Soul Coughing Vinyl, CD & tapes from this artist at Norman Records
Ruby Vroom is the debut album by American alt. rockers Soul Coughing. It was originally released in 1994. The album mixed samples from sources as varied as Toots & The Maytals to The Andrews Sisters with guitar-based rock and jazz. The album’s sound was also influenced by a storeroom next to the recording studio which contained vintage synths and childrens plastic instruments which ended up on the record.
El Oso was the third and final album released by American alt. rockers Soul Coughing. It was originally released in 1998. The album is a departure in style from the previous two featuring a drum ‘n’ bass influence and less of the jazz sound they were known for. El Oso features the band’s biggest hit, Circles.
Soul Coughing/ Collapsed Lung
Irresistible Bliss is the second album by American alt. rockers Soul Coughing. Due to the band’s usual producer Tchad Blake being unavailable, the album was produced by David Kahne. The experimentation of debut album, Ruby Vroom was scrapped in favour of a tighter, more new wave sound. With the exception of front man Mike Doughty, the band weren’t happy with the production. Steve Fisk ended up producing two tracks and Tchad Blake returned for the mixing stage to prevent the band completely falling apart.
