhythmically identical to match the on screen movements. Rota’s final score included parts that were reminiscent to Larghetto from Dvořák's Opus 22 Serenade for Strings in E major.
