Can
Ege Bamyasi

'Ege Bamyasi' sees Can at their funkiest, grooviest, and most accessible. The fourth album from the krautrockers blends avant-funk with hypnotic psychedelic rock, prog complexity and smatterings of early electronic. Stephen Malkmus has covered it in full, Kanye West has plundered some samples from it, and Can even scored a Top Ten hit when 'Spoon' was used as a theme song in a German detective show. All we know is this is an essential album of outsider rock with a rather tasty looking cover.

Can
Flow Motion

The Can record most likely to be introduced on evening TV by Fern Cotton is Flow Motion, their eighth and most pop record, insofar as it made its way onto Top Of The Pops. Krautrock as a single-producing machine, the record still offers some cuts for the out crowd who want to hear Can do Can.

Can
Rite Time

Mute brought back more Can than any krautrock fan could possibly handle with the 'Can Vinyl Box', which featured seventeen Can records reissued in one bundle; now each record is stepping out on its own. 'Rite Time' is a very late entry in the Can catalogue, initially released in 1986 after 'Out of Reach' and 'Can', records that mostly did away with contributions from Holger Czukay. For 'Rite Time', the band were struck with nostalgia and reunited with original vocalist Malcolm Mooney. Consider it Can's high school reunion: it was released ten years after they recorded their self-titled farewell, 'Can'.

Can
Saw Delight

Mid-era Can was for dividing fans, breaking hearts and experimenting with lots of new ideas, and Saw Delight was no exception, bringing in two new contributors to the fold -- both ex-Traffic folks -- and taking on a general, ambiguous interest in world music a la Paul Simon in his Graceland era.

Loop
Wolf Flow

Wolf Flow compiles the three sessions that Loop recorded for the dearly beloved John Peel between 1987 and 1990. It functions almost as a best-of compilation of the band’s work, with tracks from all their albums as well as a rare cover of Suicide’s Rocket USA. Remastered and pressed to double vinyl by Reactor, with new artwork on the sleeve.

Om
Conference Of The Birds

Often regarded as Om's finest outing, 'The Conference of the Birds' is a cathartic exercise in minimalist stoner rock. Marrying dubby, minimalist basslines with hypnotic drumming and chanted vocals, Om's sound is both meditative and ritualistic. Om feature Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius from legendary stoner metal trio Sleep, and they occasionally delve into heavier moments with monolithic distorted bass riffs and heavy dynamics. Perfect for fans of left-field psych, drone rock and doom metal too.

Neutral Milk Hotel
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

The damn near-mythologised second album from Neutral Milk Hotel. Idiosyncratic stuff from 1998. Whether you’re die-hard for this one or rediscovering, let Jeff Mangum sing to you about semen-stained mountaintops and Jesus Christ between those stellar brass sections. Reissued on Domino on LP or CD.

Motorpsycho
Angels and Daemons at Play

A massive stack of Motorpsycho for you to dig into! Angels and Daemons at Play has been released as a double LP and a series of three EPs, plus a reissue of the late 90’s project that includes all the original material, plus three discs of rarities, B-sides and live recordings. Christ, that’s six CD’s-worth of wild Norwegianness!

Om
Variations on a Theme

Om's debut album 'Variations On A Theme' gave us our first taste of the two-piece's unique take on psychedelic rock. Whilst Matt Pike formed High On Fire from the ashes of Californian stoner metal outfit Sleep, their rhythm section chose to create heavy psych influenced by spiritual themes, complete with an emphasis on repetition. Those looking for far-out psych should look no further than this LP.

Fu Manchu
Daredevil

Beginning life in 1985 as a Black Flag-influenced, hardcore punk band called Virulence, Fu Manchu went on to become a household name in heavy, stoner rock, alongside contemporaries such as Kyuss, Sleep and Monster Magnet. Originally released on the legendary, now disbanded label Bongload, this is the second reissue for ‘Daredevil’ on the bands own record label At The Dojo.

Can
Out Of Reach

Mute brought back more Can than any krautrock fan could possibly handle with the 'Can Vinyl Box', which featured seventeen Can records reissued in one bundle; now each record is stepping out on its own. 1978's 'Out of Reach' was the tenth official record in Can's discography, doing without the band's ex-bassist and principle member Holger Czukay, who no longer played bass for Can at this time, instead performing only small electronic duties. The bandleader on 'Out of Reach' is Rosko Gee, who replaced Czukay on bass towards the end of Can's tenure as krautrock kings. It consists, for the most part, of instrumental compositions, with occasional vocals from Gee.

Love
Forever Changes (50th Anniversary Edition)

One of the greatest albums of all time reaches 50 but, with multiple re-issues down the line already, what will they squeeze out of it this time? Well you get mono and stereo mixes, an alternate mix, and a disc of outtakes - some of which are actually pretty darned good. Superb pastoral psychedelic pop that has influenced generations. Every home should have one in some format or other.

Neu!
Neu! 2

Neu! 2, the second LP from German Krautrock maestros, Neu!, is continually hailed as a classic of both the Krautrock genre and frankly, of the album format. The group honed the sound they had cultivated on their debut LP through 11-minute crunchers like 'Für Immer'. With the band having run out of recording money, the B-side is a few different manipulations of their previous single - a shoestring budget but turned out quite well.
